A nice family hotel
This is an absolutely fine hotel for the price. The staff are nice, it's clean, has a nice pool, great kids pool and kids play area. It's definitely more of a 3* hotel (particularly the room we stayed in) and not super luxurious but also really nice for a family holiday as it's not loud and busy and it's a few minutes walk from the beach and the touristy shops and restaurants. We hired a car which was handy for getting out to explore less touristy beaches and restaurants. We were travelling with a 3 year old and the hotel buffet was actually ideal for what we needed for her and for the phase of life we're in right now. We still drove to other places for more authentic Greek lunches most days, so we were glad to be full board and not all inclusive. The breakfast was also absolutely fine in the hotel with plenty of options. If you're travelling with young children and want somewhere low key and relaxing, I would recommend this hotel.

Fantastic family-friendly accommodation in a great location
The Royal Hotel and Suites is a fantastic little resort in a great location, close to the traditional seaside village of Polychrono and nearby beaches.
It’s very family friendly and you’ll get personal service, as it only has around 70 rooms and suites.
It offers a lot for accommodation of this size. There’s a nice L-shaped pool, close to a bar and nearby snack kitchen, serving additional lunch items like burgers and chips.
The main buffet restaurant is nearby too, with plenty of food options for breakfast, lunch, and evening meals inside, and a nice outside seating area, complete with fans and shades.
Our suite was bright, clean and modern, with a lovely small private outdoor pool, complete with sunbeds and chairs. The suite had a decent rain-shower, with pebble flooring and an attractive stone sink. We had a good-sized fridge and our own coffee maker. The suites come with the added benefit of private cabana beds, close to the main pool, and access to an additional refreshment area, containing canned drinks, chilled wine and snacks.
The suites are close to a large green space, where children could play or guests could sit in shaded areas. This area also included a small play park at one end, complete with mini golf and giant chess, and there was table tennis at the other end. There are three other accommodation blocks, all only three-floors high, and there’s a small water park for younger guests. I really wish we’d found this resort when our kids were younger!
Our three (now almost grown-up) children shared a top-floor apartment, again with a modern bathroom and kitchen area, which had two separate sleeping areas and a good-sized balcony.
As well as the buffet, longer staying guests have an option to enjoy a small a la carte restaurant on one night of each week’s stay.
Polychrono is part of the Kassandra peninsula, the first of Halkidiki’s ‘three fingers’. It’s a bustling resort with plenty of bars, tavernas and shops. The nearest beaches are about a ten-minute walk from the Royal, but it has its own beach area, about a 20minute walk away, and guests can use a free shuttle bus too. The linked beach bar had a good range of drinks and lunch options.
All of the hotel staff were friendly and worked hard to keep the rooms, pools and grounds spotless and running smoothly. I’d particularly call out Christina, on reception; and Dimitrius, on the bar; as well as the friendly bus driver, who seemed to double up as a maintenance man and gardener too.
I’ve visited Greece and its islands many times and found this an ideal spot for a quiet and relaxing holiday.

