Hotel Not as advertised and very poorly maintained

We chose this adults-only resort in St Lucia based on the google photos, which showed beautiful white cabanas with curtains and lovely furnishings. Unfortunately the reality was very different.

The property: The cabanas were actually faded blue, with green moss growing on the wood and roof. They looked tatty and nothing like the 4-year-old photos on the website. The room we stayed in was very dated with broken window latches, and some windows wouldn’t open at all. Maintenance was poor overall. When it rained, the guttering next to the balcony was broken so water poured heavily onto a zinc roof below and was extremely noisy. We were also kept awake at night by 5 dogs barking at a private residence next door. (not their fault I know but nonetheless it was very uncomfortable).

Food & Service: Dinner, lunch and breakfast were all 3-course set menus. The dining room staff including the Manager were lovely very courteous and welcoming. However service was extremely slow — we often waited up to 45 minutes for food, and orders were sometimes wrong. A buffet would have been much better.

The pool bar was a major issue. One staff member in particular, Rose, was very hostile, loud and rude to guests when taking orders. After that we felt uncomfortable going to the pool bar at all especially when she was serving. This impacted the remaining time of our stay which was around 5 days.

Atmosphere & Entertainment: There was zero entertainment. Just background music in the restaurant and by the pool. In the evenings there was nothing to do except go back to your room. It felt very dead and not at all like a holiday atmosphere for adults looking to relax and have some fun. Hotel is more suited for people who just want a quiet holiday.

Overall: This was not the resort advertised online. The photos need updating as they do not reflect the current condition. Other recent reviews mention the same issues with maintenance, dogs, and lack of entertainment, so it wasn’t just us. For the price we paid we expected much more. I would not return.

Photos and social media The Instagram and Facebook pages are old from 2023, photos were taken 4 years ago they need to be updated as the hotel currently did not reflect its current condition. We will not be returning.

Amazing Staff, lovely hotel and great location

We visited the hotel for 2 weeks on the 20th July. We arrived at tea time and were greeted with a glass of bubbly at reception. It was a very quick process checking in and they gave us a leaflet with all info about meals etc which was very useful. We stayed on the top floor - there isn’t a lift / elevator in the hotel so bear this in mind when choosing rooms if you have mobility issues. The staff carried our (very heavy) bags up to our room and when we checked out they did the same for us. The room had a large balcony with a table and chairs - a kettle for tea/coffee which were replenished daily - a fridge - hairdryer - iron - ironing board - shower gel, body lotion, shampoo, conditioner also replenished daily - TV with access to Netflix etc (using your own account). Plug sockets are the British 3 pin and they also had some 2 pin plugs too (think they are the same as in the USA). We were very happy with the room.

Meals were outstanding - and all meals are table service. We didn’t see any changes to the breakfast menu during our stay but lunch and dinner were changed daily. Staff in the restaurant work very hard and provide an excellent service. Breakfast is served until 10:00am, lunch starts at 12:00pm and dinner starts at 6:30pm. There’s also afternoon tea style snacks available at the lobby bar at around 4pm (can’t quite remember the exact time). We never had a bad meal at Soco House and it was much better having table service rather than a standard all inclusive buffet. If you want to eat your meal around the pool or in your room you have the option to do that - I tended to have lunch sat at the pool. Just go to the restaurant and let them know and they will sort it.

There’s many drinks available to choose from as part of the all inclusive. They have a cocktail menu behind the bar but you can request others and they will make them. Big shout out to Rose and Gavin - and everyone else!

The beach is a short walk away. Out the hotel, turn left until you reach the police station. You can’t miss it! Before you leave at reception you can request a cool box - you can take 6 bottles (that’s all that will fit) and it includes bottles of Piton beer, water or soda. You can also get towels for the pool / beach at reception that can be exchanged daily. At the beach turn left and walk towards the red umbrellas! There’s usually someone there to greet you - they spot the blue hotel towels / cool box and will get you a sun-bed and an umbrella.

For any tours you need to speak to “The One”. He will usually be around the Soco House area on the beach. We did the Friday Street Party with him (this is a definite must do during your stay). Think it was around $25 USD and we got the boat outside the hotel straight to the party - this saved driving all the way around. We also did the catamaran cruise down to the south of the island through “The One”. I’d 100% recommend doing this tour as you manage to see a lot in one day. Travelling around St Lucia isn’t that easy! The catamaran cruise was all inclusive, they provided lots of drinks and a lovely lunch. You visit the famous waterfall, a lovely beach, the mud bath, Marigot Bay and a few other sites. We loved both trips so much that we asked “The One” to organise us a bespoke trip! We went to see traditional St Lucia to try some rum! He picked us up and took us to small villages in the mountains to different bars - all places the locals go so we got to see a different side to the country which we loved. Also had some lunch which was amazing and traditional St Lucian food. We loved this tour and it was probably one of our highlights.

