Torremolinos

This historic hotel is situated just across the promenade in Torremolinos, in the quiet area between La Carihuela and Solymar districts a 10 to 15 minute walk from the centre of the popular resort. Links to the public transport are available within 100 metres and the Malaga airport is just 20 minutes' drive away. Overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, all of the dining options of the venue come with an added bonus of wonderful views. Regardless if one is enjoying a meal at the buffet restaurant, signature cocktail in the bar or snack in the garden, the sea will always be within his/hers gaze. The same holds true for the rooms, each of the well-appointed units comes with a balcony offering side or full sea views.

Second visit

Second visit, this time booking a junior sea view suite. Spotless hotel, all areas are kept clean and tidy. Lovely large room, nespresso machine with pods, mini fridge, waterfall shower, large bathroom, screened toilet area, lovely terrace and hot tub with views across the bay. Access to soft drinks, water, hot drinks, cakes, crisps and popcorn throughout the day, at 6pm tapas and wine are served and you can mingle with other guests in the Gold lounge if you wish. Staff very friendly, efficient, accommodating and hard working. The food is varied and fresh, egg station, various roast and grilled meats (I don’t eat meat, husband does), plenty of fish, prawns, fresh breads, fresh honey on the frame (use the spoon to scoop don’t scrape the honey frame!), cereals, milks all types, cakes, vegetables, fruits, salads, paella, roast dinners, chips, hash browns, bacon/meats hot/cold/ British and local, beans, pasta (behind the counter for children), yogurts, ice creams, sprinkles, sweet station, fresh juices, coffees. I’m a difficult person to please with food (and often have tummy issues on holiday ( but never here) the options here are very good and it’s fresh and I feel safe eating anything. It’s a lovely area, the beach is literally across a path from the hotel and there are loads of bars and restaurants. Lovely walk to the marina around 15 mins away, boat rides, day trips and Benalmadena (more lively). The pools are good, able to cool off and have a swim and the children’s pool is very good. You can’t really do lengths that’s important to you as the pools aren’t huge and there are no slides. It’s a quieter, more relaxed vibe. The roof top beach bar Ondina is also very good and chilled. You are able to get a good night sleep here, no loud club noise. We enjoyed the holiday and would definitely return. The rooms are immaculately cleaned, fresh bedding and towels every day, the cleaners are also a pleasure, very hardworking. The hotel waitressing/waiter staff are also knowledgable about wine and will amuse your children (thank you Faly), though our child was a bit shy! It’s a beautiful hotel, photos from the balcony/room uploaded.

Thank you Raquel Espejo for exceeding our special requests.

Nice hotel and location

Medplaya Hotel Pez Espada Torremolinos: we stayed here for 7 days. The hotel is in a great location; the back gate of the hotel opens onto the main promenade walkway and beach, and a short walk away from Benalmadena. There are numerous different restaurants along the promenade, so the hotel is well placed. The check-in was good; the receptionist was friendly and explained the times of breakfast and dinner. We were on the second floor with a side sea and pool view room, which was quite spacious. The king-size bed was comfortable, and we slept well. The bed linen and towels were of a good standard. The room had a fridge with tea and coffee making facilities. The wardrobe was quite large with hanging space and shelves. The safe in the wardrobe was free to use, which made a nice change. The balcony did overlook the pool area it was spacious with a table and chairs and a small pull-out hanging rail. The bathroom again was adequate, with a large walk-in shower. There were two shower points, one hand-held and a very good rain shower. The bathroom had shower gel, hand wash and shampoo along with hand and large bath towels. The room was clean and serviced daily by friendly, efficient staff; sometimes the room was cleaned while we went for breakfast. Just a small point if you like an early night, our room 224 was just above the stage for the entertainment; the entertainment finished at 11 pm. The type of entertainment was mixed, as were the standards. The pool area was a small area, although the sunbed area did extend onto two terraces. We found the bottom terrace, which looked out onto the promenade, a bit too hot, as there seemed to be no or little breeze all area did have sun. Unfortunately, it was the usual sun beds claimed by towels (so if you want poolside, be up early to bag your loungers). It’s the ones who put towels on beds and then don’t use them.
There were areas to sit which were in the shade, or the main reception was always cooler. The restaurant was large and never had any trouble finding a table; the late breakfast time could get busy. Breakfast was fine with a very good selection of meats, salamis and cheeses. There was a good selection of cereals and cooked bacon, sausage, etc. The scrambled egg could be a little runny; the egg station was popular with guests choosing different omelettes, which made it hard to get a fried egg. Not sure about the carrots and sprouts at breakfast alongside the mushrooms. Dinner was a mixed bag the cooked food options on the whole was good but strange combinations the salad bar had a good selection the deserts also had a selection of different cakes the ice cream was very nice overall it was okay ( The only thing could be the heat of the food but its never red hot as some people like ) The bar service on a night could be a little on the slow side but I put this down to the waiters having at times to prepare the drinks. You can pay by card or cash and the prices were reasonable. We had a great holiday and would definitely return to the hotel. All the staff were efficient and friendly