A fantastic hotel with excellent facilities – we’d definitely return, but not on an all-inclusive basis
We have just returned from a 10-night stay in a private pool suite with VIP access, and overall we had a fantastic holiday.
The room was beautiful, spotlessly clean and the private pool was worth every penny. Having our own reserved cabana by the main pool was a lovely touch, and the VIP lounge was a great place to relax throughout the day. The hotel itself was immaculate throughout our stay and everywhere was exceptionally clean.
The staff were fantastic throughout our stay. Everyone was friendly, welcoming and always happy to help. A special mention also has to go to the housekeeping team, who did an amazing job keeping both our room and the hotel spotless every single day.
The location is excellent. It’s only a short walk into Polychrono, where there are plenty of fantastic restaurants, bars and shops. We loved being able to wander into town in the evenings and experience the local atmosphere.
The children’s splash pool was brilliant and is a fantastic addition for families. It was well designed, great fun for children and clearly very popular.
The pool grill was the standout food offering at the hotel. The freshly cooked burgers and hot dogs were excellent and became our go-to lunch most days. They were consistently the best food available at the hotel.
The private cabana was another fantastic feature, but one small improvement would make a huge difference. An adjustable roof or retractable canopy would allow guests to control the amount of shade throughout the day. During the hottest part of the afternoon it became too hot to comfortably sit there, so we found ourselves moving elsewhere. With adjustable shade, it would be perfect.
Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment was the all-inclusive food and drinks. The buffet became repetitive over a 10-night stay and, although there was always something to eat, the quality simply didn’t reflect the standard of the hotel or the price we paid for our holiday.
The à la carte restaurant was particularly disappointing. As guests staying more than seven nights, we were entitled to one meal there, so we were really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the menu we ordered from did not accurately reflect what was actually served. The dishes that arrived were very different to what we had expected from the descriptions and, had we been paying the prices shown on the menu, we would have been extremely disappointed. We had hoped for a traditional Greek dining experience that showcased local cuisine, but instead it felt more like a basic barbecue-style grilled menu. This is something the hotel really needs to review, both in terms of the menu descriptions and the overall concept.
One area that could also be improved is the management of the sunbeds. The hotel has plenty of signage asking guests not to reserve sunbeds around the main pool, but unfortunately this wasn’t enforced. We regularly saw beds left with towels on them for hours while nobody was using them. There is also a policy around the children’s splash pool asking guests without children to give up their sunbeds if families arrive, but we never saw this managed either. Thankfully the hotel was fairly quiet during our stay, so it wasn’t a major issue for us, but I can imagine this becoming frustrating during busier periods.
One thing we quickly realised was that Polychrono has some outstanding restaurants. We ended up eating out most evenings and every meal we had in town was considerably better than the food included within the all-inclusive package.
This hotel is perfect for anyone who doesn’t want the typical busy all-inclusive atmosphere. It has a much more relaxed, independent feel, which we really enjoyed. If you’re considering staying here, our advice would be to book half board or bed and breakfast, hire a car and explore Halkidiki. There is so much to see, and the local restaurants are well worth experiencing.
Overall, we had an amazing holiday and made some wonderful family memories. The accommodation, facilities, cleanliness and location are excellent, and we would absolutely stay here again. However, we would choose half board or bed and breakfast next time rather than all-inclusive.
If the hotel improved the quality and variety of the food and drinks, reimagined the à la carte restaurant with a more authentic Greek dining experience, enforced its sunbed policies more consistently and added adjustable shade to the cabanas, it would easily be a five-star experience.
A pleasant stay with the right expectations
After reading some of the negative reviews, I was a little worried before arriving. However, after spending our holiday here, I think it’s important to have the right expectations.
This is a family-run hotel, not a huge luxury resort with endless restaurants and entertainment. If you’re expecting a five-star resort experience, this may not be the right choice. But if you’re looking for a clean, welcoming base to explore the beautiful beaches and villages of Halkidiki, it does exactly what it promises.
The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The reception staff were always kind and helpful, and the cleaning lady deserves a special mention—she was incredibly warm, hardworking, and kept our room spotless throughout our stay.
The food was average, with enough variety to enjoy a different meal each day. Could it be improved? Of course. But we never went hungry, and we were here to experience Halkidiki, not spend all day at the hotel buffet.
The location is ideal if you enjoy exploring. Every day we visited different beaches and nearby villages, then returned to a peaceful hotel to relax.
Overall, we had a lovely holiday. If you appreciate genuine hospitality, cleanliness, and a friendly atmosphere more than luxury extras, I believe you’ll enjoy your stay here as we did. Thank you to the whole team for making us feel welcome.

Hotel was lovely, food was good and the rooms are great. It was just in the wrong place. Polichrono in Halkidiki is now reminiscent of Benidorm with nothing resembling Greece as we know it. Good job our hotel was all inclusive as all the eating places are either pizzas, gyros or extortionate bars with extortionate prices and they are a 10 min walk downhill to where the beach is meaning you have an uphill climb back and its not worth it. The beach is approx 10ft wide and to have a sunbed you have to book it day before and pay for it. It's mainly geared up for families with children and there was a hell of a lot of children. The sidewalk was full of kids rides and not the greek of old. Halkidiki is heaven sent to eastern European families, they break up from school towards end of June and drive there. Hotel has no entertainment only for kids. I have no intentions of ever going back to Halkidiki. I was so disappointed I didn't take one photo of the place.
