Cooks Club Hersonissos Crete

First off, I’ll say it’s a very clean and neat hotel and in a great location. The food was very good- both breakfast that’s included and also lunch that we paid for. Staff at the bar were lovely too!

My biggest surprise that I don’t feel was good is that there are NO PARASOLS around the pool. There is no shade there. So if you’re a mixed group of sunworshippers and some not. You’ll have a problem. The only parasols are over on the grassed area in the corner. A lot of burnt folks!

But here’s where it turns sour- the way the front desk handled a couple of things. We were explicitly told that you cannot reserve sun beds. No problem as we don’t do that. However, coming down on the first day, I asked if it was a problem if we temporarily leave ours to go to breakfast- no you cannot is what we were told. So we had breakfast in shifts, not really how I want to spend my holiday with friends, guarding towels as the reception guy said he would remove them.

Next day- the same staff member removed towels from around the pool and fair enough, no one was there. But- what did he do? He also laid out 3 towels for someone! This was at 0830. 3 local girls came to the pool at 1300.

Ah but yes- it’s later revealed that this was for friends of the manager’s son. Not acceptable to do this when paying customers are treated like villains for even asking if we can leave our towels down whilst we have breakfast. It was questioned why these towels weren’t taken ‘oh they are just at the pharmacy’ for 5.5 hours?! No.

Now it was addressed with a free drink and a conversation with management by a friend, but it shouldn’t happen in the first place. We didn’t complain to get anything free.

Next issue- The smoking of cannabis in the hotel. Each to their own, if that’s your thing. But in a public space, no. Again, local people coming in. Not a problem if you’re respectful… but smoking weed down the side of the pool near the entrance and then later on, by the pool. No thanks. The smell is disgusting.

Some girls asked reception about it and complained- their response was… ‘oh it’s legal so we can’t do anything’ it’s legal in Greece for medicinal purposes. And illegal if it’s for recreational purposes. Somehow, I don’t think drinking and smoking weed with your mates at a tourist hotel is medicinal. They felt fobbed off and I don’t blame them.

The last few days of the holiday, the place turned into what can only be described as a Dutch teenage crèche. It’s not the most sound proofed hotel, and we were disturbed early hours. This included screaming and shouting. I got up early one morning and went out because of it. I don’t think it’s enough for ‘security’ to shout across the pool area ‘be quiet’ to teens who are paralytic on their balconies at 6.30am.

It could be a lovely experience for all ages of those seeking adult only, but only if it’s managed fairly and properly.

This was our second stay at Cook's Club, and once again it exceeded all our expectations. Everything was perfect from start to finish. The location is ideal, the hotel is spotless, and every member of staff was friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help.

Our room was lovely, comfortable, and cleaned to a very high standard every day. Fresh towels were provided daily, and everything was kept spotless throughout our stay.

A huge thank you to Stravos, Erika, Adonis, Naysika, and all the team for making our holiday so special. Their exceptional service and warm personalities really made a difference. The cleaners worked so hard, and the chefs served delicious food throughout our stay.

Breakfast was excellent with a huge variety to choose from each morning. The cocktails were delicious, and the bar staff were brilliant—always friendly, attentive, and happy to recommend drinks. The DJ created an amazing atmosphere every day, and the massage was one of the highlights of our holiday—so relaxing and well worth it.

The sun loungers were really comfortable, making it easy to relax by the pool all day. We had another unforgettable holiday and are already looking forward to returning next year. After visiting Cooks Club In Rhodes last year, we loved the brand; unfortunately, the brand didn’t live up to our expectations this time. I’ll start with the positives first: Stylish, clean, with a boho vibe as expected. The food is excellent and staff are attentive. It’s in a great location, close to the sea from with lots of nice restaurants nearby. Now for the negatives: It’s supposed to be a chilled place to stay but honestly, you cannot relax during the live DJ sets from 1-6pm each day. I mentioned this to staff and they said it’s advertised as a ‘lively hotel’ (so is it chilled or lively - make your mind up!) The music was so loud during the day to the point you couldn’t hear yourself speak. The music played in the morning up until the DJ comes (which is 1-6pm each day) was easy and relaxing (Chill House). The average age group is 18-25. Mostly young, immature groups of lads. We were woken by rowdiness in the early hours. We witnessed 14 lads who decided to throw ice from a bucket at one another who were close by us on the grassed area at the side of the bar. The hotel also allow passing public into the resort, but say they’re not allowed to use the sun loungers; whilst they did move some chancers on, a lot slip through the net and enjoy a day for free. The restaurant is more like a cafeteria, it’s definitely not à la carte as advertised. You order your food at the counter and have to collect it yourself. We came to an adults only hotel - we didn’t expect to be surrounded by mostly roudy teenagers. There were too many ball games in the pool with lots of inconsiderate splashing, my drink went over twice with not so much as an apology. We did mention about the very loud music and a member of staff did come to address it, however she was very firm in her stance by reminding us that it’s clearly advertised as a lively hotel. Disappointing stay, but we made the most of it.
