Elea Beach

We met at this hotel 20 years ago so thought it would be nice to return. Parts of the hotel have been updated since our last visit and the room was a decent size, we chose a balcony with a sea view which was very nice. We stayed half board as they don’t offer B&B which we prefer. Breakfast and dinner were ok but never hot, all meals were luke warm which became tiresome. They say breakfast starts at 6 but we tried for an early breakfast one day as we were going on a full day trip and there wasn’t much on offer, some cereal but I had to ask for milk. The cheese and hams were brought out as 6.45 am, not good when we had to set off at 7. The beach is very clean as is the sea and it’s very shallow for a long way out which is ideal for families. There is a small shop within the hotel and the man serving is very friendly as are the men in the bar outside and the entertainment man. You can buy return bus tickets to Corfu Town in the hotel shop for €1.80 per person one way, on the bus it’s €2.50. Now the not so good points. The hotel is a five minute walk uphill from the road where the main bus stop is. There’s not much in Dassia and it was a lot scruffier than I remember, Restaurants are quite a walk away especially in the heat. There is a mini supermarket nearby but frankly Mr & Mrs Glum are incredibly miserable, they never spoke to us, so although the hotel shop was a little more expensive, €1 for 1L of water compared to 50 cents in the shop outside, we decided to give our money to the man who gave us a smile, hello, please, thank you. They have a problem with the air conditioning and not just in our room. It didn’t work when we arrived and we had to ask reception to manually turn it on which continued for 4 or 5 days until it was fixed. On the third day the Receptionist asked if we really needed it on. It was 35 degrees (it’s 14 degrees at home) so yes we needed it. The bathroom had a very unpleasant sewage smell all week and the shower tray wasn’t very clean. The hotel left a bottle of wine and fruit for our anniversary which was a nice gesture but the used wine glasses and coffee cups were never replenished and you have to ask reception for milk after the first day. Twice the cleaner left our patio door open and on the second occasion she also left the mosquito screen open, we were on the first floor so not good from a security point of view plus it meant the room was hot when we returned. One day when we returned, the cleaner had removed our only toilet roll. When we complained, the following day she left 4?! Reception didn’t tell us when we arrived that we could pay a returnable €10 for a safe key or that the sunbeds on the beach were free or that we could have beach towels. I’m sad to say the staff on Reception and in the Restaurant weren’t particularly friendly or helpful, nobody smiled, in fact we were never approached in the Restaurant. They seem to have lost their philoxenia which was very disappointing. We enjoyed our holiday but didn’t feel welcome or treated like returning guests which was a shame and we wished we’d booked elsewhere and just visited for a day.

We had the most amazing week at this hotel. Beautiful setting and the staff were so nice and really helpful. A special shout out to Georgia who was amazing!

Great hotel! Beach front access with 2 different pools and plenty of chairs. Room was very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was decent, large buffet with plenty of choices. Restaurant, “A La Carte” was excellent and George made every visit there very enjoyable! He was very nice and attentive and we never had a bad meal. Would definitely recommend and would come back!
