Located in the quiet and picturesque village of Sissi in Crete, this family-friendly hotel offers guests an ideal environment for relaxing and enjoying the Cretan way of life. The hotel is the perfect base from which to explore the neighbouring towns of Agios Nikolaos, Malia and Hersonissos, or the monastery of St. George Selinari. The hotel offers a range of stylish rooms and suites overlooking the sea and Zeus Island, the majestic mountains, or the inviting pool and gardens. Guests can lounge by one of seven outdoor freshwater pools, rejuvenate at the spa, and enjoy the hotel's entertainment programme, while children will delight in the kid's club, playground and kid's spa. The hotel also has four restaurants serving international and local cuisines, as well as six bars and clubs to choose from. This hotel truly offers something for everyone, making it ideal for family holidays.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Although we are still staying at Vasia Resort & Spa, we already felt that the incredible staff deserved these kind words.
We have stayed at many hotels over the years, but we have never experienced service like this before. Every single member of the team genuinely goes above and beyond to make sure guests have the best possible holiday. You don't just feel like another guest – you feel genuinely welcomed, appreciated and cared for.
A very special thank you to Sherilyn at the pool bar. She is one of the kindest people we have ever met. Always smiling, attentive and full of positive energy, she makes every visit to the bar a pleasure.
Another huge thank you to John at the seaside restaurant. He is incredibly funny, warm and friendly, and he made us smile every single time we saw him. His personality and hospitality made every meal even more enjoyable.
We would also like to mention Richi, who takes care of the pool towels. He puts so much effort into his work and is always helpful, cheerful and welcoming. It's clear that he genuinely cares about every guest's experience.
At the Italian restaurant, Julian impressed us with his professionalism. He is attentive, knowledgeable and delivers outstanding service with genuine kindness.
And finally, thank you to Christina, the yoga instructor, who is such a lovely person. Her classes are relaxing, welcoming and filled with positive energy.
The people are what make Vasia Resort & Spa truly special. Every member of staff works incredibly hard, and together they create an atmosphere that is warm, personal and unforgettable.
To the entire team: thank you for everything you do. You have set a new standard for what exceptional hospitality looks like, and we are already certain that this has been one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had. We are looking forward to enjoying the rest of our stay, and we sincerely hope to return one day.
We booked this hotel while it was still being renovated, so all we had to go on were the CGI images. After reading some of the negative reviews that were posted shortly after the hotel reopened, we have to admit we were feeling a little nervous.
Before travelling, we emailed the hotel to share our concerns. They replied almost immediately, reassuring us that everything would be completed before our arrival, and that personal response really put our minds at ease.
I’m so glad we trusted them because from the moment we arrived until the day we left, we had an absolutely fantastic holiday. This is a genuine 5-star hotel, and we couldn’t have asked for more.
Our family room was incredible. It was spread over two floors, giving us all plenty of space. Upstairs, our two teenage daughters had a huge bedroom with their own bathroom, TV and balcony. Downstairs, my husband and I had a massive, comfortable bed, with an extra bed for our 6-year-old son, our own bathroom, patio and private pool – which was definitely one of the highlights of the holiday! The room also included a Nespresso machine, TV, robes and slippers, and a mini fridge that was refilled daily with bottled water. The air conditioning worked brilliantly, which was such a welcome relief after long days in the sun.
The food and drinks were exceptional. Breakfast offered a huge variety, but the freshly baked pistachio-filled croissants deserve a special mention – they were absolutely delicious! The pool bar served fantastic lunches with plenty of choice, including gyros, burgers, souvlaki, salads and nachos, all freshly prepared and really good quality.
The drinks selection was equally impressive. There was everything from cocktails to smoothies, milkshakes and soft drinks. My personal favourites were the strawberry daiquiris – they were perfect!
The pools were lovely and ideal for families. They weren’t too deep, so our son happily spent hours playing in the water. The sunbeds were some of the most comfortable we’ve used, and pool towels were provided and could be exchanged throughout the day whenever needed.
There are three à la carte restaurants, and every one of them was excellent. The Italian was fantastic, the open-fire grill restaurant was superb, and the Cretan restaurant was simply beautiful. It’s located right on the seafront, so you can enjoy incredible sunset views while eating delicious food. The seafood there was outstanding. Next door is the seafront bar, which became one of our favourite places to relax with a drink while watching the sun go down.
