Having stayed at many luxury hotels across the world, it’s rare for a resort to leave such a lasting impression. Sofitel Mauritius L’Impérial Resort & Spa didn’t just meet our expectations—it completely stole our hearts.

We stayed for five unforgettable nights, and from the very first moment, it felt less like checking into a hotel and more like coming home.

Our biggest surprise was Room 220 – the Opera Suite. We had originally booked it for just two nights, but thanks to the incredible generosity of the hotel, we were gifted a complimentary extension for the remaining three nights. It was a gesture we’ll never forget.

The Opera Suite is simply breathtaking. It beautifully blends timeless Mauritian charm with every modern comfort imaginable. Every corner reflects thoughtful design and attention to detail. My favourite moment each day was stepping onto the balcony, walking down the charming vintage staircase that leads almost directly to the beach, and soaking in those spectacular ocean views. It truly felt magical.

The location is another masterpiece. Situated on the beautiful Flic en Flac coastline, I can confidently say this is where I witnessed the most breathtaking sunsets in Mauritius. Every evening felt like nature was putting on a private show just for us.

The resort itself is immaculately maintained. Despite being an established property, it feels fresh, elegant and exceptionally well cared for. The white-canopy beach cabanas, lush gardens, peaceful atmosphere and crystal-clear lagoon create the perfect place to simply relax and disconnect.

We also loved the wide range of complimentary water activities, from snorkeling and boating to simply enjoying the crystal-clear lagoon. Everything was so well organised that all you really have to do is slow down, breathe, and enjoy paradise.

Now let’s talk about the food—absolutely outstanding.

Breakfast quickly became one of the highlights of our stay. As Indians travelling abroad, we often wonder if we’ll miss home food, but not here. Chef Raj prepared some of the most delicious Indian dishes every morning, and along with Didier, Steve ,Angel and Dhiraj, they pampered us throughout our stay with such warmth and genuine care that we genuinely forgot we were thousands of kilometres away from home.

One evening we experienced the Japanese Teppanyaki restaurant, and it turned into one of the most entertaining dinners we’ve ever had. Watching the chef combine incredible culinary skills with fire, knife tricks, humour and interactive cooking made it far more than a meal—it was an unforgettable experience.

Every evening ended beautifully with live music overlooking the ocean, creating the perfect atmosphere to unwind after a relaxing day by the beach.

What truly elevates this resort, however, is its people.

A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Antonio Ferreira, the General Manager, for creating a culture where genuine hospitality can be felt in every interaction.

A very special mention goes to Paulette, whose warmth and attention to detail made us feel incredibly special. Whether it was checking in on us, arranging thoughtful surprises, beautiful flowers, or little gifts in our room, she constantly found ways to make our stay even more memorable.

I also cannot thank Mr. Nawaz from the Concierge enough. If you’re staying here, he is your go-to person for absolutely everything in Mauritius. Whether it was restaurant recommendations, local advice, activities, or bookings that even seemed impossible to arrange online, his answer was always the same: “Sir, consider it done.” His positivity, efficiency, and willingness to help are truly exceptional.

A big thank you as well to Gaitree, Devegee, and Jaishika, whose kindness, smiles, and genuine hospitality added so much warmth to our stay.

In fact, every single staff member we met made us feel like family. That level of consistency is incredibly rare.

We arrived as guests, but we left with memories we’ll cherish forever.
