We have been going to Pestana Village for the past 15 years and whilst the service etc is very good the property itself is looking tired and indeed is due to close for renovations as we understand it at the end of the year.
It is a pity that the photo shown on Tripadvisor is a photo of the adjoining hotel Miramar and NOT Pestana Village.
Pestana village has welcomed 3 generations of my family (me being the third) with open arms for years! My wife and I came on our honeymoon for the first time and all the staff have made our time here absolutely incredible! The reception staff are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable (Sofia especially) the bar staff are super friendly and make a fantastic sangria (manuel especially) and the trip organiser and liaison (Marcio) has bent over backwards to make our trip to Madeira contagious! All the staff at pestana village have collectively made our honeymoon a series of beautiful memories that we will never forget!
Probably would say more like a good 3* rather than 4*. Pros: Pestana village has an excellent location, close to Funchal centre and easy to walk in. Grounds of the hotel are lovely and green. Pool area spacious and plenty of sunbeds (although it was quiet when I was there) Staff on the whole were polite and professional Food was ok Room had a great view and was clean and comfortable Cons; Pool itself has mould growing on some parts of it which isn’t terribly nice Food: Not many gluten free options and often items weren’t labelled or incorrectly labelled Dining area had pigeons wandering around inside drinks weren’t added to room number (like almost every other hotel I’ve stayed in) so paying every time was annoying. Can’t see why they can’t be added to room bill. Hotel is quite dated - threadbare carpets in the hallways and quite a dated feel about the decoration Bathroom: dated, shower could only point out 1 angle so soaked the bathroom floor They ask things to be dried in the bathroom but that’s not feasible as too warm, much better to provide a drying rack on balcony wall. Beds uncomfortable (pillows great) towels and sheets had holes in them. Kitchenette unnecessary in the room (although fridge useful) Not enough plug sockets in helpful places. Had to unplug lamps to charge devices. USB sockets would have been a real bonus Surprised no tea/coffee provided in rooms, that is a staple for any hotel room. No air con!!!! Really surprised to only find a ceiling fan…. Ok for me as breeze through the balcony doors but if it was hotter it would have been hideous. I enjoyed my week on Madeira but for the price I paid I probably wouldn’t come back to this hotel unless updates made
The garden is incredible, flowers and the blooming tress it is indeed an eternal spring as we say in Poland, very peaceful and quite place for holidays. If it happens to you to forget your belongings (it was my case), don't worry, they will send it back to you
Great location, lovely atmosphere, nice family rooms with big balconies. Lovely garden and pool area with many free sun beds always.
