Avlida Hotel

I rarely write reviews but felt I must in this case. This hotel is awful if you are looking for any food that is edible. Do not be fooled by pictures or people writing anything different. The hotel itself is clean and functional. Sometimes you get your room cleaned, other days not! Sometimes you will get towels in your rooms, other days you have to go and ask for them! Reception is ad-hoc, sometimes a person is helpful, another time very rude. The food is awful, if people write a review that says otherwise then I'm not sure what they eat at home. Breakfast is passable, if you want basic choice then you will get cereal, toast, cold meats. Greasy bacon, burnt hard sausage, adequate scrambled eggs, fruit. It's fine if you want no frills. Lunch - basic food served by pool. Dinner - This is where everything becomes wrong on every level. Left over food from breakfast and lunch are incorporated into dishes such as Fried bacon and sausage parcels, fish that is unrecognisable and full of bones, tinned peas and carrots mixed, frozen sprouts that are so hard you can't put a fork into them, fried cheese sandwiches left over from snack time, fish fingers that have never seen fish. I honestly have never seen anything like this other than in a school canteen. Snack consist of a few packeted sandwiches, fruit, chicken nuggets. Everything else you have to pay for, not included on all-inclusive. This hotel is a very basic 3 star at best. We ate out 6 nights out of 10 due to the quality and awful choice in hotel. We discussed with management who basically are not bothered. We had the army staying there, school parties, an array of nuns on a retreat. All of whom were fine but it is very obvious the hotel is a 'drop in' for anyone and everything. Every person we spoke to was disappointed. The head barman George asks all the time for you to write good reviews. He's a nice enough guy but heavily reliant on people saying nice things! Entertainment team consist of young people barely out of school. The head guy is nice, he works hard with poor facilities. Bingo most nights costing €5 a strip. Acts that try hard but obviously poor quality due to lack of investment from hotel. Drinks are poor but if you're not bothered by weak vodka, watery beer and cocktails that are bright blue or red with little alcohol then they're fine. Please don't come here expecting anywhere close to a 4 star setting. The website does no way reflect this hotel. It's a shame but it was just awful!

Whole staff in the main bar is great, all my group love these guys
