Royal Myconian

We couldn’t have imagined anything better than what we received. EVERY single person was so very kind and accommodating. We felt like family. We will miss everyone we met here. I am extremely grateful for the help we received with our transfers.

I recently stayed at the Myconian Royal Hotel and overall had a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday. The hotel is spacious, clean and beautifully situated in a peaceful location near Elia Beach. If you are looking to experience Mykonos without being in the middle of the busy party atmosphere of Mykonos Town, this is a great location. It is approximately a 30-minute drive from Mykonos Town.

One of the hotel's great conveniences is the daily shuttle service during the season, which runs to Mykonos Town at 9am and 2pm, with a return journey approximately 3.5 hours later. This gives you plenty of time to explore Little Venice, do some shopping and sightseeing, see the famous windmills, and sample some of the local food. While in Little Venice, I would highly recommend Veranda. The food was delicious, the staff were friendly and the views of the windmills are fantastic, particularly if you sit upstairs.

The Hotel & Facilities The hotel has its own private beach, with a clean beach bar and toilets, and food and drinks are available throughout the day, including smoothies. There are also beach vendors who regularly approach guests offering bags, sarongs and bracelets, so this is something to be aware of if you prefer a completely uninterrupted beach experience.

The hotel has several on-site clothing boutiques and a hair salon, which are useful additions. However, I do think there is a missed opportunity to have a small convenience shop selling everyday essentials such as crisps, chocolates, snacks, soft drinks and feminine hygiene products. Given the hotel's location, having these basic items available on-site would be particularly convenient and would save guests having to travel into Mykonos Town simply to purchase something they may have forgotten or need during their stay. It could also provide the hotel with an additional revenue stream.

The swimming pool is fantastic and the pool area is very attractive. The breakfast staff were friendly and welcoming, although I felt the breakfast buffet could have offered a little more variety. There was a good selection of hot and cold continental-style breakfast items, but I would have liked to see more fresh fruit and options such as pancakes or avocado. Overall, it was perfectly adequate, but there is certainly room for improvement for a five-star property.

The food throughout the hotel was excellent. I particularly recommend the baklava, mushroom ravioli, Greek salad and prawns. Room service was convenient and quick. The restaurant and bar staff at lunchtime could, however, be a little more proactive. On occasions, male members of staff appeared more engaged in chatting amongst themselves or looking at their phones rather than attending to guests. This was noticeable because the female members of the team seemed to be doing a great deal of the work.

The spa is small but very well maintained, and the staff were professional and well trained.

If you are booking a room, I would recommend asking for one away from the pool. The rooms in the 500s have balconies with fantastic views across the sea and are particularly peaceful.

The reception area has a lovely bar with comfortable seating and amazing views, making it a great place to relax in the evening. The front office team were professional, helpful and welcoming.

I also have to mention the hotel cat! He regularly sits at the entrance welcoming guests and clearly runs the place. You will often find him wandering through reception, apparently checking that everything is in order. He is clearly very well cared for and was a lovely little addition to the hotel experience.

I think the hotel could also benefit from having a library or quiet reading area. This is something I have seen other five-star hotels do very well and it would fit beautifully with the peaceful atmosphere of the property.

A Note About Our Stay The main issue during our stay was unfortunately something that significantly affected the first two nights. There was a large Indian wedding party staying at the hotel during the same week, with approximately 100 guests. The celebrations lasted several days and included music, chanting and other festivities, on occasions continuing until around midnight sometimes later. The wedding guests also occupied a significant part of the hotel and, unfortunately, some were quite noisy when returning to their rooms late at night, often talking loudly in groups or on their mobile phones.

As the rooms are not particularly soundproof, I did not sleep well during the first two nights and eventually had to contact the night staff. I felt the night team could have handled the situation more effectively and would benefit from additional customer-service training.

I do feel the hotel should consider informing guests at the time of booking if a large wedding or private event is taking place, particularly when it is likely to have an impact on the pool area, noise levels and general atmosphere. On one afternoon, the pool area was also closed for the wedding party, and guests were not informed in advance. Better communication would have made a significant difference and would have allowed guests to make an informed choice about their dates.

A Special Mention for Jack Fortunately, the situation was handled exceptionally well once I spoke with Jack, the Front Office Manager.

Jack was incredibly professional, understanding and customer-focused. He personally took me around several rooms so that I could find one that would be as peaceful as possible. Throughout the rest of my stay, whenever I passed through reception, he would check in with me and ask whether everything was okay. His attitude was exactly what you would hope for from a five-star hotel manager. He genuinely cared about my experience and went above and beyond to resolve the problem. I cannot speak highly enough of Jack — he was an absolute pleasure to deal with and is a real asset to the hotel.

Fortunately, after the room move, the remainder of my holiday was restful and thoroughly enjoyable.

Overall Despite the issues with the wedding party, I had a lovely stay at the Myconian Royal Hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful, peaceful and well maintained, the location near Elia Beach is excellent, the food is very good and most of the staff are welcoming and accommodating.

With some improvements to breakfast variety, restaurant service, soundproofing and, most importantly, communication with guests about large private events, I think the hotel could make an already enjoyable experience even better. For me, the standout was the combination of the peaceful location, beautiful sea views, excellent food and the exceptional service from Jack and the front office team.

I would happily return — preferably during a quieter week!

All around a lovely experience. The Royal staff went out of their way to make our 35th wedding anniversary a special experience and now a treasured memory. Highly recommend to others who enjoy casual sophistication, pristine beaches, gourmet food and great people!