Lots of good and some disappointing points. Therefore lower rating

Definitely get the junior suites. Spacious, jacuzzi on balcony and access to free hot and cold soft drinks all day with snacks and sweets. Free wine 6-7 and a warm tapas dish. However, they are tight with the wine, often none left and if lucky can ask for more. Food choices amazing, top quality ingredients and lots of choice. But not for children. Very limited. No fighting for food or sunbeds if you early enough. Fab location. Easy walk to the harbour. Beach bars book up so ensure you book ahead in advance as lunch menu of pay and go at hotel is limited and not the best food. Entertainment is 9.30-10.55 and pretty much just a female singer each night singing same songs. We would return but not year on year. Definitely needs to up the entertainment.

Fantastic Hotel but not for Children

We went as a family of 6, my husband and I, our two children, aged 4 and 8, and my husband’s parents.

The hotel itself is wonderful. We stayed in a beachfront junior suite, which was luxurious! It had a whirlpool on the balcony (the kids loved) and it was very spacious. Booking this included access to the Gold Lounge, which was a real bonus. Between 11-7 we had unlimited fizzy drinks in glass bottles; a tea and coffee machine; and snacks - crisps, popcorn and various cakes/pastries. The only downside was you had to consume them in the lounge and, as you can imagine, a 4 and 8 year old weren’t wanting to sit in there when there’s a pool outside! The man was more lenient in allowing us to take snacks out but the lady wasn’t! She was power driven sadly.

The breakfast was fantastic apart from the queuing for eggs, pancakes, omelettes. The evening meal was good but not so great for children as it was quite fancy.

The pool is nice, although could do with a clean and the children’s pool wasn’t fully functional (tipping buckets and sprinklers not all working). The lifeguard Marcos was a godsend. He is fantastic with children. He was the only entertainment they had during the day! Playing with them and helping them. 10/10. He was especially good with my 4 year old, who is autistic. He really cared. I think the mixed reviews about him are because he didn’t want adults jumping in the water and was worried the ball games might end up with children being hit/hurt. Totally understandable. The other lifeguard was on his phone most of the day!

The thing the hotel lacks most is entertainment for children. There is nothing for them. No clubs, no disco, no mascot. My two were ok but we ended up out of the hotel every evening. Hardly anyone watched the singer they had.

I’d definitely rate this hotel as an adult only place, or a hotel for quiet and relaxation. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want kids everywhere, but things were definitely missing for them.

Relaxing trip

Nice clean hotel, location excellent, food 8/10 Most of staff nice. Not sure I would say it’s for kids though and the lifeguard was very inconsistent with pool rules telling me and kids not to jump in on 2nd day which ruined pool vibe a little, then other days he was throwing little kids in.
