Everything was amazing, the food the ambience, the service, just top-notch l.
Visited the Rice Boat restaurant with the family today. Was a great experience. It’s a seafood restaurant and cuisine is authentic Kerala style with a twist. Loved the ambience and decor. Great views of the Backwaters and the adjoining shoreline. Ahilan and the staff were amazing. Helped us from the beginning to end to ensure we tasted the best stuff available on the menu and made us feel extremely welcome. The food, of course was fantastic. All the seafood was fresh and extremely delicious. Would go back in a heartbeat!
Kerala was on our bucket list for a long time. Opportunity opened up when we decided overnight to visit Kochi and then, Munnar.
Without sounding arrogant and snobbish, I can say we are "Taj people". It is like coming home. Wherever.
Malabar was no different.
We arrived on 20th Aug after an enjoyable 44 hour train ride. However, the reception was very business-like. All ticks for efficiency. Zero for warmth. We felt it more so as typically Taj does a grand reception - makes one believe that we are so welcome and how happy they are to receive us. This was clearly lacking.
Having said so, this was more-than made up by the Frontdesk on our second arrival (returning from Munnar) with the tika, shell necklace and a dedicated dance recital for Mom and me. Super amused and overly embarrassed. Thank you, Angel and team!
We stayed in 606, a room with "what-a-view" and a balcony. Absolutely perfect! One can spend the whole day tracking movements in the waterways. Great, luxurious interiors. Nice large bathroom. The only opportunity was the luggage area. Why does Taj believe that we Indians travel light? Only one suitcase space?
In Housekeeping, I must call out Faizan for keep us comfortable and adhering to all our instructions. We had requested for a hard mattress and this too was accommodated. Thank you, Housekeeping Team!
On F&B, if not for anything else, one must stay at the Malabar only for its food. We, being demanding (generally) and Kerala food aficionados, kept making requests and each was accommodated. Including out-of-the buffet-menu Thalassery Biryani, Puttu and so on. Hats off to the warmth, knowledge and attentiveness of Venu, Anand, Surya, Prakash (in Rice Boat) and others. Thanks to the taste and the spread, we have returned home a tag-bit heavier!
Feedback: Dear Taj Malabar, if you are a staycation location, look into your breakfast timings. It is too synched to corporate travellers' timings. Shutting the breakfast buffet door sharp at 10:30 am, on the face of guests still eating, is decidedly rude.
Another pinprick was the insistence of the frontdesk to pay "something" after 2 nights stay for a 4 night booking. I am a Silver category member. You would want my loyalty, right? But you cannot exhibit trust? That too from a returning customer?
Other opportunities to make Malabar an even greater location are laundry and body lotion quality. Former is badly done. My innerwear returned multi-coloured from white. Shirts were not crisp. The body lotion has a problem: burns on sensitive areas.
Overall, I would love to keep returning to Malabar. For so many reasons, to make new memories!
Thank you, Taj Malabar!
We had such a lovely experience at Taj Malabar. The food was great, and a special mention to Ahilan and team who made our time there even more memorable. They were so warm, friendly, and caring, and made us feel completely at home.
Ahilan also took some beautiful pictures of us, which was such a thoughtful gesture and gave us some lovely memories to take back with us.
Thank you, Ahilan and team, for your genuine warmth and wonderful hospitality. You truly made our visit extra special!

We had a short birthday gathering on the evening of 5th August. I had booked for 7:30 pm, and well in advance Chef Ahilan called to check our convenience, food allergies, and any special requirements. From the beginning till the end, we had a wonderful, homely experience. We liked the food very much — truly authentic Kerala style, with the right ingredients and perfect taste. He also helped us have a comfortable cake‑cutting ceremony. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the food, ambience, and hospitality.. Though the food is slightly expensive, it's worth for the quality and service
