Alvor Baia Resort Hotel

Just back from our 3rd visit to Alvor Baia - I genuinely cannot understand the bad reviews this place gets. It baffles me, but I guess not everyone can be pleased!

Traveled 7 adults and 4 kids ranging from 11 to 4 years old. The food here is good, there’s a good selection and there’s always safe options too for fussy eaters like pasta, spaghetti bol, nuggets ect. BBQ night is delicious.

The rooms a modern and a good size; having a fridge is handy and the air con does the job!

The pool area and park is what make this hotel; the pool is huge and even though we travelled in the school summer holidays we was always able to get sunbeds although you do need to be down by the pool by I’d say 9am latest. The staff were putting stickers on the brollies of people who had reserved their beds but wasn’t there but I’m not sure it was being policed very well.

The park is a really good park and very handy being so close to the pool, it means your kids can go off and play and you can still see them from your sunbed if your round near the kids pool. Mine loved going between the pool and park all day.

The entertainment isn’t the best I’ve ever seen but it’s perfectly adequate and personally me and my family don’t go for the evening shows, it’s background stuff while we all talk!

The staff are all friendly and accommodating.

David who works mainly at the pool bar is great, always chatty and remembers our family from 2 years ago. The 2 drink rule is loosely in place, I think if your ordering soft drinks they are happy to serve more than 2 but if you go up asking for 4 alcoholic then they probably will turn you down.

Recommended getting the free bus to the beach and getting the little train down to alvor; it goes through all the little streets and is fun way to get there for €5. (Kids under 5 are free). Alvor itself is a lovely place; very authentic and just has a nice vibe.

There are a few little niggles about the hotel - wish there was more seating in the evening but that only applies to the busier months. Wish there was a snack bar attached to the pool bar rather than having to go back into the hotel for snacks.

Overall this is a great hotel. Myself and my family are discussing going back next year.

On arrival, the hotel is breathtaking. It looks just as impressive in person as it does in the photos. The entire hotel is spotless, spacious, and very well maintained.

Every member of staff we encountered was polite, friendly, and welcoming. Our room was spacious, clean, and thoughtfully designed. The lifts were large, efficient, and reliable—we never waited more than 15 seconds for one.

The pool area is huge, with plenty of sunbeds available. The staff regularly check for unattended towels and remove them if they’ve been left for over an hour. Personally, I think this is a great policy, as it prevents guests from reserving sunbeds all day without using them.

The children’s play area is excellent and a good size. The kids’ zone was a highlight for our children, giving them a fun place to play and take a break from the sun.

The food was delicious, with the lunchtime kebabs being a particular standout. The desserts were fairly average for an all-inclusive buffet, but the overall food quality was very good. The evening entertainment was decent, although much of it relied on audience participation through karaoke and dancing. During our one-week stay, there were only three nights with external entertainment acts.

Overall, this is an excellent hotel for families. Although we didn’t find a great deal to do in the surrounding area, we would happily recommend it to anyone with young children who is looking for a relaxing, hotel-focused holiday. We visited the beach twice, which was pleasant, but the walk from the hotel involved long, steep roads with very little along the way in terms of shops or cafés.

If you’re planning to spend most of your holiday enjoying the hotel’s facilities, this is a fantastic choice. We’ve stayed in many hotels over the years before having children, and this is easily the best family hotel we’ve experienced.