Additionally we also did a boat trip to Pigeon Island with “Young Lion”. He has a boat and took us there for around $25USD each - again it’s a much shorter route going by boat rather than the road. We also went to Marie’s Fish Shack with him and we had amazing food there! Definitely recommend a visit!

Overall, we definitely recommend staying at Soco House - it was perfect for us and the food, drinks, staff were all amazing! Can’t recommend the amazing staff more for making our stay there so special and perfect. We hope to be back!!

Fiancé Birthday

I had the pleasure of staying here for my fiancé birthday for 5 nights. I loved the ambiance everything is all inclusive food and drinks their completely sold out so you know what that means. Please bring cash I had a hard time getting money. I wish they leave a tip QR code for the staff so they can be tipped properly. I recommend the room should have an xtra chair inside near the window the bed should definitely have a mattress protector on it to avoid travel bugs. I saw none but never to safe. I’ll bring my own next time. Other than that small issue who that can be fixed incredibly fast. Everything was delightful. I had a blast and the staff was very helpful Alex and rose makes the best drinks. Please everyone tip in your currency so they can make as much money as possible. possibly $20 USD for dinner or more breakfast $10 every day for them it means a lot. The beach is 3 minute walk right before police station. The bank is 8 minute walk on the right side of the street making a left outside of the hotel. The street food is delicious. And I also went to a Korean BBQ place right next the hotel 3 minute walk. I promise so close. I recommend I would definitely visit again.

Fantastic people and hotel

We satyed at the Soco House from the end of June staying 10 nights. Location is really good, close to the beach, town and bars. This hotel is quaint and quiet with a personal touch. The staff are very friendly and really cant do enough for you. All inclusive package with table service, much better than having to queue and choose your food that has been messed with, a resturant experience at every meal time. We read reviews leading up to our holiday and begun to have doubts given the ratings. What can I say, the hotel was spotless, cleaned every day, gardens well kept and very helpful happy staff who really couldn't do enough for you. They were proud to work there. I arrived with a sports injury that made it difficult for me to walk. We had a top floor room which was proving awkward to access. The manager Vladimir was extremley helpful finding us a room on the groundfloor. Also we were away during the world cup and as a personal touch he took time out of his day to drive us to town so we could watch the games. Also another manager Eloise also couldn't do enough for guests, very bubbly, friendly and genuinely interested in the guests. Monday evening you are invited to meet the managers for prosecco and cocktails. They also have a pianist bringing a great atomospere which adds a lovely touch to your experience. We will definatley be returning. A personal thank you from Rich and Tash to all staff at Soco House, thank you for making us feel welcome, making our holiday memories special. Arrived as customers left as friends 🙏

Outdated, worn out and loud after hours

My husband and I recently stayed at Soco House for 3 nights. We enjoyed the location being close to the beautiful Rodney Bay. We could walk there in less than 5 minutes. The beach and bay area is beautiful. Be prepared to be approached by several people trying to sell you something. This is no fault of the resort, though. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the staff was very kind. We had delicious smoothies everyday. As others have noted, do not try to rush your meals because the food often takes time to make it to your table. Give yourself plenty of time to eat, especially if you have excursions planned. The things that would keep me from coming back is the noise and loud music that lasted late into the night. The first night we stayed, there was an obnoxiously loud party going on across the bay, and the music carried straight into our room. The rooms had no sound proofing on either side, and we heard everything from everywhere. We are not night owls, so the lack of quality sleep really bothered us. I even tried earplugs, which didn't help much. The 3rd night, there was loud music and loud people at the pool area which is inescapable because all rooms face the pool. The other issue I have with this place is that it's extremely run down. They truly need to put some money into this resort and bring it back to life. You could see where mold had been painted over. The furniture and decorations were dingy. The shower spills out allover the bathroom because there is only a partition of glass separating it from the rest of the bathroom. Everything about this resort felt worn out. We ended up going to the Zoetry Marigot Bay after Soco House and the quality and class of it far surpassed that of Soco House. If you like to party and don't mind not getting quality sleep, then Soco House will be perfect for you. If you appreciate a well-maintained resort with class and tranquility, then I'd recommend skipping the Soco House.
