Awful condition, mould, unreliable door and a very disappointing experience — we left within 30 minutes

I would strongly recommend thinking twice before booking this hotel.

We arrived on 5 September 2026 and, after checking into our room, were extremely shocked by its condition. We had paid the full remaining balance on arrival before having the opportunity to properly inspect the accommodation.

Within approximately 30 minutes, we reported our concerns to reception and ultimately decided that the room was simply not somewhere we were prepared to stay.

The most serious issues we found were:

• Extensive visible mould on the bathroom ceiling directly above the shower. This was not a tiny mark or minor staining — there was a substantial area of visible mould. As someone with respiratory health problems, I was particularly concerned about staying in a room in this condition.

• A problem with the entrance door and lock. The normal room key would not open the door. We were given another metal key by reception, which was also temperamental and unreliable. Whatever the hotel’s interpretation of this key, the simple fact is that we could not reliably access our room using the key we had originally been given.

• Very poor condition of the door frames and woodwork, including deterioration, gaps, damaged surfaces and what appeared to be poor-quality repairs.

• An electrical switch plate that appeared poorly secured, with only one screw holding it to the wall and unfinished/open-looking cable containment around it.

• Severe corrosion and rust on the external air-conditioning unit and its supporting bracket, together with a very dated and poorly maintained internal unit.

Overall, the room looked nothing like the standard we expected from the photographs used to advertise the accommodation. This was not about expecting a luxury hotel or complaining about outdated décor. It was about the basic condition, cleanliness, maintenance and our ability to feel comfortable and safe staying there.

We gave the hotel an opportunity to resolve the situation. We were told another room could be offered the following day, along with complimentary breakfast. For us, that was not an acceptable solution. We were not prepared to spend the first night in a room with visible mould and an unreliable entrance door, and there was no guarantee that the replacement room would be in an acceptable condition.

We therefore returned the keys and left with all of our luggage without staying overnight.

What happened afterwards made the experience even more disappointing.

The hotel initially offered a 50% refund, which we did not agree to as a full and final settlement. We subsequently received a refund covering the accommodation cost, but the original £88.60 deposit has still not been refunded.

I also found the hotel’s subsequent response to our complaint extremely disappointing and, frankly, unnecessarily confrontational. Rather than simply acknowledging why a guest would be unhappy after finding extensive mould and significant maintenance issues, the response focused heavily on accusing us of having an “intense and threatening tone”, questioning our intentions and criticising us for recording the conversation.

The response also attempted to minimise the photographs we took, referring to a door-frame scratch as being only 2cm and suggesting that the photographs gave the impression that it was much larger. That completely misses the point. Our complaint was not based on one 2cm scratch. It was based on the overall condition of the room, including the visible mould, door/lock problem, deteriorated woodwork, electrical fitting and heavily corroded air-conditioning equipment.

We have photographs of the condition of the room and records of the payments and correspondence.

We were forced to find alternative accommodation at very short notice, costing us considerably more. We did not leave because we simply “didn’t like the room”. We left because, having seen the actual condition of the accommodation, we did not consider it acceptable to stay there.

To be clear, I am not writing this review because I expected a perfect or luxurious hotel. I am writing it because I believe guests should know what they may encounter before booking.

Visible mould above the shower, unreliable access to the room, poor maintenance, corroded external equipment and a general standard of upkeep that we found unacceptable.

For us, the experience was bad enough that we left after approximately 30 minutes and did not spend a single night there.

I would not stay here again and, based on our experience, I cannot recommend it.

The hotel is lovely and really well located. The rooms have everything you need, are spacious, spotless- have lovely extras like robes and slippers. A great pool. Ian at reception checked us in, showed us to our room and could not have been more professional or more lovely. Don’t hesitate to book!

Rooms very clean and a nice comfortable bed. Location is excellent just a minute walk from the bus stop and close to all the beach’s and Watersports. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed which is just what we wanted. Good value for money . Will definitely be returning.
