Grand Palladium Colonial Resort and Spa

My wife and I have been Palladium Travel Club members for 9 years and have visited various resorts 7 times. We have been to the refernced resort 3 times, the latest, last week, to celebrate our 31st anniversary. The place is beautiful and offers all you could hope for in a beach resort. HOWEVER, there are a couple of very dangerous features that can, and, did in my case, put you in the hospital. There are several very "cute" swings spread across the resort, usually two side by side. They are meant for relaxing and enjoying the environment. Here's are the problems: The swings are set high off the ground; the have a wooden or composite seat that is prone to be slippery; they are supported by two ropes on each side; the depth from front to back is much greater than a normal swing and, without any additional "slope" controls, it is very easy, while pulling yourself into the swing, to put too much weight on the back side of the swing, increasing the likelihood that you will be forced to tip over and fall backwards resulting in a landing on your neck and back. That's what happened to me. I suffered a fractured spine, broken toes, bruised ribs and will be dealing with significant pain, medical bills, surgery, and long term rehabilitation for a long time. I'm a very active and fit adult male that spends about 4 to 5 days a week at a gym and tons of time working projects at home. So, not an invalid when we arrived, but they may be in my future. BOTTOM LINE: Do not attempt to mount the swings by the pool or beach bars or elsewhere around the resort. I was told by employees of the resort that this identical scenario has occurred many times and no alterations have been made to protect resort guests. The ambulance bill to the hospital was over a thousand dollarts. The ER informed us that x-rays and consultations would be at least $8500, not counting what it would cost for a bed or surgeries. We elected to tough it out and fly back home. We had little to no help from the resort staff other that to say they were sorry. We have truly enjoyed our stays at the various resorts and understand that things like this don't happen every day. But, how you respond when there is an obvious issues involving safety matters. I'm disappointed in the resort's commitment to its guests. I do want to give high praise to the live guards and EMTs that showed up quickly, stabilized my, got me to the very helpful and professional medical team on site, and arranged for the ambulance to get me to the hospital. All those fulks are FIRST CLASS and have my respect and appreciation. Be careful and you'll have an awesome vacation to this beautiful place.

I went to the Grand Palladium with a large group of family to celebrate my wife’s 40th birthday. We stayed at the family selection because we had small children with us. About half way through the trip my mother and I became very sick with chronic diarrhea. She almost needed to be hospitalized there. It completely ruined the trip. As soon as we landed back in the states my mother was brought to the ER and was positive for salmonella. The staff at the resort was great but the food was terrible and my mother took three weeks to feel better after returning home.
