Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Unfortunately, I wouldn’t return to this resort or recommend it based on our experience. The biggest issues for our group were the service and the food.
We found many of the staff surprisingly unfriendly despite always being polite, asking how they were and tipping. There were definitely exceptions, especially the entertainment team. Bubbles was incredibly sweet, and the team did a great job creating a fun, lively atmosphere around the pool.
The food was another major disappointment. There were plenty of options, but we struggled to find meals we enjoyed. The steak restaurant was particularly disappointing, with very tough and bland steak.
Our room was spacious and clean, but we had a concerning experience when a man entered our room while my friend and I were sleeping despite the Do Not Disturb sign being displayed. He stood there briefly, said something we couldn’t understand and left. Someone else in our group had a similar experience. The rooms were also quite noisy, and we were regularly woken by people in the halls and doors slamming.
The beach itself was okay, although there was quite a bit of seaweed and we saw a lot of jellyfish close to shore. We also noticed food and garbage left behind by guests that wasn’t always cleaned up promptly. There are many vendors along the beach. Most were friendly, but the constant sales approaches became frustrating when we simply wanted to walk or relax.
We weren’t impressed with the swim-up pool area either. It didn’t feel particularly clean, and on one occasion we found a bag containing what appeared to be drugs floating in one of the pools.
There were positives. The property has some nice areas, the rooms were spacious, and the entertainment team was excellent. The White Party was a lot of fun as well.
Unfortunately, the poor service and food outweighed the positives for us. Everyone in our group came away disappointed, and based on our experience, this isn’t a resort I would recommend. We also ran into a couple large spiders on our patio and the pool area.
Hotel staff were great and room was clean with great amenities. The issue my entire party got extreme food poisoning after the first night and needed to leave early due to dehydration and fever. We only ate and drank at the hotel restaurant and one member of our group is from Montego Bay so does not seem to be from a difference in diet. We had heard from one hotel employee that something seemed to be going around. We have been trying to get a refund for the days we did not use since we left early but are still waiting on a response one month after our trip.
My friend and I stayed at this hotel June 21-28. We had a great time! The service at the front desk went smoothly! The employee who checked us in (Devon) was very patient with us and helped us with our request.Thank you cuz it wasn't complicated at all, which we really appreciated! The food at buffet was good overall. However, we think it would be nice to offer almond, oat, or soy milk throughout the day, not just at breakfast cuz some people might want to have coffee in the afternoon and are lactose intolerant. Just saying… We preferred the food selection at the buffet overall . The staff was incredibly kind to us and provided wonderful customer service. A special thank to Avalee and Mikalie at the buffet, evening shift. Samantha and Trudy-Ann, breakfast and lunch shifts. We had a great time with y’all! The hotel was clean overall! The restroom too. It was really convenient to leave the hotel to go to the supermarket or even a fast-food restaurant, since they were literally right across the street. If you like going out at night, the clubs weren't too far either about a 15-minute taxi ride from the hotel. The entertainment was great! There was always something fun going on! The entertainment staff came over to see us a few time during the week and chat with us, which was really nice! A special thanks to Patrika, aka Riri she was a gem! The staff at the hotel store need to be more welcoming. We were there, and no one ever asked us if we needed help or if we were looking for anything. At least saying “hello” when a customer walks into a store it’s a must. The spa service was good! The women who worked there was really nice! We received a massage and it was good. The beach was great there were always chairs available, and it was clean. There wasn’t really any seaweed ; actually, none at all which was really awesome. The club at the hotel was always on point, the music and everything! All in all, we had a wonderful vacation at this hotel! We’ll definitely be back!
I had a horrible experience. I also shared the picture of the entertainment coordinator that insulted me for me apparent reason in the pictures submitted. She is the one leaning over. I was seated in the morning enjoying, the little entertainment show that was highlighting Jamaican Creole and then taking part in the Q&A. Once the Q&A was completed or close to be completed, a female member of the entertainment team, as shown in the picture came up to me, and then pointed out that my shirt had holes in it. She then called her colleagues and in a loud voice began to make fun of me, to the point other guests were looking and laughing at me also.
I was so embarrassed and emotionally disturbed as to why she would pick me out and embarrassed me in such a way.
One point I had to go to the bathroom to wipe away the tears. The said shirt is very sacred to me as it was a gift from someone who has now passed, and who meant tht world to me.
For the day I could barely eat, nor drink or do anything, as I sat contemplating why would she do me like that in front of her coworkers and guest.
As I write this, I will be reaching out to your corporate office, because I do believe that I should be reimbursed or at best be given a complimentary pass due to the grave of the issue caused by your staff.
Where to start. Overall it was good but there are some little things that need to be solved I think. Firstly the bad.
Pools not cleaned regularly enough and when they are they are not cleaned thoroughly. Pool areas aren’t cleaned on the evenings once the pools have been closed so some days there was food and drinks etc still around. There is a taxi rank in the main lobby that is not associated with RIU but every time you walk past it is like you are being hounded to take trips with them. No robes in our room although when we asked for some they did deliver. Security and life guards aren’t very approachable and could do with some people skills trained out to them.
The good.
Food great, buffet, sofies, the golden dragon and steak house are all brilliant at any time of the day.
Bar staff. Brilliant. Rohan and Theo especially were a breath of fresh air.
Entertainment staff. These guys make this hotel. They cannot do enough for you and honestly without them this hotel would be lost. Whatever they are paid, pay them more. Dimario was amazing. So welcoming and took us over the road to Whitter village on his break to show us around which he didn’t have to do. Charlotte, Mika and Alex and Wayne are also very highly rated and none of these guys get enough credit.
Would go again.
