Great hotel with large rooms and beautiful garden areas
Enjoyed our return stay and looking forward to our already next booked stay. Hotel location good for restaurants nearby. Spacious studio rooms. Fridge (freezer compartment not good) and bed settee (seen better days and uncomfortable) need replacing. Daily efficient housekeeping. Grounds beautiful. Plenty of sun loungers no need to 'reserve'. Pool towels provided, policy is after loungers with towels on will be removed if unattended after 1 1/2 hrs. 40mins walk to Funchal (buses available at front of hotel). Go left out of hotel to go shopping to The Forum for various shops, about 15 mins walk. Suggest hotel tries to somehow get a very noisey bar/restaurant in area to ceáse after 11pm, spoils the ambience of area for sure.

Great stay
Just spent a week at The Residence, fantastic hotel. Great facilities, lovely swimming pools and gardens all very well maintained. The beds in the room were huge and very comfortable. Room service each day. There was a wide and varied choice at the buffet breakfast each morning and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Happy hour in the bars 5-6pm daily. Good location, not too far from the centre of Funchal.
Excellent experience
A wonderful hotel and the perfect place to unwind! The Residence in Funchal is a beautiful property that charms you from the moment you arrive. The buffet is fantastic with excellent variety, and the service easily deserves the maximum rating—the staff is genuinely helpful and attentive. It truly is an ideal spot for a relaxing holiday. Highly recommended!
A lovely hotel experience - we would stay here again
The Hotel Residence is a lovely hotel and the staff are very willing, approachable and friendly. We did not like our room allocation on our first night (we had booked a holiday there for 10 days on a half-board basis) as our room overlooked the road and was quite noisy when sitting outside on the balcony. So I told them at Reception the next day and they very kindly moved us to another room/apartment which had a lovely garden and sea view and we were very happy.
