Set beside the scenic marina in Portimão, NH Marina Portimão Resort offers a relaxing base to enjoy the laid-back beach life of the Algarve. Just under 45 kilometres from Faro Airport, the resort is perfectly positioned near Praia da Rocha beach, and within easy reach of local shops, restaurants, and family attractions. On-site parking adds to the convenience for those exploring the coast by car.
The resort is divided into three areas – Marina Sun, Marina Deck, and Marina Beach – all within walking distance of the pools, restaurants, and bars. If you’d rather not walk, a complimentary buggy service is available to take you comfortably around the resort, including to and from Praia da Rocha.
There are three outdoor saltwater pools, including one large main pool, and one for children, surrounded by sunbeds and umbrellas. Guests can also make use of the 24hr on-site gym, while younger travellers will enjoy the seasonal children’s club and entertainment.
Start your day with a generous breakfast showcasing local Portuguese flavours, served fresh each morning. The main restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner, offering a menu of seasonal dishes made with quality ingredients. For something more casual, enjoy light bites or a refreshing drink at the hotel’s main bar or the poolside bar during the summer months.

Great hotel in a good location
We stayed here for two weeks in a one bedroom apartment with a roof terrace and balcony. It could sleep four with a double bedroom and sofa bed in the living area.
The kitchenette had a sink, kettle, Espresso machine, small microwave and a small fridge. There was plenty of plates, cups, bowls, dishes and cutlery to have food in the apartment as there was a table in the living area, one in the balcony and up on the roof terrace also.
There was plenty of storage space with plenty of hangers and drawers for your clothes.
The bathroom had a shelf underneath as well as the space around the sink for your toiletries.
The bathroom is a monsoon shower head and a handheld shower attachment as well which you use in the bath. We could nit isolate the shower handheld in our room 137. The bath is also a bit lethal as the non stick doesn’t provide any effect and there are no mats provided, beware! Especially if you have left the bath tub soapy as there are no handles to hold on to when you step in or out the bath.
The public areas and gardens are kept beautifully tidy and clean, but housekeeping is not brilliant at cleaning your room. We decided to be eco-friendly and not use the service every day as this is an option the hotel offers and you get tickets for a free drink per person, but there are restrictions applicable on what you can have.
On the days we did have the room cleaned, they didn’t top up the tissues in the bathroom, give us more toilet rolls, or clean the floor adequately. It had definitely not been swept or mopped. We got clean bedding on one occasion and new bath towels.
The breakfast choice was plentiful, choice of cooked, lots of cereals, pastries, fruit, cheese and cold meats, pancakes, coffees, teas and juices. You were spoilt for choice.
There is a snack bar during the day and two restaurants on site, an Italian and a steak restaurant which we didn’t eat in.
The hotel sits around the Marina which is lovely and there are plenty of other restaurants within easy walking distance to eat at.
Plenty of boat trips to do around the area and you can get the Water Taxi across the river to Ferragudo which is really pretty.
I would also recommend doing the River trip with Alvor Boat trips on Get Your Guide to Silves. It was a lovely leisurely trip up the river and you get either lunch or dinner on the way back. Silves is exceptionally pretty to visit.

Beautiful location and views, gorgeous food and excellent service from the two gentleman who served us. If I came back I would definitely return to this restaurant. The food was delicious.

Back for or second holiday here, last being in 2023.
There’s a reason it’s the only holiday destination hotel we’ve ever returned to. The views and location are just perfect, being on the marina is just wonderful. The location is a great base. Easy to walk into Portimao or Praia da Rocha. Or if going further afield, drive, grab an Uber, river taxi or boat tour.
Last time we stayed at the smaller separate part of the hotel, this time in the main hotel and requested a marina view. Waking up and seeing the marina, and swallows flying around is wonderful.
All of the staff are polite, friendly and go above and beyond for you. They really make your stay that bit more special. The evening bar staff are so welcoming, allowing us to practice our Portuguese and helping with phrases.
We’ve eaten twice in the Italian restaurant, both times the meal and wine were high quality. The waiting staff are fantastic, very friendly and attentive. The portion sizes are huge too, I’ve not once been able to finish my plate!
Breakfast is always great, very good choice of food and drink. Again the harbour view makes it a great place to start your day.
The pool bar is rather pricey, but again it’s very good food and large portions.
The pool is salt water, which personally I prefer.
The hotel is a little tired looking in places and could do with a lick of paint, but I’m not on holiday to nitpick at paint or grouting. The rooms are very clean, and the beds are huge and comfy.
A nice touch is if your room doesn’t need cleaning you can put a sign on your door, which they’ll exchange for a free drink per occupant at the bar.
When in time we’re back in Portimao we’ll definitely be making it a third time stay here.
