- Riu Papayas

This fantastic hotel offers comfortable accommodation in the heart of Playa del Inglés, on the island of Gran Canaria, being the perfect base for those who wish to sunbathe by the seashore and find their balance between body and soul, as well as for those who want to discover the city centre. At this hotel, guests can escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life thanks to its great location, as it is surrounded by plenty of entertainment and dining options and nearby to interesting places such as Paseo Costa Canaria coastal path for leisurely walks. All guest rooms feature modern facilities as well as a private balcony. Visitors may relax at the fresh water swimming pool with a solarium terrace and they have the opportunity to taste delicious culinary specialities at the three restaurants of the hotel.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We had a great stay at Riu Papayas this August. The location is great, perfectly situated between the Yumbo and Kasbah centres, and not too far a walk to the beach (although the hotel provides free shuttles).
The selection of food was great, with something different each day to suit everyone and the drink selection was plentiful.
The room was large, modern and very clean with daily cleans and fresh towels if needed.
All staff were super friendly and welcoming.
Considering it being in the school holidays, we never struggled to get a Sunbed at around 9:30am each day in the area with morning shade, but those in the sun filled up early. Many were also reserved with towels for the full day but left empty which was a shame for those who were looking for one.
Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel!
It’s becoming a habit, but every trip to Spain and the Canary Islands over the last 5 years now has been with Riu, they are always reliable with fantastic hotels, clean, fantastic food, great entertainment and very friendly staff! Looking forward to coming back in October! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
One week with the family Can't fault this hotel. Everything was fine. It's definitely a strong 4.5/5. Would definitely come back. You have nothing to worry about,it's clean, good food.just book it.
Let me firstly say the people working at the hotel were amazing from the incredibly hard working bar staff, the friendly people in the restaurants, always happy reception and the room cleaners.
The hotel room was clean and spacious, the location was 15mins from the beach, supermarket next door and the daytime entertainers were very friendly and engaging, throughout the day they kept kids and adults entertained for long periods.
The main buffet was ok and the chefs were very visible and welcoming but the mass production of food was not of 4* quality but it was the speciality restaurants that caused the most concern.
The Spanish restaurant offered a sea bass where the dish turned up raw and certain foods were not cooked right through.
Due to the people service, I have to score the resort a four but you need to review the food products for mass servings because we have been to two others this year and they have been of higher quality - palladium group.
Well done on the hiring of some excellent people, they deserve a mention.
Most things about the hotel were perfectly OK — nothing particularly memorable, good or bad. Unfortunately, the smoking situation in the entertainment area was very memorable.
Despite there being designated smoking areas and presumably some fairly simple rules about where people can smoke, in practice the entire entertainment area seemed to operate as one giant smoking lounge. Cigarette smoke was absolutely everywhere, including around families and children, and quite a few guests appeared to treat the smoking-area rules as more of a loose suggestion than an actual rule.
We complained to the hotel, only to be told that there wasn't much they could do about it. Which is a slightly baffling response when we're talking about your hotel and your rules. Apparently the smoking rules are more of a decorative feature.
It's particularly frustrating because the entertainment area is otherwise where families are supposed to relax and enjoy the evening.
So, if you're considering this hotel, especially with children, be prepared to partake in some second hand smoking.
A shame, because aside from this, the hotel was generally fine. But when the choice is between breathing someone else's cigarette smoke during the evening entertainment or not enjoying the entertainmentat all, I'd rather not have to make that choice on holiday.
