Valamar Argosy - Great Hotel in Dubrovnik
Great location near the center of Dubrovnik and The Old Town. Fantastic view over the bay leading into the Dubrovnik Cruise ship harbor. Great 4* Hotel within the Valam Hotel Group, with a fantastic group of staff in every department. Great restaurants and pool area. We will be back soon again ( this was our 4th visit😀👍) Br Goran and Eva Loov ( Sweden)
A lovely first holiday in Croatia
We have just returned from our first trip to Croatia, and stayed at the Valamar Argosy Hotel in Babin Kuk.
Firstly the Good bits (pretty much everything actually) The hotel is situated in Babin Kuk in a nice area and has all the facilities that you’d expect from a 4* hotel. It’s just a short walk down to a couple of nice local beaches, and a 15 to 20 minute bus ride to the Old Town. Bus tickets in the hotel shop are cheaper too. Our room was very nice indeed, it was kept clean and had a really nice modern en-suite. The beds are super comfortable, we slept so well. You can select how often you’d like your room to be cleaned. The communal areas like the lobby bar and its outside area, dining room and poolside are of a very nice standard. There are 2 large Infiniti pools outside that are lovely, and an indoor pool too. We went half board, which is really worth the extra money. The food is superb and you can have whatever you’d like and as much as you like. There’s lots of choice and we found it all to be delicious. Think we both might have gained a few pounds ! You can dine inside or outside as you wish, but we ate outside every evening as you can watch the sunset which is spectacular ! The first time that you see it is definitely a ‘Wow’ moment ! The outdoor pool area is large so you’ll get a (free) sun bed and towels no problem, and the views from here are stunning. My wife had a massage at the Spa and said it was excellent, and it was no more expensive than you’d pay in the UK. Drinks are reasonably priced, similar to UK hotel prices, as is lunchtime food from the Olivia Grill.
Now for constructive comments. You’ll see that I rated the hotel as 5 stars ‘Excellent’ so take these comments in the right context, i.e. minor opportunities for improvement. Some of the corridor areas and the hotels outside walls could do with some attention / painting. It’s not horrible, just needs a little love. Most of the staff are nice and friendly. In particular 2 that stood out were Jovana V and Marijana from the restaurant. They were both so happy, welcoming and engaging. There were however just a couple that are not so engaging, in fact rather curt, and bordering on ‘rude’ at times. It’s a shame because most of the staff were lovely.
Overall a fantastic holiday. Would I recommend the Valamar Argosy ? Yes, 100%, without hesitation.

Overall a good hotel.
We had a great week at this hotel. We were so pleased with the location of our room. We had asked for a quiet location which we were given and the bathrobes we had requested were in our room. The views from the pool are stunning and we really enjoyed our breakfast each morning. We ate 3 times in the Oliva restaurant and thought the food and service were excellent and good value. The portions are very generous. The staff at this hotel are great and a special mention to Kristijan in the Oliva restaurant. He looked after us so well, always helpful and smiley even though the restaurant was very busy at times.
There were a couple of things that could be improved at this hotel.
Firstly the pillows provided were too soft and saggy and were not good to sleep on.
The air conditioning in our room was controlled by reception and we did have to ask for it to be made cooler for us a few times. It was a particularly hot week when we were staying and the room was much too uncomfortable for us at the set temperature. They were usually able to make our room cooler but this is quite annoying to keep having to ask. We’ve never had to do this at a 4* hotel before.
The room cleaners were lovely but often didn’t replace items such as cups and tea bags and milk. It was very obvious that they all work hard but there were not enough of them to do their job. Reception did always get these items replenished on request but again we shouldn’t really have to keep asking.
The pools are beautiful with plenty of loungers. However, there was a real shortage of umbrellas to provide shade. Poolside had no natural shade and it was very hot and more of these need to be available. There were piles of umbrella bases nearby but no umbrellas to go in them. There was shade under the trees but these spaces are quickly taken by guests.
We were only allowed one pool towel each per day which really surprised us. We didn’t enjoy sitting on a wet towel after a swim. We’ve never had this at a 4* hotel before.
Overall this is a very good hotel and we would stay here again as the location is lovely and the staff are great.
Lovely holiday
We have had a brilliant 10 nights here. The Old Town is only around 10-15 mins away and the location of the hotel is brilliant. The service was excellent and a huge shout out to Filip G in the lobby bar who never let our glasses run dry - one of the best bartenders about!
Thoroughly recommend staying
Fantastic hotel. Pools are a little cold (it is September). The food is incredible, really, really good. Great location if you want away from hussle and crowds of old town and want tranquility (bus stop is outside the hotel and only 20 mins to old town, it’s a breeze). Restaurant staff are the friendliest by a mile, especially the chefs. One male bar staff member is a right grumpy sod, we dread getting served by him. Courtyard area is a great and chilled vibe. Been great live music every night. Rooms are good, pillows etc all comfy. Thoroughly recommend staying. Beach on the doorstep as is a beach club, shops and bars.
