Hotel La Fonda

Unfortunately we had a poor experience here. The hotel itself looks nice enough and our room 208 was spacious and comfortable with towels changed daily. The problem is our room was beside a cupboard which was used by all staff - the cleaning cupboard but also appeared to keep everything in there for the hotel and the staffs personal belongings etc. the doors slam noisily so we were subjected to continual door slams which actually vibrated through the wall of our room making it impossible to rest. The cleaners also were in and out shouting and clattering carts up and down the corridor outside from 7.30 each day. It was impossible to nap in the afternoon also because of this- it was continual. Also the church bells next door to hotel ring every 15 MINUTES from 7am until 12 midnight so sleep was terrible. I would recommend asking for a room away from the courtyard because of this. Breakfast was a shambles. The first day we stood and were ignored for 15 mins before asking if we could sit down- there was one cook and one waitress working. There was no explanation of how breakfast worked or if we could order hot food despite seeing others getting it- the amount of food being sent back was also unbelievable to those that were lucky enough to manage to order some. There were dirty tables , no glasses for juice, no juice, no knives butter or napkins left as nothing was being cleaned up. It appeared to be a free for all and People were having to sit at dirty tables and move the used dishes onto other tables themselves. We ended up only having fruit as it was all that was decent and available and gave up on breakfast after 3 days of this. Apart from the blonde waitress who did lunch and the bar and the dark haired waitress and bar staff the staff were very disinterested and unfriendly. Despite advertising 3 bars - none of them were open. The bar advertising happy hour did nice cocktails but only appeared to open for 3 hours a day. Closed by 9.30/10pm so no chance of a nightcap or a drink in the hotel at night. Service was painfully slow. The waiter Antonio who was either new or just terrible at his job was rude- could not muster a smile and actually ignored the British people waiting at the bar to serve Spanish people that walked in afterwards despite the queue. Everything was made to feel a hassle. On check out we were asked if we were checking in - such was the lack of interaction the staff had with its customers in a relatively small hotel. The mini bar was never restocked despite allegedly being promised this every day. They had no idea what we had consumed and I had to tell them at check out or we would not have paid anything - I am just honest. The spa pool appeared to be empty of water and at check in there was no discussion around breakfast, using the spa when the restaurants would be open etc or any other helpful info. I do not understand why the entire hotel appeared closed with no pool bar or other bar open There was no music or atmosphere and the whole place felt like a deserted ghost town that was about to close. Overall it’s a nice looking hotel but so so noisy and the service was terrible. I would not return.

Room for improvement needed. Let's start with the very good, Sarah and Sandra are most lovely ladies and a great asset to the hotel. Food, 6/10 Choice for breakfast,3/10 Bedroom, 6/10 Swimming pool (zero shade due to no umbrella's, 3/10 Staff understanding English, 2/10 Location, 9/10 Value for money, 7/10 Overall condition of hotel, 7/10

Would we stay here again? Unfortunately it's a no.
