Very clean apartment, friendly staff, very welcoming and a free return minibus to beach or town every day at set times, could do with more entertainment of an evening but maybe the time of year I visited, will definitely return next year as really enjoyed my stay here
Booked through Hotels.com for this weekend (28th and 29th August) - found out yesterday (the thursday before travelling) that I couldn't travel from Lisbon as I have been ordered to self quarantine by the Portuguese Government as a friend has tested positive for Covid and I met her for lunch last weekend. I was one day to late to cancel through Hoteis.com and after phoning Hoteis.com (who tried there best with the hotel) and the hotel directly they were not even willing to reschedule my booking. I didn't necessarily want a refund of the booking which was almost 200 Euros. I think this is bad form from the hotel's management during the present situation and I wanted to warn others.
The apartment we had was a 1 bed (sleeps 4) for myself and my two teenagers. From previous reviews I was expecting a bit more. It was clean, staff were a bit hit and miss (a fair bit of eye rolling from one of the older ladies in the bar), but mostly friendly and helpful. Food and drink was ok, reasonably priced but not going to win any awards.
My biggest gripe was the uncomfortable beds. Rock hard and so uncomfortable that I ended up with a very bad back. Only one air conditioning unit in the apartment which was in the living room/kitchenette. The pool area had plenty of sun beds and the pool was a decent size.
The location is a bit too far to walk anywhere comfortably. There are a couple of supermarkets within a 10 min walk, but of course yiu have to factor in carrying your shopping back - so had to make several trips. The hotel would benefit from having perhaps a small store selling essentials for their guests.
The beach is stunning though and lots of bars and restaurants there for those who wish to go a bit further than the hotel. Portimao itself seemed a bit run down, but perhaps that’s just the area where the shuttle bus dropped us off. It was too hot to really do hours of exploring the town, so perhaps I’m doing it a mis-service.
The hotel was all in all good value, and great for my very late booking. I don’t think I would revisit though.
Great stay! Mini solo break, great staff especially Miguel in the bar. Made friends with other solos in the bar too.
Pool & reception are newly refurbished. Plenty of room in the apartment.
The apartments are at the back of the resort but an uber costs approx 3.5 euros into Praia de Rocha in the evening, too far to walk as a single female.
The biggest issue with this hotel was the noise. We stayed on the first floor. There is a rooster next door that starts crowing every morning at around 4–5 a.m. It is extremely loud and made it almost impossible to get a good sleep. On top of that, there were also dogs barking, which added to the disturbance, especially during the early morning.
The room looked reasonably clean at first, but there were still some stains in different areas, so the overall cleanliness was only average.
The reception service was another disappointment. The reception is actually located in a different building, so every time assistance was needed, we had to walk over to another building. The male receptionist was unfriendly and did not provide a welcoming experience.