We also visited the restaurant at the sister hotel up the road on our final evening, and it was the perfect way to end our holiday. It felt really special.
The staff deserve enormous credit. Every single member of the team worked incredibly hard and always had a smile on their face. A special thank you to Julian, who became our new friend during the holiday, and to everyone working at the pool bar. They work so hard.
The location is another huge plus. It’s just a short walk into a beautiful little fishing village with lovely shops, bars and restaurants. We loved wandering there in the evenings, watching the sunset before seeing the fishing boats bobbing on the sea. It was really peaceful.
The only very slight downside is that the hotel doesn’t have its own sandy beach. However, they provide a shuttle bus to a beach around 20 minutes away, and if you prefer, you can swim in the sea by the harbour in the village.
We honestly had the best family holiday, and we’ll definitely be returning. If you’re hesitating because of some of the early reviews after the reopening, don’t be. Our experience was fab, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing family holiday.
We had the best experience at the Vasia gym!The girls at the reception were very kind and helpful. The gym instructor,Dimitris, was very experienced and fun to train with! The gym equipment was awesome! The premises of the gym and spa were very clean and well taken care of!II trained there with my husband and daughter and we absolutely loved it!
We returned to Vasia having had a beautiful holiday there in 2024. There have been changes since Marriot have come in to the mix, most for the better, some we have been assured will be improved once all the renovations are complete. The rooms are so lovely, clean, spacious, my 2 daughters were so happy to find they had their own floor up a spiral staircase with their own bathroom and balcony in the 2 bedroom family room we stayed in. With a bathroom downstairs and terrace for us, we were more than happy. The staff were amazing in every area, special mention to Sheryl, Simos, Adrian, Singh, and Richie around the pool (there are 3 pools but we stayed around the main one as it suited us better). Food was amazing in all the restaurants but our favourite was the Greek Restaurant by the seafront, beautiful food, especially the calamari! John and Esmerand made us feel like family and really made our holiday special. The entertainment wasn't as frequent as our last visit but the fire show is still on once a week and a dj slot has been added around the main pool on a sunday which we loved! Overall a wonderful holiday in Vasia, thank you to everyone who made us feel so welcome. See you again soon!
We had a fantastic stay at Vasia Resort & Spa with our family and would happily return.
The resort is in an excellent location in the heart of Sissi. There is a large supermarket immediately next door, countless charming restaurants and cafés within a short walk, and the beautiful waterfront is just minutes away. It made exploring the town incredibly easy, especially with young children.
We booked a two-bedroom, two-bathroom suite for our family, and it was extremely accommodating with plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable.
It’s worth noting that the resort was only recently acquired by Marriott and is currently being renovated in phases. The renovated lobby, pool areas, and guest rooms are all beautifully done and give the property a fresh, modern feel. Based on what we’ve seen, I’m sure the remainder of the resort will eventually be renovated to the same standard.
The pool area is gorgeous, and our children absolutely loved the water park. The sea is only a two-minute walk away, where there’s a calm cove that’s perfect for swimming with kids.
The resort is exceptionally family-friendly. There is a kids’ club available for a small fee, and we appreciated how clean and well-maintained the children’s facilities were, especially the family bathrooms and baby changing areas. Everything felt thoughtfully designed for families traveling with young children.
The food was another highlight of our stay. The breakfast buffet offered an extensive selection and was one of the most hygienic buffets we’ve experienced, with food kept behind glass and served by staff. The seaside restaurant serves some of the best Greek food we’ve had—everything was incredibly fresh, and dining there while watching the sunset was unforgettable.
The management team deserves special recognition. They were warm, responsive, and genuinely hospitable. They even anticipated our late arrival and had food prepared for us in advance, which was a thoughtful gesture after a long day of travel.
We experienced a couple of minor hiccups with housekeeping and food and beverage service during our stay. However, given that the resort is in the midst of a transition and ongoing renovations, these felt understandable. More importantly, once we mentioned the issues, the staff addressed them promptly and everything was quickly put right.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay and found Vasia Resort & Spa to be an excellent choice for families. With its outstanding location, spacious accommodations, beautiful facilities, excellent dining, and attentive management, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it and look forward to returning.
