Comfortable and clean. Great service
Room 423, corner room so large windows and balcony on 2 sides. Nice sea view Comfortable bed and pillows. Crisp white sheets. Towels too small though. Room spacious, light and airy. Great walk in shower. Always hot and good pressure. Very clean. We went fully inclusive. Excellent dining room service, polite, helpful and efficient staff. However, Food was not good. Bland and repetitive. Sandwiches and snacks beside pool at 3.30 pm every day. Outdoor pool small and not good for swimming but only for cooling off. No garden area to speak of. Decent live music in bar area every night. Overall, good hotel let down by quality of food and outdoor pool area. Good views from sun terrace though

Good first impressions
First impression of hotel is that the reception and bar areas have been decorated and furnished to a high standard. The hotel fronts onto a road and has apartment blocks in close proximity. It is about a thirty minute walk from the centre of Funchal. The hotel does have a shuttle bus that can be booked in advance however we took the local buses which stop close to the hotel. Our room was spacious and clean. Disappointingly there was a kettle in the room but only tea and sugar sachets which were not replenished. The towels were worn and discoloured when wet and there was only a shower gel in the bathroom. Breakfast is served in an area which feels like a canteen, very crowded with tables close together. The food is as expected with a range of cold and hot options however the cooked food is at best. I would say that first impressions walking into the hotel is that it looks like a four star hotel but for the overall guest experience I would say it is more a three star hotel.
Wow great Hotel
From checking in to leaving the hotel the staff were friendly/efficient. We found the hotel ideally located as were were bed & breakfast there were numerous bars & restaurants within 5/10 min walk. The breakfast at the Hotel was excellent with a great selection of food and coffees. We had a room overlooking the sea and drinks on the balcony watching the sunset was great. The Lido is within 10 min walk which is well worth a visit as was the cable car & Ronaldo museum. There is a free bus service offered by the hotel which we used also the local buses which stop nearby. Evening entertainment was good with a variety of acts.We will definitely be back

Perfectly located, warmly welcoming — Madeira at its best
A fantastic stay from start to finish. The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome, friendly, attentive, and always happy to help with local tips. The location is superb — just steps from the sea, with stunning views right on your doorstep. It's also perfectly placed for exploring the island's sights, and there are some great bars and restaurants within easy walking distance for evening drinks or dinner. Comfortable, well-located, and genuinely warm hospitality — we'd happily return and would recommend it without hesitation.

Fantastic hotel in a superb area.
I absolutely loved every minute staying at The Alto Lido hotel, Funchal. The location of the hotel is fantastic, our room had a stunning view of the Atlantic. It is right next to the apartments that Ronaldo bought his mother. The rooms are large, air-conditioning is excellent and needed. A lovely atmosphere in the main bar, very relaxing. Indoor and outdoor swimming pools and fitness room and spa. We upgraded to a sea view room and we were glad that we did. Restaurants within a very short distance from the hotel also. Value for money is excellent, I would love to go back.
