Amazing Family Holiday – So Glad We Didn't Cancel!

Dates: 1 Week in July (All-Inclusive) | Party: Family of 4 (Kids aged 5 & 11) | Room: Junior Suite with Spa Access

I was so dubious about booking this hotel and checked the reviews constantly, debating several times whether to switch. I am SO glad we didn’t.

While I’d rate it closer to a 3-star plus rather than a true 4-star, we had the most amazing time and none of us wanted to leave!

Check-In & First Impressions We arrived around 11:00 AM, and to our delight, our room was ready early (check-in is usually 2:00 PM). The reception staff were friendly and helpful, directing us to scan a QR code for information on hotel facilities and the All-Inclusive package.

The Room & Balcony We were blown away by our Junior Suite—it was spotlessly clean with nice, modern decor. The highlight was a humongous sea-view balcony equipped with two sun loungers, a sofa, and a daybed. It was the biggest balcony I’ve ever seen with tons of space.

A note on noise: Our room overlooked the Veronica's strip, which had made us nervous after reading other reviews. While you can hear a slight thumping noise at night, the balcony doors do a fantastic job of blocking out sound, and it didn't keep any of us awake.

Pool & Facilities

  • Sunbeds: Finding sunbeds was never an issue at any time of day, even with the hotel at 98% capacity! At 1:00 PM on our first day, we easily found three together.

  • Pools & Staff: Great size pools with daily activities. The entertainment staff work tirelessly to keep everyone happy.

Food & Drinks

  • The Restaurant: There’s no greeter, so you just seat yourself (we always found a table easily). Waitstaff were quick to take drinks orders—contrary to other reviews, we were easily able to order second drinks during meals without any issues.

  • Food Variety: There was plenty of choice and everything was surprisingly delicious, even if some dishes didn't look high-end at first glance. They have two live cooking stations (one for meats like steak, lamb, and chicken; one for seafood like prawns, cod, and tuna).

  • For the Kids: Our kids stuck strictly to a "beige diet" (chips, spaghetti, chicken nuggets), but they were completely happy!

  • Pool Bar: This was the only slight letdown. Service was quite slow (20+ minute wait at times). The cocktails are pre-mixed and sweet (you won't get drunk on them, but they’re pleasant), and the wine at dinner was lovely.

Entertainment

  • Kids' Disco: A massive hit with our 5-year-old, who loved dancing and making friends.

  • Evening Shows: A bit hit-or-miss depending on the night, but the atmosphere was generally great and the kids really enjoyed themselves—which was what mattered most to us.

Location & Safety

  • Safety: We saw no issues with crime, pickpockets, or drugs. The only thing we noticed walking near Veronica's in the morning was a few discarded gas canisters/balloons from the night before.

  • Troya Beach: Lovely beach nearby with plenty of space. Top tip: Bring your shoes! The sand gets scorching hot on the walk down from the boardwalk. The local beach sellers leave you alone if you just politely say no straight away.

Final Verdict We had a fantastic week, loved every minute, and would absolutely recommend this hotel to families. Don't let the negative reviews scare you off!

Better then expexted

Before we arrived the reviews were not that good and we did consider changing hotels, but I am glad to say we didn't. On arrival the reception team were very friendly and helpful, and answered all my concerns regarding the reviews. We were led to believe the pool did not open until 11 am, but what we were told you could swim earlier, but there would be no lifeguard guard until 11 am. We had a family room with one of the larger balconies, which was great. The room was clean and tidy and had a fridge and a kettle, with tea and coffee supplied. We were all inclusive and after reading the reviews people were saying the food wasn't that good and repetitive, and the staff not very helpful, yes sometimes things were repetitive but they are cooking for a lot of people, but you didn't have to have the same every night, there was always a great choice of food to choose from. The staff were friendly and helpful in the restaurant, and always tried to sit us all together, as we were a party of 8, There are 3 family pools and 1 adult infinity pool which I didn't get to use, but was told it was very calm and peaceful up there. There was water aerobics and water polo every day in the pool and on the Friday before we left there was a foam pool party, which was a fantastic and fun end to the holiday, they also supplied a free cocktail for the adults and fruit juice for the kids. There was darts, and archery for the kids, by the pool every day. If there was one little complaint, it would be the queue for drinks or snacks, you could be stood in the queue for a while, The entertainment was ok, but not always the best. The area was lovely we were across the road from the beach and shops. We never had any problem with the noise outside, except when Spain won the world Cup and the sound and atmosphere was amazing, We would be very happy to return to this hotel.

