I’ve always wanted to visit Greece, and I would say our holiday was really good. The Marathon Hotel was really nice to stay at and I don’t want the negatives to outweigh the positives. In my opinion, I would say this is more a 3 star hotel rather than a 4 star hotel.
The hotel seemed better located than some of the other hotels in the area and there were some decent tourist shops, restaurants, and bars nearby, including T&P cocktail bar which was right next door. You’re not far from the beach if you don’t mind a little walk. Kolymbia is a quieter area of Rhodes so keep that in mind if that’s not what you’re looking for.
The rooms were fine, a little on the small side but that didn’t bother us since we weren’t in Greece for the hotel rooms! Our room was clean and comfortable. It was cleaned every day to a high standard and we were provided with clean towels whenever we needed them. I’m glad we had the aircon as it was greatly needed! We had a nice little balcony although the sides are quite low, I accidentally made eye contact with a guy on the balcony next to mine which was a bit awkward 😳 I think the room was missing little things that would make a 4-star hotel however I know the standards can be different in each country. I would have loved to see amenities such as a kettle and cups in the room to make yourself tea or coffee, bathrobes and slippers. The soaps in the shower were empty, which wasn’t a problem for us since we brought our own, it would just be good for those to be checked frequently as to not catch any other guests out. Just little things like these would make the hotel more 4-star rather than 3 in my opinion.
The service was really good and we enjoyed talking to the staff! The lady at the front desk was very kind, we loved the staff who manned the gyros and pizza stations — they were wonderful and amazing at their jobs, the food was delicious. Bar staff were very kind, and my friend in particular really found Max entertaining. His personality is better suited for more outgoing people unlike myself, but I appreciate that everyone is different. One thing I would say that set off alarm bells was that as a group of young women, there were some male staff who would act favourably towards you but when they finally got the hint that you weren’t interested/they weren’t getting anything, they acted cold towards you 🤔 not a great look and it was a bit awkward, but at least we left soon after! We only had one truly negative experience with staff when an older male staff member yelled at us one night and told us we had to go to our rooms because we had accidentally been loud. I would’ve understood if we had been reoccurringly loud and abrasive but the reality of the situation is one of us got a surprise and accidentally let out a yelp. We felt like the reaction from the man wasn’t appropriate for the situation and even if he had just spoken to us normally we could have explained but it just left us totally in awe. We didn’t recognise him, he may have been a part of the management but not the main manager who we had seen around a lot and whom seemed nice.
Last things I would mention are there definitely needs to be more sunbeds! Too many guests reserving sunbeds at ridiculously early hours and genuinely not returning for hours! I wish staff had enforced this a lot more. I liked the pool however the speaker was plugged into an extension cord which was plugged into ANOTHER extension cord and was right next to the water, an accident waiting to happen. The food in the buffet was nice and there was variation, there was something for everybody. The cocktails being 6-11pm was a bit ridiculous as that’s often the part I look forward to the most 😩 we found the soft drinks to be severely watered down as well. I liked how the bar had a tap where you could refill your water bottles for free, this saved costs on going to the shop for water.
Had an amazing time in this hotel, everything was incredible, a lot of things to do, staff was the best, such hard-workers always polite and smily, guys from entertaiment were cool especially guy in glasses😎, definitelly recommend
It’s was good experience in the marathon I like the atmosphere and the room was all the time clean and the staff was great with us but Sam is the best the animation guy his the top one and max funny guy too thank you marathon and the manger always smile for us thank you all will will come back soon
It was amazing time we spent here. All employees ate very friendly and also there are lots of programs during the day, and night as well. Sam and Max are the best! 💪💪💪😎
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A hotel that feels like coming home – we’ll be back!
Where do I even start? We’ve just had our second stay at the Marathon Hotel, and if anything, we loved it even more this time.
The hotel itself is excellent, but what truly makes the Marathon special is the people. The atmosphere is warm, relaxed and genuinely friendly from the moment you arrive.
And a special mention has to go to Aggi on reception. Her cheerful smile is one of the first things you see when you arrive and, every morning, she is there with the same warm welcome and attention to detail. She somehow manages to make everyone feel noticed and looked after. Nothing is ever too much trouble for her, and that genuine friendliness really sets the tone for the welcoming atmosphere throughout the hotel. ❤️
Vasilli, the manager, deserves a special mention. He is everywhere — always keeping an eye on things, checking that guests are happy, and taking the time to stop for a chat. You can see how much he cares about the hotel and the people staying there.
George and his restaurant team work incredibly hard and are always welcoming and friendly. The food was consistently enjoyable, and there is plenty of choice. We loved the pizza during the day and the gyros around the pool in the evening. There’s also coffee and cake at teatime and an early coffee and breakfast option for those who are up before everyone else.
Asteris and the bar team are fantastic too — friendly, good fun and always happy to have a chat.
And then there’s Max and the animation team! They do such a brilliant job of keeping the atmosphere lively and fun without ever making you feel pressured to join in. There’s always something going on, and they really add to the holiday atmosphere.
Honestly, nothing seems too much trouble for any of the staff.
And perhaps that is the biggest compliment we can give the Marathon. After two visits, the staff no longer feel like hotel staff — they feel like friends we’ve made on holiday. That’s what makes leaving so difficult. We genuinely will miss them.
The hotel is also in a great location. It’s an easy walk to the beach, there are good bus connections, and plenty of shops, bars and restaurants nearby if you fancy a change of scenery. But with food, drinks and such a great atmosphere at the hotel, you really don’t need to go anywhere!
Our room was spotless, cleaners come every day, and the grounds and pool areas are beautifully maintained. Everything feels well cared for.
We’ve stayed in plenty of hotels over the years, but there is something genuinely special about the Marathon and its staff. It’s not just somewhere you stay — it’s somewhere you feel welcome.
A huge thank you to Vasilli and every single member of the Marathon team for giving us another fantastic holiday. We’ve loved every minute and we’re already talking about coming back for visit number three! ❤️
Highly, highly recommended. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
