We ended up at Medina Palms unexpectedly, hoping to salvage the rest of our holiday - and it absolutely did that tenfold. We had the best time here and honestly couldn’t fault it.
From the moment we arrived, every member of staff was so welcoming, friendly and attentive. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble, and the service throughout our stay was fantastic.
The whole setting feels like an oasis. The grounds are beautiful, the beach is gorgeous, and the adults-only pool overlooking the beach is such a stunning and peaceful place to spend the day. Our room was spacious, beautifully presented and really comfortable. All areas of the hotel were clean, and staff were always ensuring the pool areas, rooms, lounge areas were spotless.
The food was consistently excellent too, I genuinely didn’t have a bad meal during our stay. We particularly loved having lunch at the beach bar, and the bartenders there were brilliant. The drinks were great, the atmosphere was lovely and the staff really made it.
Breakfast was a slightly smaller selection than you might find at some larger resorts, but everything was really good quality, with an egg station, waffle station, fresh fruit and fresh juices, pastries, hot food, so we were more than happy with it.
The only tiny thing I would personally add would be some light, quiet background music around the pool during the day, although I completely appreciate that a lot of people probably love how peaceful and relaxing it is.
The locations watamu is great, bars and restaurants such as crab shack & lichthaus are only a short car ride away. We absolutely loved Medina Palms and would return in a heartbeat. It completely transformed the rest of our holiday for us, and we’re so grateful to the team for making our stay so special.
We stayed in a lovely, spacious penthouse, excellent for relaxing and spending time together. The reception team was outstanding. Dinner could do with some improvement. There was too much seaweed to swim comfortably, perhaps seasonal, but the beach was excellent for walking, very safe and free from hawker harassment.
Medina Palms is a beautiful resort with a very well-kept and attractive setting. Our suite was enormous – almost big enough to get lost in – very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The pool area was lovely and we really enjoyed spending time there.
Unfortunately, during our stay there was a lot of seaweed on the beach, so swimming in the sea was not really possible. This was of course seasonal and not something the hotel could influence.
Breakfast offered a very good variety. We especially liked the different choices at the egg station, as well as the cakes, porridge, fresh fruit and many other options. Most of the staff around the resort were extremely friendly and helpful, although the service at breakfast (inside, not outside) felt a little less welcoming compared with the rest of the hotel.
The reception team was very helpful throughout our stay. We enjoyed a lovely spa treatment, and the hotel also organised a whale-watching excursion for us, which was arranged easily and without any complications.
One thing should be improved: the Wi-Fi was unfortunately unreliable and did not work well in all areas of the resort, including parts of our suite.
Overall, Medina Palms is a beautiful and relaxing place to stay in Watamu, with spacious accommodation, a wonderful pool area and very helpful staff.
Beautifully set hotel within a forest like feel, pools along the entire stretch down to the beach.
Rooms are clean and huge, the pent house had a well equipped kitchen, two lounges, dining area, two large ensuite bedrooms and a plunge pool rooftop. We had clean fresh towels daily and Phineas Pendo looked after our room well.
All rooms have views to the pool areas, convenient for those with children. Service by the pool was excellent, thanks to Alex and his hospitality skills.
Breakfast spread was one of the best we've had, with choices of pastries, fruits, cheeses, eggs, waffles, pancakes, sausages, and daily local options too like mahamri barazi and mandazis. Amandina restaurant had a large a la carte menu - seafood, pizzas, continental and veg options were excellent. Kiddy menu was great for light lunch time meals Service was decent, no long waits!
We travelled during low season and had the BNB option as there are many restaurants near by
100% recommend
Median Palms is one of those rare places that instantly slows your heartbeat the moment you arrive. Tucked into tranquil, beautifully curated surroundings, it feels like a private sanctuary where every detail has been designed to soothe, delight, and surprise.
We stayed in the penthouse, and honestly, it was out of this world. The private plunge pool, the secluded sunbathing areas, the sweeping views, every inch felt like luxury woven with calm. Waking up there each morning felt like stepping into a dream you don’t want to end.
The choice of pools across the property is fantastic, each offering its own mood and backdrop. And then there’s the beach bar, an absolute treat. Whether you’re grabbing a cold drink in the afternoon breeze or settling in for something delicious at sunset, it’s the kind of spot you remember long after you’ve left. The food throughout our stay was outstanding, full stop.
What truly elevates Median Palms, though, is the staff. Every single person we met was warm, attentive, and genuinely committed to making our stay perfect. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and their kindness added a layer of magic to the whole experience.
And of course, the beach. Just a few steps from the beach bar, the Indian Ocean opens up in front of you—breathtaking, serene, and impossibly
