The Reef Coco Beach

My boyfriend and I had a very pleasant stay at The Reef Coco Beach and were genuinely happy with our experience.

From the beginning, the staff were professional, helpful and very friendly. It was clear that the employees work hard to make sure guests are happy and have a good experience. A special mention goes to the bartenders, who were fantastic — always friendly and happy to prepare or mix pretty much anything we asked for. 🍹

I would also like to give a special mention to the housekeeping team. Our room was beautifully cleaned every single day, with fresh towels, a fully replenished minibar and everything kept neat and tidy. The level of cleanliness was to a very good standard throughout our stay, and we really appreciated the hard work of the housekeeping staff. ⭐

Before our arrival, we contacted the hotel regarding the pool renovation. As a gesture of goodwill, they upgraded us to the Premium Plus package at no extra charge, which we really appreciated. They also offered several alternatives and complimentary options, including access to the pool and restaurants at a sister hotel.

In the end, we didn't need to use these options because, when we arrived, we realised that only a smaller section of the pool closer to the sea was under reconstruction. The larger part of the pool, including the pool bar, was fully operational. Since it wasn't high season and the hotel wasn't full, this was more than enough for us and we never felt that the renovation negatively affected our stay.

The food at the restaurant was tasty and varied, although the selection was perhaps a little smaller than in some larger resorts. Nevertheless, we always found something we enjoyed. We particularly liked having the pool snack bar, which was very convenient during the day.

And the beach was definitely one of our favourite things about the hotel! 🏖️ The beautiful beach is right in front of the hotel, with gorgeous turquoise, warm Caribbean water. During most of our stay, the conditions were perfect for swimming and there was practically no sargassum. The hotel regularly cleans the beach, which makes a big difference. We stayed from 15–22 September, so perhaps we were lucky with the conditions, but either way, we really enjoyed the sea every day. 🌊

We also booked several excursions — Chichén Itzá, Xcaret Park and diving. The excursion prices felt a little high to us, but having a diving centre directly inside the hotel was a huge advantage, and my boyfriend was very happy with the diving experience.

The evening entertainment was excellent as well. We didn't manage to attend every show because we were often out on excursions or simply exhausted after a full day at the beach and pool — sometimes we were already in bed by 9 pm! 😂 But we did experience part of the Mexican Night, including the opportunity to taste different types of tequila, and the Fire Night on the beach, which was especially impressive. 🔥

The hotel definitely has a family-friendly atmosphere, which is something to keep in mind depending on what kind of holiday you're looking for. Another big plus is the location — it's only a few minutes' walk from 5th Avenue, which is perfect for an evening stroll, shopping, restaurants and simply enjoying the atmosphere of Playa del Carmen.

Overall, we had a lovely stay and would happily return. The friendly and hardworking staff, excellent housekeeping, fantastic bartenders, beautiful beach, convenient location, good food and entertainment all contributed to a very enjoyable holiday.

The gentle man that checked me in late night was fantastic. He took the time to explain everything to me. During my stay the staff stole my headphones and some pesos. I confronted the staff and they said they would follow up. They didn’t. The lady checking me out was condescending and very rude. Would not recommend. There are better places to stay.
