Lushhh holiday and hotel

Lovely holiday. Food is good and a lot of selection and different types. Location is perfect just on the beach . All staff are so friendly and go out their way to help with anything. Entertainment staff are so good they need recognition on what they do! Will definitely be coming back .

Okay hotel, but definitely more 3-star than 4-star

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Okay hotel, but definitely more 3-star than 4-star

Overall, our stay at Dunes d’Or Ocean Club was okay. We didn’t have a terrible holiday by any means, but having stayed here, we genuinely don’t understand how the hotel has achieved a 4-star rating. For us, this is much more of a 3-star hotel.

Room & housekeeping – avoid Block 13 if you like an early night!

We stayed in Block 13, and one thing I would strongly recommend is requesting a different block if you tend to be back in your room earlier in the evening or have children who need to sleep.

The evening entertainment was incredibly loud from our room and continued until around midnight. We were generally back in our room by about 9pm and all three of us struggled to sleep because of the noise. It wasn’t just background music – it was unbelievably loud inside the room.

Obviously, we appreciate that a resort hotel is going to have evening entertainment, but guests should be aware of how much the location of their room can affect their stay. If you’re someone who wants to sleep before midnight, I would definitely try to avoid Block 13 if you can.

Housekeeping was also fairly basic. The cleaners came into our room every day and generally made the beds, emptied the rubbish and provided fresh towels. However, the actual cleaning seemed limited. We didn’t notice the floors being properly swept or cleaned during our stay and our bedding wasn’t changed.

On a couple of occasions we had to ask for towels and were told there weren’t any available and we’d have to wait until later.

As the week went on, more and more guests arrived and it really felt as though the hotel was becoming overwhelmed by the number of people staying there. Things that seemed manageable at the beginning of the week became noticeably more difficult as it got busier.

Pool & evening entertainment

There simply weren’t enough sunbeds around the pool for the number of guests, particularly as the hotel became busier.

The same applied in the evenings. There wasn’t enough outdoor seating for everyone wanting to watch the entertainment, so finding somewhere to sit could be difficult.

For a hotel of this size, it needs more facilities, seating and sunbeds to comfortably cope when it’s at or near capacity.

Food

The main all-inclusive restaurant was actually okay. We always managed to find something to eat and overall had no major complaints about the food there.

Unfortunately, our experience of the Italian à la carte restaurant, Bella Vista, was completely different and was easily the worst dining experience of our holiday.

We booked for 7pm and when we arrived the inside of the restaurant was completely empty. We asked to sit at a particular table but were told we couldn’t because it was a table for five and reserved for another booking.

Shortly afterwards, another family of three were seated at that exact table. When my husband questioned why three people were allowed to sit there when the three of us weren’t, we were told more guests would be joining them. Nobody else arrived during the time we were there.

I ordered a white wine which arrived a very dark yellow colour, had something visibly floating in it and smelt and tasted horrific. It was completely undrinkable.

Our starters then arrived literally within a minute or two of ordering and the mains followed incredibly quickly afterwards.

My risotto looked like rice pudding and the chicken was completely overcooked. My husband’s meal looked and tasted as though it had simply been reheated in a microwave, with the food stuck around the sides of the dish.

The most unbelievable part is that we were in the restaurant for approximately 15 minutes in total. In that time we’d sat down, ordered drinks and food, received our drinks, been served starters AND mains, questioned the seating situation and finally decided we’d had enough.

We told the waitress how disappointed we were and left without eating the mains. We genuinely wished we’d just stayed in the main buffet restaurant because the food there was significantly better.

Speaking to other guests during our stay, we also heard poor feedback about some of the other à la carte options, particularly the fish restaurant.

Location

The hotel itself is in a good location for Agadir and it’s easy enough to get out and explore.

However, Agadir as a destination wasn’t really for us. We personally found there wasn’t enough variety of bars, restaurants and things going on outside the hotel, particularly in the evenings. That’s obviously personal preference rather than the fault of the hotel, but it’s something we’d consider when choosing where to stay again.

Overall

There were positives. The main restaurant was decent, we could always find something to eat and the hotel’s location is good. We did enjoy our holiday overall.

However, the basic housekeeping, towel shortages, lack of sunbeds and evening seating, extremely loud entertainment affecting our room until midnight, the hotel appearing to struggle as it became busier and our dreadful experience at Bella Vista all brought the standard down.

For us, this simply wasn’t a 4-star experience. Three stars feels much more realistic.

For what we paid, we felt the hotel offered reasonable value for money. There were definitely areas that could be improved and we wouldn’t personally consider it a 4-star standard, but taking the price into account, we felt the overall value was fair. We had an all-inclusive stay, could always find something to eat in the main restaurant and the location was good. If you go with realistic expectations of a 3-star rather than a 4-star experience, the price was reasonable for what we received.

We wouldn’t say don’t stay here, but we’d recommend going with realistic expectations. Avoid Block 13 if you want to sleep before midnight, get to the pool early if you want a sunbed, and we’d choose the main buffet over the Italian à la carte every time.
