TripAdvisor Review
Beautiful resort, but the service does not match the promise

OKU Kos is undeniably beautiful, with stunning grounds and a wonderful setting. Unfortunately, the experience did not live up to the standards one would expect from a luxury resort.

The service was minimal, with staff often appearing disengaged and, at times, unprofessional. Staff frequently spoke loudly among themselves, and on one occasion, a waiter interrupted us while taking our dinner order to speak loudly to a colleague at a nearby table. At no point during our stay did anyone genuinely ask how our experience was, whether we were enjoying ourselves, or whether we needed anything. In fact, the impression was almost that the more you can avoid guests, disengage, or have as little interaction as possible, the better.

The WhatsApp butler service was particularly frustrating, often providing contradictory information. Arrangements agreed one day were retracted the next, bookings were not properly confirmed, and essential information was rarely communicated clearly. Asking questions at reception often felt as though we were inconveniencing the staff rather than being assisted as guests.

There was also an uncomfortable impression that everything was designed to generate additional charges. €6 for bread on a half-board package, main courses served without sides that are then charged separately, and not even water routinely offered at breakfast are difficult to reconcile with the expectations of a luxury resort. At breakfast, we were craving avocado but could not find any, only to discover towards the end of our stay that avocado toasts, eggs Benedict, and other options were available—but had to be specifically ordered and charged separately.

Be very careful to check your bills. We found extra charges and tips added that we had never requested or agreed to and had to repeatedly double-check the bills. When we questioned these charges, the language barrier at reception made the situation even more uncomfortable, leaving us feeling as though we were somehow suspicious simply for asking for clarification.

Even our departure perfectly summed up the experience. Our taxi, booked through reception, arrived and honked outside. Rather than assisting us, the staff simply left us to take our own luggage out. There was no help, no farewell, and no sense that anyone cared whether we had enjoyed our stay or might return. We genuinely felt as though we were being shown the door. We have never experienced such a cold departure, even in much smaller hotels.

The resort also lacks the activities, animation, and sense of life one would expect. Unfortunately, this feeling extended to our experience of Kos itself, which appeared unusually quiet and lacking in energy, with some areas feeling run-down and neglected.

In the end, OKU Kos is a beautiful resort with a surprisingly minimal level of service—as though the beautiful surroundings are there to be admired, while guests are left to fend for themselves rather than being genuinely welcomed and cared for.

A beautiful property with enormous potential, but the service, communication, professionalism, transparency, and overall guest experience need significant improvement to justify its luxury positioning.

Six years of perfect stays — nowhere else compares

This is our go-to hotel, and after 6 years and around 8 stays, it still gets everything right. From the room upgrade to the warm welcome on arrival and the attentive care throughout, the team is simply amazing. The hotel is as perfect as always — it genuinely feels like a home away from home. We're already planning our 2027 return, and hoping to see Elena back on the team, who was a highlight of the stay. If you're deciding where to book, this is it. A perfect vacation from start to finish — highly recommended.

OKU beach incident

The hotel itself is a beautiful place to stay. The design, atmosphere, and overall ambiance are exactly what you would expect from a luxury resort, and we genuinely enjoyed many aspects of our stay. However, a few situations occurred during our visit that left us frustrated and prevented the experience from living up to the standard we expected.

The most disappointing part of our stay happened at the beach. We reserved a beach bed and left our tote bag hanging on the umbrella as a clear indication that the bed was occupied while we briefly returned to our room to freshen up. When we came back a short time later, another hotel guest had taken our beach bed, removed our bag from the umbrella, and left it on the sand behind the bed.

No guest should ever feel entitled to move another guest’s personal belongings. It was disrespectful, unacceptable, and left us wondering whether our belongings had been lost or stolen.

What made the situation even worse was the hotel’s response. We informed the staff immediately, but they did not resolve the issue. They did not ask the other guest to return to their original sunbed, nor did they offer a meaningful solution. We were simply left to deal with an uncomfortable situation that should never have happened in the first place.

What is even more frustrating is that we spent three days at the hotel, and every single day we saw guests reserve beach and pool sunbeds early in the morning by leaving towels and personal belongings while they went elsewhere. It is clearly common practice throughout the resort.

