This historical complex is affords a sophisticated style and takes travellers back to its English colonial roots. The hotel lies just 12 km from the crafts market and approximately 15 km from the centre of Montego Bay where a diverse selection of shops are to be found. The airport is 8 km away.
The resort lies nestled amidst around 160 hectares of gardens, flowers and wetland reserve, beside an almost 2 km long stretch of private sandy beach. Offering superb services and a decidedly different take on luxury accommodation, guests will always find something to do here. The luxury establishment is always the first choice of celebrities, dignitaries and royalty. All guests to the hotel are treated equally however, with one exception: children, for whom there is a children's centre, a games room with supervised activities and babysitting. The business centre provides business visitors with high-speed access to the Internet (for an additional fee). A total of 398 rooms are available and standard facilities include a lobby with a 24-hour reception desk, a hire safe and a currency exchange desk. There is a selection of shops to browse and a hairdressing salon; fees apply for use of the laundry service and those arriving by car are offered car parking. Dining options include 6 different restaurants and bars: the Seagrape Terrace with delicious Jamaican cuisine is complimented by island and dance music. Just off the hotel's golf course is the Sugar Mill, which is open for dinner only and features specialties such as chicken-pineapple stew with turmeric-passion fruit sauce.
My husband and I had a glorious 4-night stay at Half Moon (Eclipse), and I cannot stop raving about the experience. The property is absolutely beautiful! It has that "old world charm" that you don't come across every day. Every space - from the lobby to the beach to the restaurants - simply takes your breath away. The rooms are spacious, modern, clean, and VERY luxurious - we slept well during our entire stay. But the icing on the cake is the staff! They were professional, attentive (but not over the top), and kind, and they took thoughtful steps each day to make our stay truly memorable.
I would recommend Half Moon to anyone, without hesitation. It has carved a special place in our hearts, and we plan to visit again and again for years to come!
We absolutely loved our stay at Eclipse at Half Moon. The location is perfect—so close to the airport, yet once you arrive, you feel completely removed from the hustle and bustle of Montego Bay.
From the moment we checked in, the service was exceptional. Stacy-Ann at check-in was outstanding and made us feel immediately welcome. We decided to upgrade to the Two-Bedroom Great House Ocean Suite, and let me just say… WOW. It was one of the most amazing hotel rooms we have ever stayed in.
Even though the suite is located directly above the main lobby, it feels completely private and peaceful. The view is spectacular—totally unobstructed, looking over the Great Lawn and straight out to the ocean. And the location within the resort could not be more convenient. Everything at Eclipse is literally just footsteps away.
We also loved having our golf cart and took so many bike rides around the beautiful Half Moon property. The resort is huge, but exploring it became part of the fun.
And then there was our butler, Dean Martin, who truly took our stay to another level. He was incredible. We had heard that Jamaican KFC was better than what we get back home, so Dean actually arranged to have KFC delivered to us—and yes, it really was better! But my favorite story: I casually asked Dean whether there might be a guitar somewhere on the property that I could borrow. Before I knew it, he had delivered a beautiful acoustic guitar to our suite for me to use for our entire stay. That is the kind of thoughtful, above-and-beyond service that you remember long after a vacation is over.
The coffee at Maakit was superb, and the Sunday breakfast buffet was fantastic. Throughout the resort, we found the staff warm, thoughtful, and genuinely interested in making sure we were enjoying ourselves.
One more recommendation: book the Rose Hall Haunted Tour one night! It was spooky, fun, and a great change of pace. If your kids enjoy haunted houses, they should have a blast with it.
Eclipse at Half Moon genuinely exceeded our expectations. Between the incredible suite, the ocean views, the beautiful property, and especially the wonderful people who took care of us, this was a truly memorable stay. We would absolutely return.
Ms. Shaan with custodial services is PHENOMENAL. She makes sure that every client is cared for like family.
I was genuinely surprised that virtually none of the reviews I read mentioned that a significant portion of Half Moon is currently under construction/renovation. This was also not mentioned to us at any point during the booking process, nor when I contacted the hotel directly before our stay. Given the extent of the closures, I think guests should be made aware of this before booking.
During our stay, one of the pools was closed, there was no pool bar, and one restaurant was closed. Breakfast options were also very limited, with essentially only one restaurant available. For a resort of Half Moon’s reputation and price point, the reduced facilities made a noticeable difference to the overall experience.
The remaining main pool was another disappointment. After a few days, it appeared that it had not been properly cleaned. There was a visible layer of sunscreen/oil on the surface, together with leaves and hair. At a luxury resort, particularly when guests are already concentrated around fewer available facilities, I would expect the main pool to be maintained to a much higher standard.
That said, I want to strongly emphasize how fantastic the staff were. The employees throughout the resort were genuinely excellent—friendly, attentive, professional and consistently helpful. They were by far the highlight of our stay and deserve a great deal of credit. Our criticism is absolutely not directed at them.
Half Moon is a beautiful property with wonderful staff, but in its current condition, I would consider it a four-star hotel at best, rather than the luxury five-star experience it presents itself as. Guests paying five-star prices should be clearly informed when a substantial part of the property and its facilities are unavailable.
Had we known the extent of the renovations and closures beforehand, it would certainly have factored into our decision to book.
Came here for our honeymoon, now back for our baby moon. The staff is really what makes half moon so special, our favorite place to vacation and when you meet other patrons most of the time they share the same sentiment. Even with the construction from the hurricane going on the resort is in full swing. Looking forward to returning in December when the founders cove is restored.
