With its idyllic location and spectacular views out over the Promenade, the Pestana Promenade Hotel is one of the first-choice destinations for so many holidaymakers to Madeira. And it's not just the views that impress. With so much to discover – both at the hotel and in Madeira itself, it's a great choice for holidaymakers of all kinds. There's plenty to see and do, there are plenty of exciting opportunities for trips out, and for relaxing back at the hotel. In short, this is a location – and a hotel – with so much more to offer.
All the guide books will tell you about the promenade. It stretches all the way to the beach at Praia Formosa, and is the very best way to take in the sights, stopping for a drink or a meal along the way.
And because it's set on the promenade, the Pestana Promenade Hotel offers outstanding views of the ocean too. You can look out for miles, from the promenade and the hotel. No wonder this is such a popular place to stay.
But it's not just about the location. The Pestana Promenade Hotel offers a wealth of facilities and amenities, making it one of the region's very best-equipped hotels with games room, gym, and spa with Jacuzzi . One of the main attractions is undoubtedly the pool – one of biggest in Madeira. You can while away many hours dipping in and out of the pool, enjoying a drink and a snack, and making the most of the sun and the laid-back holiday lifestyle.
Rooms at the Pestana Promenade Hotel are similarly enticing. All of the ensuite side sea view rooms benefit from a private balcony or terrace, so that you can make the most of those holiday views. All rooms are air conditioned, and come with cable TV, phone, safe deposit box, hairdryer, and mini fridge. Full sea view and superior sea view rooms and suites are available at a supplement.
You'll also enjoy a wide range of dining options. Of course there are lots of bars, restaurants and lovely little tavernas to discover out and about in Funchal, as well as a fine selection of bars and restaurants at the Pestana Promenade Hotel. Great food, wonderful views and a lovely laid-back atmosphere make dining 'en hotel' quite a special experience.
The Pestana Promenade Hotel is one of Madeira's most enduringly popular hotels. Its pool, its views and its friendly ambience will certainly ensure that it's always going to draw the crowds – and the plaudits.
Situated in front of the spectacular promenade that stretches from Lido to Praia Formosa, the Pestana Promenade offers stunning views to the ocean. The hotel's enviable location is complemented by a great range of facilities including one of the largest pool areas on Madeira.
Hotel was generally good. We booked a classic room which was good value and had a sea view. Note that this is sort of in the basement directly on the promenade and therefore metal shutters are required for security at night. Beds were on the firm side and sink was small. Noticed a few small ants in the bathroom and toilet flush didn't always work properly and took a long time to reset.
Pool area was nice and had no issue finding a sunbed at anytime of the day. Lunch at the poolside cafe was OK but quite limited and sometimes what we ordered wasn't quite what we received. Breakfast was also good with fresh pancakes and eggs. We noticed some flies in the bread section on a couple of the days but staff were generally good at keeping the area tidy.
Overall would recommend but would go for a better room next time. Several good restaurants nearby.
Booked for a 7 night stay via on the beach. Have complained twice to the hotel and theor 'ombudsman' to no avail.
Issues Unfortunately, our experience fell well below the standard we expected from a 4-star hotel.
On arrival, our allocated room had a very strong sewage smell, making it unpleasant to stay in. We reported this immediately and appreciate that we were moved to another room. However, having to wait in this disgusting smell was a very poor start to the holiday.
Throughout our stay we also noticed several other issues that affected our experience:
Dirty crockery and glasses were regularly left in the corridors for long periods.
The flooring in the hallway was cracked and in poor condition, creating an untidy and poorly maintained appearance.
The door leading to the promenade was frequently left open or unsecured, raising concerns about security.
the designated gluten free toaster should have a clear sign beside/in front of it. Cross contamination is a serious health concern for those with coeliac disease or an intolerance
Overall, the standard of maintenance and housekeeping did not reflect what we would expect from a hotel of this rating - our pool towels were removed on the second day and not returned
We chose the Pestana Promenade based on its reputation and expected a relaxing, high-quality holiday. While some members of staff were helpful, the number of issues we experienced significantly detracted from our stay. We previously stayed at a Pestana hotel in Cascais which was beautifully maintained and deserving of the 4 star rating. Our stay there was actually cheaper than our stay at Pestana Promenade so we expected the same level of excellence - which it did not achieve.
The pool is nice. The view from the pool is nice. Breakfast was fine.
Good hotel, good location. Close to the restaurants
Very friendly staff can’t do enough for you, we stayed B&B which is just right loads of places near by to eat and drink, had dinner one night at the hotel which had a good selection, first time in Madeira but won’t be the last, if you get. A chance visit the Lido bar up the hill excellent
Our 5th visit to this wonderful hotel. Each year is always beyond expectations. The reception staff are always very helpful with queries and advice down to even printing bus timetables off for us. Every year we look forward to meeting Dalila who gives her full attention to our needs and greets us so warmly at breakfast which we would add is excellent with a vast range of food and drink. All the staff go above and beyond to make sure everything is kept to a high standard. The outside area and gardens are very well kept. We cannot recommend this hotel enough and look forward to returning again in 2027 Many thanks Kath and Brian Crowther
