Occidental Jandia Mar

This hotel is definitely not a 4* it’s a 3* at a push! There’s 3 things nice about the hotel is breakfast, pour your own drink stations and the beds. Be prepared to walk if your room is not next to the pool, we were in block 3 floor 2 and omg it was a mission, it took a 6 minute walk from our hotel room to the pool and it’s all hills, stairs and lifts.

All other food is poor quality, repetitive and everything that should be warm is cold and everything that should be cold is warm. The whole place is unclean, paint peeling off all over, glasses left out everywhere from the night before, the only time the restaurant would be clean is breakfast time, mouldy slush machines, dirty floor tiles, cig tips left on floor, dirty/broken sun beds and you could barely tell your room had been cleaned. So many things are broken/don’t work properly, like the pool tables, air hockey table, ping pong table, sun beds, broken tiles everywhere, loads of mosaic tiles missing out of both pools, broken sunbeds, wonky tables. Also the staff are rude and don’t care especially if you’re not Spanish, I love tipping the staff when I go on holiday but they made it impossible to be able to tip, the majority of them were so rude and didn’t even acknowledge you were there!

To be honesty I think it comes down to a lack of staff, the hotel is massive and there’s no where near enough staff, the years have definitely gotten the better of the hotel, as you can see it did have potential but it’s just under staffed/under maintained. I can tell it used to be a beautiful hotel it’s just a shame.

Don’t get we wrong we had a good holiday but we definitely won’t be going back.

Wasn’t a good experience. It took 2 hours to check in 3 families. Our room was not ready which was fine.

We paid extra for a sea view room. I have uploaded a photo, the view was of the block in front but we were told that it was sea view because of the sea was behind that block, even though we could not see it.

Reception staff then seemed to go out of their way to make our stay difficult. Each time we left the room our key card would be blocked so we would have to go to reception and waiting in the usual long eye for between 10-40 mins usually to be seen. I am 6 months pregnant with twins so it was hard to stand in the heat for this long. They would then release the key. Our room was 3111 it was a good 10 min walk from reception so this was a really pain. They then wanted us to pay again for the room which we had paid for as a package through on the beach who were awful. They said you pay again and we will refund you if we’re wrong. We didn’t but the male manager Santiago was very threatening it was just awful.

Our room was dated, bathroom door blown, cracked tiles, dirty sealant but cleaners kept it clean. The room was for 3 but we just had two single beds pushed together. We didn’t complain again.

The aircon is really not worth having it’s really old and doesn’t work just a light brease that didn’t cool the room. They also have the old ceiling fan.

Food was fine, we didn’t experience any raw foods like other reviews.

Entertainment was ok in nights but there’s just one bar up and one down so there’s long ques for drinks.

Pools nice and big. Sunloungers were comfy. We only had one broken one. It is a case of put the towel down at breakfast though.

There’s a lot of different nationalities at the hotel, lots of Spanish which are usually splashing everyone in the pool etc but weren’t too bad.

If you’ve booked already don’t panic it’s ok just rough around the edges and reception is a nightmare but if you haven’t booked I would definitely recommend going elsewhere.

Location wise it’s just on a hill the beach is long straight and open.
