Itinerary

Day 1
UK to Bisceglie

Dinner

Fly from the UK to Bari. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel where you will enjoy a welcome dinner.

Day 2
Lecce to Otranto

Breakfast & Dinner

One of Southern Italy’s most appealing cities, today’s full-day tour of Lecce includes the opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of this historic trading centre. Elegant Baroque buildings, ornate churches and marbled courtyards reflect the town’s historic importance. Explore the old town, built around the remnants of an impressive Roman amphitheatre, one of several Roman ruins in the city. Spend time in Otranto, a coastal gem occupying the site of the ancient Greek town of Hydrus.

Day 3
Matera to Altarnura

Breakfast & Dinner

Visit unique, UNESCO-listed Matera, the Mediterranean’s most well-preserved example of ancient troglodyte settlements. Reached through a network of alleys and stairways, these atmospheric ‘Sassi’ caves are stunning in their simplicity: some have stone-fronted formal entrances, and many are renovated for modern use - all are overseen by a stately 13th-century cathedral, situated at the highest and most visible point of the city. Travel to the high plateau town of Altamura to see its Romanesque cathedral, marked by soaring towers and stone-carved arches. Take a tour of the historic town centre, a maze of narrow streets and intimate Claustri, small closed courtyards that serve as places of social and cultural gathering. Here, sample Altamura’s famous local bread, originating from the pastoral traditions of the Murgia plateau.

Day 4
Bisceglie

Breakfast & Dinner

Enjoy a day at leisure or take an optional excursion to the extraordinary caves at Castellana, an underground network of towering stalagmites, stalactites, and vast, cool caverns formed over the centuries. Continue to the white-washed houses and imposing Bell Tower of Monopoli, then on to Polignano a Mare, where striking beaches, nestled among the cliffs, overlook the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic.

Day 5
Alberobello, Locorotondo and Martina Franca

Breakfast & Dinner

Today begins with a drive into the Valley of Itria. Your first stop is Alberobello, home to more than 1,500 unique and quirky Trulli houses – distinctive white-washed cylindrical buildings with conical grey roofs. Dating back to the 14th-century, these houses are often decorated with painted symbols thought to ward off evil spirits. In the quiet village of Locorotondo, look out for more Trulli houses dotted across the picturesque countryside. The day ends in Martina Franca, in the heart of the valley, a town where Moorish influences are apparent in its stunning medieval palaces and churches. The beautiful Ducal Palace is well worth a visit; you’ll have plenty of free time to explore at your own pace and enjoy a gelato or bite to eat.

Day 6
Trani to Castel del Monte

Breakfast & Dinner

Visit Trani, a whitewashed port city of Jewish origin. Enjoy a light lunch in a typical agriturismo eatery, overlooking Castel del Monte, then continue to the renowned fortress itself. Built by the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II, who ruled much of southern Italy in the 13th-century, this octagonal fortress is a masterpiece of medieval architecture set high on an isolated hill.

Day 7
Bisceglie to UK

Breakfast

Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