If the hotel’s policy is that reservations are not allowed or that belongings should never be left unattended, then this should be communicated clearly to every guest from the moment they check in. There were no signs, no explanation, and no warning. On the other hand, if reserving sunbeds is acceptable—as it clearly appears to be for many guests—then the hotel should enforce that policy and prevent guests from taking occupied beds or moving someone else’s belongings.

What is particularly frustrating is that if the situation had been reversed and we had moved another guest’s belongings to take their sunbed, I have no doubt it would have caused a confrontation and likely required staff intervention. Guests should never be put in a position where they have to defend their space because the hotel fails to enforce clear and consistent rules.

Unfortunately, this was not the only disappointing aspect of our stay. When it was time to leave, we had to load all of our luggage into our car ourselves. The staff only transported our bags from our room to the reception area, after which we were left to handle everything on our own. While this may seem like a small detail, it is not the level of service I would expect from a hotel that presents itself as a luxury resort.

Our sleep was also affected during the stay. On multiple nights there was a loud generator or mechanical noise that could be heard in the middle of the night. In addition, the air conditioning unexpectedly switched off and then back on during the night, which was disruptive and made it difficult to get a proper night’s sleep.

The property itself is stunning, and we truly appreciated its design and atmosphere. However, luxury hospitality is defined not only by beautiful surroundings but also by service, consistency, and how guest concerns are handled. I hope management reviews these issues—particularly the beach sunbed policy, staff training on resolving guest disputes, the departure service, and the nighttime noise and air-conditioning problems—so that future guests can enjoy the resort without experiencing the same frustrations.

Disappointing Experience at a Five-Star Hotel!

My stay started very well. The reception staff were welcoming, and the room was clean and comfortable. As this is a well-known international five-star hotel, I expected a high standard of service throughout my stay.

Unfortunately, one incident completely changed my impression of the hotel.

On my first day, I noticed that many guests reserved their beach and pool loungers by leaving towels and bags on them. There were no signs or hotel policy stating that this was prohibited, and this practice was clearly being followed by many guests. I respected everyone else’s belongings and did not touch anything.

The following morning, before breakfast, I left my handbag with my personal belongings hanging on the beach umbrella at my sunbeds in the front row. After breakfast, I returned to my room to change before going back to the beach. When I came back, I found that another group of guests had removed my bag, placed it on the sand, and taken my sunbeds.

When I asked a staff member for help, he told me that guests should not touch other people’s belongings. However, despite acknowledging this, he did nothing to resolve the situation. He did not ask the other guests to return the sunbeds, did not apologise, and left me to argue with them myself. His only solution was to move me to the second row, which was completely unacceptable.

This left me feeling that I was not treated fairly. The rules appeared to be applied differently depending on who was involved, and I personally felt that I experienced discriminatory treatment. That is deeply disappointing, especially from a globally recognised five-star hotel.

Because of this experience, I cannot recommend this hotel. It has also made me question staying with this hotel brand again in the future. Every guest deserves to be treated equally, respectfully, and professionally, and unfortunately that was not my experience.

OKU delivered - agin!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at OKU. Hospitality, atmosphere, guets and the entire OKU team are truly exceptional.

Over the years, we have stayed at many outstanding places and five-star hotels around the world. Yet OKU Kos is the only destination we keep coming back to. That says it all.

OKU sets the benchmark for excellence while maintaining the incredibly high standards that make this place so special. Even the ongoing construction work did not affect our stay in the slightest – there was no noticeable noise and absolutely no compromise to the experience.

The resort is adults-only and you can really enjoy the tranquillity there. Great vibes on the poolside.

Rooms, beds and pillows are super comfy. Yout get room service by the cleaning service twice a day which gives you the feeling OKU really values each guest.

Thank you so much for another unforgettable stay. Please pass on our warmest regards to Harry, Eva, and the entire team.

Food & Drinks at OKU are slighty high, but quality is really good and healthy! The breakfast is stunning!

Stay as you are and we very much hope to be back again soon.