Mixed Review

Mixed views on this hotel. The hotel itself is nice: the rooms are clean, the location is great, and overall the property feels modern. However, where this hotel lets itself down is the standard of service from some staff – which is why I’d say it’s no more than a 3-star hotel.

I’ll start with the positives. We were greeted by friendly, helpful front desk staff who made check-in quick and resolved every issue we had; we cannot fault them at all.

The entertainment team also did a great job, engaging well with guests at the pool and running enjoyable evening events.

The cleaning staff always had our room spotless and were always saying hello as you pass.

Where this hotel massively falls short is its restaurant and pool bar staff. I can’t overstate how reluctant some of them seem to be to serve you – don’t expect any warmth or genuine hospitality here.

They have no hesitation waiting until you’re nearly finished your meal to offer your first drink, or making you go to reception mid-meal because of an issue with your card. They’ll demand payment straight away, and make you feel like you’re the one at fault for something that isn’t your problem.

They just stand and watch you clear your own table, then watched you walk to their station to get a wipe to clean it, then watch you walk back to their station again to fetch cutlery – all while carrying on gossiping like you where the one doing something wrong. Don’t even think about taking cutlery from another table to eat your meal, as they’ll actively shake their heads in disgust… even though they’ll happily stand there watching you sit down without what you need. Want more than one drink with your evening meal? That’s a joke – I’d suggest pre-ordering your drink the meal service before.

For breakfast, they turn the lights out bang on half ten – no gentle warning, no slowly clearing food away, no half-closing the door to hint service is winding down. They just cut it off abruptly.

As for the pool bar staff – you’ll always come second to their own conversations.

I fully understand working in hospitality is tough in peak season, and keeping up high standards all shift can be exhausting. However a Hola or Hello with an upbeat tone is minimalistic but goes a long way. I fully understand everyone is there just for the money which I respect but it works both ways and when you pay a lot of money for a holiday it’s not nice. I feel like there seems to be absolutely no structure or management overseeing meal services – something that would not only improve the guest experience, but also make the staff’s jobs clearer and easier.

If there was just a little warmth and basic hospitality from these teams, this would be a really lovely place to stay. As it is, we were ready to leave just a couple of days in – which was such a shame. This is only my honest experience, and I can’t speak for anyone else’s.

Young children & Junior suite review

Location was pretty good, it seems to be the first hotel not on the Veronica’s strip. So when you go out of the hotel entrance, turn left you are on top of McDonald’s/kfc/clubs etc, but if you go right there are lots of beach front bars. There are plenty of little supermarkets within a couple of minutes of the hotel. As the hotel is next to the strip it does mean that at night there is a fair bit of noise, but we quite enjoyed listening to the music on the balcony. The balcony doors block out a lot of sound, so I can’t imagine it would affect anyone sleeping.

Our room, a ‘junior suite’, had one double bedroom, and a ‘lounge’ area which doubled as a second twin bedroom. The sofa pulled out to a single bed & a second single put up bed was also in there. It was very tight for space, so we put the sofa bed away every day. The main issue was that the room with the two singles had access to the balcony, which isn’t suitable for young children.

The balcony door had no inside lock, and was silent to open so personally I didn’t feel comfortable with my 3&5 year old sleeping in there unaccompanied, as they could have easily opened the door without us knowing. (My husband and I had a lovely romantic week on separate camp beds 😂)

The room was cleaned, and the towels were replaced. With the junior suite you also got access to the spa, with the infinity pool, however as we were away with our two children we didn’t use these facilities.

Half board - this included breakfast buffet (the usual, sausages, bacon, cold selection & pastries). They have a self serve drink station for both hot & cold drinks. With half board you can then have either lunch or dinner. Your room card is scanned so they know which one you’ve been to. The food is very classic of an all inclusive - quite samey, although always hot & replenished frequently. They do have theme nights, but these didn’t seem to be advertised very accurately. They cook meat & fish to order, although the queue for this is often long. I did enquire about how much it would be to upgrade to all inclusive, it was €38 per adult, per day. This could be done at any time during your stay as long as you had 3 full days remaining.

The restaurant was clean and there were lots of tables to accommodate all family sizes. Although there seemed to be a lot of staff & they were always busy, the tables were often not cleared in between courses, meaning the dirty plates piled up.

Evening entertainment was good, lots of live acts (two most evenings!), and a mini disco for the children. The acts varied in quality, but they were all reasonable. The man & woman in the entertainment team were really lovely. The best act we saw was a 70s rock band - The production was really good.

The pool was lovely, a nice size & often had additional activities like water polo, an inflatable slide etc. we never had to search for sun loungers there were always some available with lots of umbrellas for shade.
