The train station can be reached within a 15-minute walk.
In the south-facing garden, guests can enjoy the sun that warms the pool's fresh water and, at the same time, light the historic scenary and the landscapes around. In the restaurants, it is possible to taste several delicious dishes prepared and, after that, it is possible to enjoy a beautiful view over Tavira's city in a local pub. Another wonderful holiday in Maria Nova Hotel excellent service with amazing staff apart from three miserable staff on reception Tiago is brilliant on Reception and Luis is the most charming and lovely person who runs The Restaurant Breakfast is superb a great location and a well run hotel The carpets in the bedroom corridors need shampooing and sunshades around the pool need an update

Good base in Tavira
Tavira lovely place, lots of character and not mass tourism, this hotel great location, convenient for centre and restaurants. Popular with golfers and mainly mature British (like us!), very relaxed, nice atmosphere, adults only. Seems recently refurbished. High standards of cleanliness. Very pleasant Portugese staff in breakfast restaurant who work hard. We were travelling independently and pricey (last few rooms) but seems package holiday options here could be best value, if you book in advance.

A chilled adult holiday in a lovely hotel in a picturesque old town.
A lovely hotel set in a great location. We wanted a chilled holiday and that’s exactly what we got. It’s a hotel for adults and a relaxed vibe. The hotel and rooms are decorated nicely and very clean. We had breakfast and there was a great selection of cuisines and the piano player was a nice touch. The rooftop cocktail bar (sometimes with live music) was great. We all had a massage and it’s one of the best massages I’ve had (she worked out the tension knots!). We never had an issue getting sun loungers whatever time of the day. Tavira is lovely and picturesque historic town. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from and a great brunch place over the river. I also recommend one the Jeep tours to see off the beaten track.

Nice hotel with great staff the pool area is good as are the breakfasts. However we booked half board and found the evening meals disappointing definitely not 4 star the barbecue in particular was very poor.

Its a 10/10 from us.
We enjoyed a fabulous 10 day holiday here. We enjoyed a warm welcome with a glass of bubbles, our room was ready at 2pm so we only had an hour to wait. We took advantage of the pool bar to enjoy a toastie and beer
The room was comfortable and kept immaculately clean by housekeeping.
We ate three times at the rooftop restaurant. It was excellent except for the final meal. My steak was very overcooked but I was too chilled out to complain.
We used Ubers whilst we were there which worked out way cheaper than hiring a car. We visited the island and two other beaches which were fantastic for a day out.
We absolutely love this part of Portugal and are looking to explore the area more in the next year.
The incline to the hotel was a challenge but it only takes 150 steps so I used that as a motivation each evening when we returned from all the amazing local restaurants. The food has been amazing in Tavira. Just that one lower level meal but that's ok, the rest made up for it.
Finally the staff! They were friendly, attentive and lovely. On my birthday I had a bottle of wine and cake delivered so my hubby sang to me whilst I opened the bottle. I had two massages by Elaine; a leg massage then an 80 minute lymphatic drainage which really helped me. A lovely therapist who is great at her job. Thank you.
Id give this holiday a big 10 out of 10 even with the not so good steak. The rest definitely made up for it.
