Abces was the most gentil, welcoming, helpful person in the activities department. He got me many reservations even after not being able to attend. I recommend getting in touch with him upon your arrival and he’ll get everything straightened for you. Thank you Abces and thank you Ricardo! Much love to viva maya!
Terrible
Seaweed in the ocean.. smelled horrible. No pool.. was supposed to be completed.. was not.. Food is terrible.. even the restaurants.. buffet same day after day. Cartel taking over the beach and the beach chairs.. selling drugs just openly like it’s no big deal! Not a good experience at all! Don’t waste your money!

We stayed at Viva Maya by Wyndham from July 26 to August 9, 2026, returning to Canada August 10. The beach and ocean were major reasons for choosing this resort.
During multiple days of our stay, we experienced substantial sargassum accumulation, visibly affected shoreline and nearshore water, and a strong unpleasant odour. These conditions significantly reduced our enjoyment of the beachfront setting. We also documented flies in/near a dining area. Dated video evidence exists from August 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 9, 2026.
I understand that sargassum is natural and do not suggest the hotel caused it. In the post-travel response relayed through Sunwing, the hotel said it carried out daily beach cleaning and pest control, and that the beach and non-motorized water activities remained available. My concern is the actual experience during our stay, not a claim that every service was unavailable.
If the beach is central to your holiday, check recent conditions and ask specific questions before booking.

Bad food quality!!
I am extremely disappointed with my experience at this hotel.
Yesterday, my daighter ate tuna carpaccio at one of the hotel’s à la carte restaurants. Today, she became extremely sick, with severe vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. I strongly suspect that the food she ate may have caused her illness.
What is even more disappointing is that, despite being a guest at the hotel and becoming seriously ill during her stay, she was told that medical attention is not provided free of charge and that she would have to pay for it
This is completely unacceptable to me. She came expecting to enjoy her vacation, but instead she is extremely sick and feel that the hotel is not taking responsibility or providing adequate support to its guests.
I would absolutely NOT recommend this hotel to anyone, especially Canadian travelers. She was told that coming here would be better than going to Punta Cana, but based on her experience, I completely regret that decision.
We have traveled to Cuba many times, where we where always told to be careful with food and water, and I have never gotten sick there. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about this hotel.
Very disappointing experience. I expected much better from a hotel of this level.

Horrible
Pool is under renovations and the resort did not let us know that when we booked the trip. When we complained that we weren’t notified they didn’t care. Simply said too bad so sad. Don’t go there!!! And the Food is horrible
