Great Hotel great Vibe..
We’ve just returned from a fantastic stay at Cooks Club Corfu and overall had a really enjoyable time. The hotel is spotless, has a really cool, modern vibe and there’s a great atmosphere both around the pool during the day and in the evenings. The DJs and live music added to the whole experience without being too much.
We really liked the different approach to all-inclusive dining. Rather than the usual huge buffet where you pile your plate up with everything in sight, there’s a smaller selection and you order from the menu with waiter/waitress service. You can order as much or as little as you like, and we actually thought this worked really well. It meant you could properly sit down and enjoy the whole meal together rather than constantly getting up and down.
The food in the main buffet restaurant was good, and of the included restaurants, our favourite was definitely the Smokehouse Grill around the chill pool. Great atmosphere, decent steak and a really nice setting. We were less impressed with the restaurant by the main pool.
One slight disappointment was the all-inclusive drinks package. We felt the cocktail selection was quite restricted, with additional charges for some fairly standard cocktails such as Mojitos and Pornstar Martinis. We’d expect these to be included in an all-inclusive package.
Most of the staff were excellent and the housekeeping was particularly good. A special mention has to go to Kaziani in the main lobby bar, who was brilliant throughout our stay. Great cocktails, always happy to help and with a fantastic personality — she really made an impression on us.
There were just two negatives for us. We found the staff at the main pool bar quite unhelpful and, unfortunately, they often came across as though they didn’t really want to be there. The other issue was the large number of wasps around the main pool and bar area, which did take the edge off relaxing there and is something we think the hotel should look at.
Apart from those points, we had a brilliant stay. Cooks Club is a super-cool hotel with a great atmosphere, good food, fantastic entertainment.
Lovely Stay but not 5* experience
We’ve had a really lovely stay at Cooks Club Corfu and, overall, it’s been a very enjoyable experience.
The positives: Everyone we’ve come across has been really friendly, welcoming and helpful. The whole hotel is very clean and well looked after, which definitely adds to the overall experience. The food has been lovely, with plenty of choice, and we’ve never struggled to find a sunbed, which is a big plus. The evening entertainment has also been a real highlight. There’s been a good atmosphere in the evenings and the entertainment has been genuinely enjoyable.
The negatives: The biggest downside for us has been the sunbeds. They are quite uncomfortable, especially if you’re spending a good part of the day around the pool. The rental towels also feel quite tired and worn, with some having holes in them. We would expect better-quality towels at a 5-star all-inclusive hotel. We also feel that the drinks offering could be improved. There isn’t a huge selection included, and you have to pay extra for cocktails and premium drinks. Given that this is advertised as a 5-star all-inclusive plus experience, we didn’t feel that having to pay extra for a wider range of drinks was particularly good value. Another difference we noticed is that there isn’t really table or poolside service for drinks and food. You have to go to the bar yourself to order, rather than having staff come around and take your order. This isn’t necessarily a major issue, but it would make the experience feel more premium if there were some level of table or poolside service.
Overall, we’ve enjoyed our stay and there are definitely a lot of positives. The friendly staff, cleanliness, food and evening entertainment have all made for a great holiday. However, there are a few areas where we feel the hotel could improve, particularly when considering the 5-star all-inclusive plus price and experience. I would say this is more of a 4 star hotel rather than 5 star.
Lovely hotel, just missing 5* edge
The hotel itself is beautiful, with clean, modern rooms. We were lucky enough to stay in a swim-up room, which was cleaned brilliantly every day, with fresh water provided daily. The room also had facilities for making hot drinks and a mini fridge. The cleaners are on it, always cleaning, tidying and making the room fresh daily.
The location is probably the biggest consideration. If you’re looking for the idyllic side of Greece with beautiful beaches right on your doorstep, you may want to rethink this hotel. We knew beforehand that it wasn’t a picture-perfect location, so this didn’t come as a surprise. There is a bus stop directly outside the hotel, which makes getting to Corfu Old Town easy and inexpensive, although the buses can become extremely crowded to the point where it felt concerning at times. We got a taxi back due to this for €35, traffic can be wild through Corfu Old Town and the roads leading to the hotel.
This was our first all-inclusive where pool service wasn’t provided, so you have to go up to the bar every time you want a drink. At busy times, queues can form. We also found that some of the staff weren’t particularly welcoming or friendly, although there were a few exceptions. One lovely gentleman, in particular, couldn’t do enough for us when we arrived, helping with our luggage and being such a friendly face.
Sun loungers were always available, as long as you weren’t too bothered about getting a front-row spot or one that stayed in the sun all day. We weren’t particularly phased by this, so we always managed to find somewhere. However, as other reviews mention, the sunbeds are some of the most uncomfortable I’ve ever experienced! We ended up doubling up on towels to make them a little more bearable.
Both à la carte restaurants were lovely. We followed the advice from other reviews and booked later times to avoid the wasps, which definitely helped. The Smokehouse at the top pool had brilliant portion sizes and a really picturesque, outdoor-kitchen-style atmosphere. At both restaurants, you can choose certain items from the more varied menus and receive 30% off, or you can stick to the all-inclusive menu, which includes a starter, main and dessert. We also had a brilliant live singer performing while we were at the lower pool restaurant, which really added to the experience.
Breakfast at the buffet was lovely, with the omelette station being a particular highlight. However, we felt that the food offering became less impressive throughout the day. We loved the salad bar at lunchtime, but by dinner this seemed to disappear, leaving mainly the bread table alongside the app-based options. The app can feel quite limiting and repetitive, and the food was a little hit or miss.
The DJ around the pool was a nice touch, and the spa staff were always friendly, welcoming and inviting.
Overall, I think the hotel just misses the five-star edge. It’s a lovely, modern and very clean hotel, but for us it felt closer to a four-star experience. For a true five-star stay, we would expect things such as pool service, a less canteen-style approach to food, pool towels that aren’t worn or occasionally ripped, more comfortable sunbeds, and those extra little amenities that create a genuinely luxurious feel.
That said, our swim-up room really made the trip for us. We had the sun on our swim-up pool all afternoon, meaning we could relax around the main pool in the morning and then enjoy our own pool in the afternoon. The only downside was having to go back and forth for drinks, unless you wanted to pay the additional €15 add-on fee, plus the cost of room service.
Overall, we had a lovely holiday and the hotel has plenty going for it, but I think expectations should be set closer to a very good four-star experience rather than a true five-star luxury resort.
Disappointing
Nice hotel with great pool bar. Staff are wonderful. Eat a good lunch because the main dining room is awful. Billed as street food but lacks personal touch as everything is ordered through an app and if I got it on the street I'd throw it in the gutter.
