St Azur Hotel

Myself and my 2 friends stayed here a few days ago and needless to say were extremely disappointed. The photos are incredibly deceiving. We arrived by taxi in the evening, as soon as we pulled up the driver said “be careful, DANGER, DANGER” - very worrying for 3 young girls in a foreign country. He then told us he couldn’t drop us off at the hotel due to roadworks so we had to walk down a dark alley to get to the hotel. Again, incredibly worrying for 3 young girls. The alleyway appeared to be derelict and a rat ran across the road, there were bin bags everywhere. The reception was red hot with no aircon, same as the hotel corridors. Our room was clean but lacked finishing- some walls and ceilings weren’t painted and was roughly finished in areas. The frame of the bathroom door was broken, and it appeared that the security box on the balcony door was broken also (see photos). We looked out of our balcony and it was horrific. I don’t even know how to describe it other than a derelict building site, with clothes hanging up and thrown into the bushes. We backed onto other flats, which had a man staring at us. The room had a musty smell and the sink smelled of sewers. Before we slept, we checked the doors were locked multiple times as felt totally unsafe. Breakfast was included for our trip - the room is very dark and crammed, no windows. People waiting for glasses and plates as the staff couldn’t keep up. The food was poor - we had to stick to beans on toast as the rest wasn’t nice at all and skipped breakfast 2 of the days. DO NOT TRY THE EGGS. The orange and pineapple juice was very watered down, the apple juice was drinkable. The most deceiving part for us was to find out that the pool is not a part of the hotel and is shared amongst other hotels and the public. The pool does NOT look like the photos. The sunbeds were touching each other, we had to crawl on and off the front. The pool was extremely busy, but the staff were friendly here at least. There hotel had no bar, which appeared strange. So not only could we not sit on the balcony due to the view (and lack of chairs), we also couldn’t sit at the hotel bar - which left minimal options. The aircon in the room was horrendous, very drying and could not get the correct temperature. We woke up multiple times in the night to either turn it down to turn it up as the controls were set by the hotel. The bed and pillows were extremely uncomfortable which meant we found it very difficult to sleep. I’m sure there is more to comment on but I think I may have blocked it out of my memory. This hotel, needless to say, ruined our holiday. We will not be returning here and will absolutely be advising people NOT to come here.

The hotel was about 30 seconds for a row of bars and restaurants which was ideal. The negatives: when we arrived by taxi the driver warned us ‘danger, be careful’ which wasn’t the best start. It was night time and we had to walk down a dark side street to get to the hotel with smelly water and an actual rat running up the the side. Our room was clean and modern but in need of finishing- some walls and ceilings weren’t painted and was roughly finished in areas. Our balcony view was the worst. It was dark outside but our view was very disappointing, I don’t even know how to describe it other than a derelict building site. Safe to say we did not sit out and relax on our balcony at any point. The sink also had a horrible smell coming from it. The breakfast- the room is very dark and crammed, people waiting for glasses and plates as the staff couldn’t keep up. The food was poor- we had to stick to beans on toast as the rest wasn’t nice at all and skipped breakfast 2 of the days. The juices are very watered down. The pool- this is the most deceiving; it is not a part of the hotel and is shared amongst other hotels and the public. Even then it does not look like the photos, they have crammed so many sunbeds in they are squashed together with no room either side to even walk to the bed, we had to crawl on and off the front. The photos make it seem like this is the main part of the hotel. There was also no bar. There wasn’t any pictures of this however I thought it was strange not to have a bar of some sort in the hotel. Overall- clean hotel close to bars and restaurants but looks nothing like the pictures and needs to work on the finishing touches and the surrounding areas.

The room was lovely and clean, and the breakfast was good. We stayed during some sewer works in the area, so there was occasionally an unpleasant smell, but this was understandable given the circumstances.

It was also very convenient that we could leave our luggage at the hotel both before check-in and after check-out. The staff were very kind and helpful.

The only thing we didn't like was that groups of guests were allowed to take up all the seating in the hotel lobby, with some even putting their feet up on the chairs. It would have been nice if the common seating areas had been kept comfortable and available for everyone.
