Wonderful stay
We stayed at this hotel twice — before our safari and again after returning from it — which gave us the opportunity to experience two quite different parts of the property. When we first arrived, we were accommodated in one of the older buildings near the children’s playground. Unfortunately, it was quite noisy there, so our first impression was not as positive as we had hoped. However, when we returned from our safari, we were given a room in the new part of the hotel, and the experience was completely different. There was a lovely adults-only pool nearby, excellent bars and a new restaurant. We really enjoyed this area and found it very comfortable and relaxing. Overall, we have very positive memories of the hotel. The staff deserve a special mention — everyone was incredibly friendly, attentive and welcoming, and their excellent service contributed greatly to our experience. The food was delicious and varied. The only thing we missed was the opportunity to try more traditional Kenyan dishes. For example, we would have loved to try goat, which is an important part of traditional Kenyan cuisine. It would be great to see more authentic Kenyan dishes offered, perhaps as part of a themed dinner. Our experience of the beach was somewhat mixed. Since the beach is public, it is unfortunately difficult to simply leave the hotel and enjoy a peaceful walk along the ocean. You are frequently approached by local vendors and Maasai trying to sell something or engage you in conversation, which can become quite tiring when you simply want to relax. The strong tides also make swimming difficult at certain times of the day. We found the snorkeling in this area rather limited as well, especially compared with Zanzibar. Despite these points, they did not spoil our overall experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend this hotel to anyone planning to visit Kenya and Diani Beach, particularly those looking for a comfortable and relaxing place to stay before or after a safari. A big thank you to the entire team for making our stay so enjoyable!

Perfect holiday location
We stayed here for 2 weeks in September 2026, 4 days of which we were away on safari. The hotel is spotlessly clean, the buffet restaurant food is very good with lots of options. The beach is beautiful with white sand and the sea is warm to swim in. We visited the tangezi restaurant on 2 occasions as the food was amazing. All the staff we very genuinely happy and friendly and always around to help if needed. Special mention to Nelson at Tangezi and Remy at the Tapa tapa bar who kept our drinks topped up during our stay. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would love to return one day. Not so good
Extremely disappointing and deeply upsetting experience
What should have been a simple and pleasant visit for a drink and to see the baobab tree turned into one of the most uncomfortable experiences I have ever had at a hospitality establishment.
From the moment we arrived, the security guard, Stephen, was exceptionally rude and unwelcoming. We explained that we wanted to have a drink at the bar and see the baobab tree, yet we were quite literally told that we could not be there. He escorted us away from the area and, because he could not leave his post, radioed another security guard to escort us out.
Thankfully, the second guard was completely different. He was friendly, professional and actually took the time to listen to us. Once we explained what we wanted, he showed us where the baobab tree was and explained that we simply needed to speak to reception if we wanted to have a drink at the bar. This immediately made us realise that the entire situation had been caused by a complete lack of communication among the staff.
But unfortunately, the experience became even more humiliating.
After we had ordered our drinks, we discovered that Stephen had apparently whispered to the bartender not to serve us. Imagine being a paying visitor, standing at a hotel bar, having already ordered a drink, and being treated as though you were somehow not welcome there.
We were also deeply uncomfortable when another member of staff appeared to repeatedly walk past us, seemingly just to look at us. At that point, what should have been a relaxed drink had become an experience of feeling watched, unwelcome and completely out of place.
I have genuinely never been treated like this in a hotel or tourist establishment before. It was not simply rude. It was humiliating, hurtful and completely unnecessary.
What makes this even more disappointing is that, in the end, we discovered that visitors are in fact allowed to come and have a drink at the bar. So why were we treated the way we were?
If your staff are not properly briefed about your policies, that is a management issue. If visitors are welcome to use the bar, every member of staff should know that. If they are not, then the policy should be communicated clearly and professionally, rather than making paying visitors feel as though they are trespassing.
A hotel and tourist attraction should understand that hospitality begins with how people are welcomed. You cannot advertise or operate a tourist establishment and then make visitors feel unwanted when they arrive.
Please brief your staff properly. Make sure everyone is on the same page. Educate your security team about the attraction, your facilities and your visitor policies. Most importantly, remind them that visitors are not an inconvenience. They are guests and potential customers.
The second security guard showed exactly how this situation should have been handled: with courtesy, patience and basic human respect.
Unfortunately, the treatment we received before that completely overshadowed the visit.
This was an extremely disappointing and hurtful experience, and one that I sincerely hope management takes seriously.
Perfect Couples Getaway in Diani!
My partner and I stayed at Baobab Beach Resort & Spa in September 2026 and had an amazing time.
The location is unbeatable - right on Diani Beach with white sand and clear water. The resort is very green and peaceful, full of baobab trees and monkeys.
Our room was spacious, very clean, and had a beautiful garden view. The bed was comfortable and housekeeping was excellent every day.
What really stood out was the service. All the staff were so friendly, welcoming and professional - from reception to restaurant to the pool bar. The food was also great with a good variety every night.
The pools are huge and never crowded, and the spa was so relaxing. It's a great place to just switch off.
Value for money is excellent for what you get. If you are looking for a romantic, relaxing stay in Diani, I highly recommend Baobab. We will definitely come back!
