Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Location… Directly out of the back gate across the road is the beach. Matagorda to the left, Puerto Del Carmen to the right. Lots of shops snd entertainment. Close to the airport so a short transfer.
Hotel staff are fantastic, always helpful and rooms and grounds are lovely and clean. They are a credit to the hotel.
Rooms… we had a double room and a family room. Double room good, bathroom with hairdryer, shaver point, free shower gel and shampoo. Balcony, kettle with supplies. Wardrobe. Family room not as good. Living area with double sofa bed, tv, kettle with supplies, coffee table, wardrobe, long mirror. Separate Bedroom with wardrobe, tv, aircon unit and ceiling fan. The issue for us was no aircon in the living area. It was hot and it was uncomfortable for the person sleeping in living area on the sofa bed. Bathroom with shower, free shampoo and bodywash, hairdryer, shaver point.
Restaurant… nice food, good selection. Main restaurant, 2 speciality restaurants which you can book at reception or on the Riu App. 2 pool bars serving snacks, burgers, hotdogs etc. Bar in reception open 24hrs, can also grab a burger or hotdog.
Pools…. 2 big pools, the one near reception is the busiest it has the activity team. A quieter one over the other side of hotel. We did manage to get a sunbed at the quieter pool but usual towels on sunbeds early! The quieter pool has 2 sections and they did allow people to throw a small ball in one side of it so everyone happy.
2 tennis courts, basketball/football court, volleyball. 2 table tennis tables, pool table. Lots of other activities run by the activity team. Shop, small gym.
Courtesy room… you can book a courtesy room if you have a late flight. You book at reception and get a 30 min slot, there are 2 showers in each room, they get very hot!
Luggage room to store luggage.
We would definitely stay again if booking a double room but would not stay again in a family room due to there being no aircon or fan in the living area as it was an uncomfortable sleep.
The hotel has around 10 cats and they are everywhere!!!
The hotel is lovely and the staff are amazing, particularly the entertainment team. However, the cat situation is out of control and the hotel need to get control over it. Other Riu hotels have built specific areas for their cats and provided them with food, water and shelter to prevent all of the above. I suggest this hotel does the same!
Just got back from an amazing 10 night's in this hotel. Great location right on the beach. The busy Puerto del Carmen strip is a short taxi ride away, took about 5 to 10 mins. Never cost more than 5 euros! The hotel is huge, but well managed by the staff. The resturant is busy but plenty of tables available thanks to how quick the staff clear the tables. The food is typical of most all inclusive hotels and of decent quality. The pool areas are nice with plenty of sunbeds. All the staff at this hotel are very friendly and welcoming. Couldn't fault the hotel at all. Rooms cleaned daily and often leaving a sweet or chocolate on our pillow. Would recommend this hotel and would glady stay here again.
This was our second visit, but unfortunately it will be our last.
There were both positives and negatives during our stay. The food was generally good and the staff worked hard to keep everything well stocked. However, the menu became repetitive, with many dishes from the evening meal reappearing at lunchtime the following day. The dining area could also feel quite chaotic at times, with children running around the serving stations while guests were carrying hot plates of food, which didn't feel particularly safe.
Our room was located on the far side of the hotel, across the bridge, which made it quite a walk, especially when arriving with luggage and when going back and forth to the restaurant.
The soft drinks were often flat and not very cold. The beer was acceptable, but the cocktails were weak and mostly filled with ice. The entertainment was disappointing, feeling outdated, repetitive and lacking variety.
Our biggest issue was the sunbed situation. On the morning of our 6:30am transfer, we saw guests reserving sunbeds with towels before sunrise. On other days, entire sections of sunbeds were reserved but left unused for hours. The beds were also positioned very close together. Another major downside was the number of flies around the pool area. They were everywhere, making it difficult to relax without several landing on you at any given time.
The evening seating arrangements were also frustrating. If you wanted to sit outside, it was often difficult as many of the chairs had been moved indoors, leaving tables outside with no seating. Queue times at the bar could also be quite long.
There is a strong sewage smell at various points of the hotel!
That said, not everything was negative. Our housekeeping attendant was excellent and the room was cleaned to a high standard every day. The hotel itself was clean and well maintained, and the staff worked incredibly hard throughout our stay.
On several occasions, we also saw management walking around the hotel checking standards and speaking with staff, which was reassuring.
We can't compare this hotel to other Riu properties, but overall we felt it was overpriced for the experience provided. While there are certainly some strengths, the issues outweighed the positives for us, and we would not choose to return.
Stayed here for 1 week in July have to say it was worst hotel i ever stayed in food was horrible same thing every day room was basic bad smell in bathroom found cockroaches in bedroom ac not good and entertainment terrible very poor selection of drinks need I go on felt i needed a holiday when i got home
