Fort Bazaar Hotel

We stayed at Fort Bazaar for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is situated in one of the more attractive and well-preserved parts of Galle Fort, while still being within easy walking distance of the lighthouse and the famous Pedlar Street. It is a great location for exploring the Fort on foot.

Our room was a good size, beautifully designed and very comfortable. The air conditioning worked like a breeze — something that is particularly important in Galle, where it can be extremely hot and humid!

One of the highlights of our stay was the complimentary guided walking tour at 7 am with Tharanga, who has an MPhil in Archaeology. The tour was excellent and gave us a fascinating insight into the history and architecture of Galle Fort. I would definitely recommend waking up early to join it.

The food deserves a special mention. The restaurant offers a modern fusion style of cuisine, with beautifully presented dishes that were also genuinely delicious. The food was served at a very good pace, allowing us to properly enjoy each course without feeling rushed. Breakfast was equally impressive.

Another lovely touch was the complimentary happy hour from 5–6 pm, with selected alcoholic beverages available free without limit. After exploring Galle in the heat, this was a very welcome way to relax.

The swimming pool is another real plus. Unlike many hotels in the Fort, it doesn't feel cramped, and it is a lovely place to cool down and unwind.

The interiors are beautiful — modern and stylish while still respecting the historic character of the Fort. Check-in was smooth and easy, and the service throughout our stay was excellent. Whenever we asked for something, the staff responded quickly and were always happy to help.

Overall, Fort Bazaar combines history, beautiful design, excellent food, attentive service and a great location exceptionally well. We had a wonderful two-night stay and would happily return.

We truly loved our one-night stay at Fort Bazaar. The location of the hotel is really good and while it is on one of the busier streets within the Fort, it truly is an oasis of quietness, especially in their backyard and pool area.

Every staff member was incredibly friendly and personal. There is nothing to complain about here.

The rooms are really spacious and modern, which is a nice distraction from the usually colonial-inspired luxury hotels in Sri Lanka. The free minibar was a nice touch, just like the really well-done bathroom. You will not have a proper view to the outside, so your room will stay rather dark, which is cozy, however.

The pool is small but very quiet and a good place to wind down, and the massage treatment was truly perfect. We really enjoyed our deep-tissue treatments and found them rather affordable.

One thing I would mention is that the inside common and eating areas are not air-conditioned and feel a bit too tight and warm to really spend time in. On top of that, the food was truly sufficient, but not on the level one would expect for the price of this place. The rather limited breakfast options felt not too well executed, to be honest. We cannot speak about the dinner here.

The hotel offers a wide array of very interesting looking experiences, which are all rather expensive, but do sound tasteful and interesting. We also liked that finally, a Sri Lankan hotel had local newspapers on display.

All in all, this might be the best modern stay in Galle Fort, if the price would not be so high. We stayed here on a special offer for around 200 USD per night, but seeing that it often costs well beyond the 300 USD price-mark, I am not sure if I would pay that again.
