Sandos Atlantic Gardens - Adults Only

We stopped at the hotel for 7 nights in a bungalow at the back of the tennis courts and fairly close to the pool. We had not stopped there before. The accommodation was fairly clean however it did smell musty. This may have been because there is no extraction fan when taking a shower or the gutter from the roof that looked like it had deteriorated for some considerable time. I squished two cockroaches in the room which I have never come across before. The air conditioning in the room was good. It was clear from the first day that there were no sunbeds available after about 7.30am. The only way of ensuring you got one was reserving one from 6am which is the last thing I wanted do when on holiday. There are not enough sunbeds to accommodate every one on the complex despite there been enough room for many more. It is disappointing that despite this been raised over and over again in guest reviews that the hotel has done nothing to improve this issue. The pool area was scruffy. There was litter left behind from several days and bird feathers everywhere from the resident cats keeping the collared dove population down. Contrary to what the management say in their responses it is not cleaned daily. Hosing it down one day a week is not acceptable. May be the role of ensuring the pool is tidy daily is given to the lifeguard. For five out of 7 days the lifeguards only task appeared to be changing the green flag to red when he left the pool and then back to green again on his return. The other lifeguard was slightly more active. There was an expletive written on one of the dirty glass screens near the paddling pool for all the days we were there. It was only on the last day they cleaned the screens after “someone” wrote “CLEAN ME” and a sad face on the screen in the dirt. The food was good. I enjoyed the freshly cooked selection of meats and paella. There was different fish every day. The restaurant staff were friendly and Vicktor is a credit to the hotel. He was so friendly and hard working. The restaurant and bar did lack effective air conditioning. In relation to the bar I found getting served was very quick. Beer and soft drinks can be served by yourself from the machine. The barman Diego was another very hard working person that was quick to serve and kept the bar area tidy. I tried the local brandy and whiskey and it was poor. The cocktails were awful.
The hot drinks machine gave a good selection which included different coffees and hot chocolate which was nice. There was entertainment on an evening. We had a couple of different singers which we enjoyed. There was bingo one evening and music on others that was played. I was disappointed that when we checked out that the staff member simply took the key off me and hung it up. He did not make any attempt to be friendly or ask if we had enjoyed our stay. May I suggest simply putting a drop off box for the keys if this is the check out engagement. All in all we had a nice relaxing time around the pool for the 7 days we were there. The food was good and drinks acceptable. The price was right for what we paid. I would not return due to the sunbed situation.

This was our second visit here. Great room where we could see the sea. Lovely food as before. Friendly, helpful staff. However this visit was spoiled by the sunbed chase. There aren’t enough beds for the number of guests. Towels are put on them in the middle of the night to ensure guests get one. The hotel have stopped people leaving towels and going out for the day but one poor couple only went to the organised afternoon activity and their towels plus a kindle were removed! Could they not get more beds and put them around the garden ? There was not entertainment on every night either and it wasn’t advertised on the boards. The singers that did come were very good but one evening a staff member did one game of bingo and that was it. Warning, if you want to go to the market in the marina, Wednesday or Saturday, expect a wait for a taxi. We waited over an hour in both directions and it was an exceptionally hot day. We still had a lovely holiday and met some great people.
