Would definitely recommend
I had a delightful stay at Kaktus and it definitely exceeded my expectations. Yes, the décor is something out of the 70s in places but not in a run down wanting to escape kind of way. Helped by the fact that one of the cleanest hotels that I've ever stayed in.
Rooms spacious, free safe, and good wifi. Had a comfortable night's sleep in a large set of twin beds. Again, room and bathroom very clean and well presented. Yes the room isn't the most modern (green pine furniture), but spacious and somehow it works
Everything you needed in the bathroom, toiletries, hair dryer for the missus. Toilet flush was powerful which you could hear from other rooms but to be honest I'm a light sleeper but had no problems getting a good night's sleep. Except for the second night when a young couple were, how shall I put it, very enthusiastically getting to know each other. Luckily his performance was more of a sprint than a marathon so still got a good night's sleep. Apart from the occasional scraping of wooden chairs across hard floors (why not invest in cushioned pads!) noise from other rooms was minimal.
Food was generally good, except that as a veggie I was a little let down. Labelling was not great with meat dishes not marked as such. I tucked into what looked like a nice tomato salad only to find out it had sea food in it. They did do great pizzas but on a couple of occasions three types of meat ones! Also fried mushrooms for breakfast with had been covered in pancetta. I should add though that I didn't go hungry and often ate too much. Apart from breakfast (I was half board) no drinks were complimentary, which included hot or cold water for an evening (I would have liked a tea with dessert).
That said, the staff were very helpful (restaurant and kitchen) and would go out of their way to help, including organising a veggie pizza and also requests for the picnic breakfast we had on our last day to replace the fact that we had to leave early.
I did like Albir, but was grateful for a car for 3 days to explore around (Albirent). Albir is low-rise compared to its neighbour and the pebble beach might be off-putting, but the sea was clean, and its southern tip finer pebble allowing you to get in and out easier without the need for beach/sea shoes. A less mobile person might struggle to get in and out of the sea at times.
Note that this hotel does seem to attract an older crowd (Saga) and I count myself as not far off that, which made it more unfortunate to get such enthusiastic neighbours.
Just bad
100 sunbeds in a 500-600 capacity hotel. Out of words. Stay away.

Holiday with friends
Hotel is in a prime spot for visiting Albir, Altea, Calpe and Benidorm. Our room had been modernised and was excellent. Fab view of the beach and the sea. Restaurant had a good selection of food at each meal time. The hotel even allowed you to swap your mealtimes when Half Board. Plenty of sunbeds around the pool area, just wish there had been more umberellas available. The pool is only small in the front of the hotel, there was a small jacuzzi pool available too. A lovely area to relax. Enteryainment in the evening was more for the European guests who enjoy the ballroom scene rather than the slightly younger guests but plenty of bars and restaurants to keep you entertained locally. We would definitely visit again.

Hotel Kaktus was an excellent choice the views where stunning the hotel clean tidy the staff where very helpful we found it very peaceful at night great variety of food we will definitely be visiting again in the future.

Comfortable stay
Location was amazing, seconds away from the beach, lots of bars and restaurants close. Altea a 30 minute walk away. Benidorm a 25 minute bus ride, bus stop at the back of the hotel.
Check in is not until 3pm and our flights were at 6am, we were not aware of this until we arrive at the hotel but they checked us in an hour early, when we went to the room it was only made up for 2 people and there were 3 of us, when I asked at reception they told us this was because they had let us have our room early but it took until 9pm until somebody came to make the sofa bed up and give extra towels. Also had issues the following days when the room was cleaned, only left 2 towels when there we 3 of us, stopped asking in the end.
Rooms outdated but we knew that before we went, air con noisy but still had a comfortable sleep. Would be nice to have a light on the balcony as I like to sit out and read at night.
Entertainment was very much aimed at the more senior guests and was very dance orientated.
Food - breakfast excellent and lots of options although food often lukewarm, especially the beans, we arrived when they opened and the beans were always cold. Lunch, limited options but always found something to eat. Evening meal more options, pizza was great and always lots of meat and fish options. Plenty of fresh bread, fruit and salad.
Pools - bottom pool people queue and you always get a subbed if you’re there at 10am however if you go in the afternoon it is difficult to get a sunbed, also not many trolleys available. Pool quite small for the hotel capacity. Rooftop pool also small and it is very hot up there and not much shade so always spare beds, could do with more sun beds and umbrellas up there and more people would use it.
Drinks - quite expensive at the hotel, better to go to the supermarket around the corner (not the one on the beachfront) and take back to put in the hotel fridge.
Beach - we were worried about the stones on the beach but we actually preferred it as didn’t get sand everywhere. Water shoes would be better however we did manage without, just a little bit painful when getting in and out the sea. Didn’t pay for beds as beds were 7 euros each and then the same for a broken. Cheaper to buy your own broken from one of the shops and take it apart and to put I. Your suitcase or leave it there (depending how often you will use the beach).
Beach towels are not included so take your own or you can hire them from the hotel for 20 euros each.
Overall Albir was a lovely stay and I would stay again, hopefully they will update the hotel soon as it is very tired.
