Just returned from a weeks holiday at Akti Coast Club which we thoroughly enjoyed. Travelled as a family of 4 (children aged 3 and 1) plus 2 grandparents. This hotel ticked every box we'd expect for a good, 4-star, family-friendly hotel in Greece.

We upgraded one room to a superior double room - which was worthwhile for the additional space with 2 children plus slightly more modern than the standard double the grandparents stayed in. The standard double was more than adequate for 2-3 people. Both rooms were clean on arrival and cleaned daily. Fresh towels every day etc. Comfortable beds, good aircon. A couple of questionable DIY touch-ups in the room (as other reviews suggested) but nothing that was unsafe or particularly bothered us. The safe was free, not always the case.

There's a lot of ants on the pathways around the hotel (not surprising for a tropical climate). We only had them in one of the rooms once and within an hour of notifying the hotel they came and sorted it and they didn't return, so no issue. We never saw ants in the important places like beds or the food areas.

We found all of the staff superb - helpful, polite and friendly.

Excellent pool areas; there were ample sunbeds and umbrellas always available. Some pools are quieter than others, so there's something for all. Each pool is near its own bar which helps.

Entertainment, music and a full activity programme around the main pool all day for those that want it. Evening entertainment mainly consisted of a min disco at 8pm plus a show of some sort at 9pm. The animation team were hard-working and keen to get people involved where they could. The animation/entertainment programme is very much built for families.

We found the food very good. A good variety in the buffet, sometimes a little cold but as buffet food goes it was one of the better I've experienced. The daytime snack bar was very popular and had a good choice, not just standard burger and chips. All the usual all-inclusive drinks you'd expect throughout the day/night.

The only point for improvement we would suggest for the hotel is around the al-a-carte restaurants. The food in both al-a-carte's is very good, that's important to say. However, the experience doesn't really fit for a family hotel. In both you are served as a full group sitting an 8-course fine dining menu. If you don't like what's on the next course you just have to wait until the course afterwards. There's also no children's menu and the food isn't exactly what most children would request. You are in there for 2 - 2.5hours, this is a long time for children to sit/eat (which 75% of the tables had children at). I don't imagine the chorus of fed up children made it a great experience for those tables without children either. After a couple of courses people just started to leave. I went to the toilet between courses 5 and 6 and when I returned most tables had been vacated yet you could see the chefs still preparing 50 odd plates as if everyone was still there. The wastage must have been exceptional. Anyone eating here with children I'd recommend taking in as many colouring books as you can carry, plus nipping to the buffet to get some food that your child will want to eat.

It'd be excellent for an adults only hotel but for this setting I think a simple 3-4 course menu, with a couple of choices per course, plus a children's menu would be far more suitable and welcome.

This didn't spoil our trip and overall this is a great hotel for a family holiday.
