No Air Conditioning anywhere in hotel - Bedrooms have ceiling fan- which just moves hot air around, Bathroom extractor fan didn't work- making bathroom very hot humid , adding to the unpleasant hot humid temperature in our room Room above restaurant, noise of plates being loaded into dishwasher, balcony with NO view only glass roof to look out on Toilet paper- worse that that you had at school- rough Some towels almost threadbare, Bedsheets - rough/ scratchy
Went half board - eat out after 3 attempts -
Wednesday vegetarian night, no none veg starters looks of lentils and beans dishes , only chicken drumsticks and 1 fish dish, for non vegetarians
I don't eat chips- but if you want them not available in the restaurant evening meal
No ice cream either
Breakfast Fruit options very good, as was bread options, Cooked breakfast items not great- kept to fruit and bread - no omelettes
Part of hotel on time share option- which I was told are being knocked down next year Would give this 2 stars- it would have had a grand interior in its day,
Also our door curtains where filthy, marked and stained, we spilt water on floor. wiped it up and our clean cloth was then dirty - not good
Positive point, the women staff at pool bar very friendly- Hotel does not take cash Watch for service charge in restaurant- was told it was printed on drinks menu, but we never saw a drinks menu being handed out in restaurant
We stayed for 7 nights at Pestana Village Garden, booking our holiday through Loveholidays. The hotel is officially rated as 4-star, although in our opinion it is closer to 3.5 stars and would definitely benefit from some renovation and updating.
The location is quite good, with easy access to Funchal. When we arrived, we were given a room with a mountain view, but unfortunately it was directly above the kitchen. Having read previous reviews, we already knew that there could be quite a lot of noise from the kitchen from around 4 a.m., so we asked reception if we could change rooms. There was no problem at all, and we were given a room on the quieter side of the hotel with an ocean view. We really couldn't have asked for anything better and were absolutely delighted with the new room.
The room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the staff were friendly. There is no air conditioning, but there is a fan above the bed, which was enough for us even though the weather was quite hot. We were initially worried that the room might feel stuffy, but fortunately this wasn't a problem. Towels and cleaning were provided whenever we requested them, which worked well for us.
The food was tasty and the choice was just right for us. The only issue was that the buffet area felt quite small for such a large hotel, so it could get crowded at busy times.
One thing we hadn't quite expected was the number of pigeons. We had read about them in previous reviews, but thought they mainly walked around the outdoor terrace. In reality, they also wandered into the restaurant. They didn't bother us personally, but we saw them jumping onto tables outside, with guests having to shoo them away. For that reason, we always chose to eat indoors. We joked that perhaps the pigeons were under contract instead of the vacuum cleaners! :)
The hotel's parking is available for €15 per day, which would have cost us €105 for the week. We felt this was quite expensive, so we chose to park on the street in the blue parking zone instead. Parking there is paid from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is free on Sundays, and we could conveniently pay through an app. As we went out sightseeing every day, we only needed to pay for a few hours in the morning and evening, so parking cost us around €25 for the entire stay — a much better option for us.
The hotel grounds are pleasant and full of greenery, although be prepared for mosquitoes.
Our biggest disappointment was the entertainment. The programme was very limited and, in our opinion, rather boring, so we didn't make use of it every day.
Overall, we were happy with our stay. The room change made a big difference, and having a quiet room with a beautiful ocean view was definitely one of the highlights. The hotel could use some renovation and updating, but the good location, friendly staff, comfortable room and tasty food made our week enjoyable.
Locations is fine for us as we don’t mind walking. It’s just outside of the main Funchal area. Our rooms are adequate for our needs slightly old fashion but durable. Good vale for money and kept clean by amazing staff. Our location was very quiet only noisy neighbours above. We have a balcony for breakfast with garden views.
We had such a wonderful time at Pestana Village Hotel in Madeira! The grounds and lush gardens are beautiful, creating a relaxing, tropical atmosphere right from the moment you arrive. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help with a smile. The facilities and rooms were excellent, making our entire trip smooth and enjoyable. One of the absolute highlights of our stay was the outdoor aqua gym in the swimming pool! It was so energetic, hilarious, and thoroughly entertaining—the instructor kept everyone laughing while giving us a fantastic workout under the sun. It added such a fun, upbeat vibe to the pool area! Highly recommended to anyone looking for a great balance of relaxation and fun. We would definitely stay here again!
Great location, lovely atmosphere, nice family rooms with big balconies. Lovely garden and pool area with many free sun beds always.
