Grand Hyatt Bali

This is an exceptional resort which in my view is almost (but not quite) perfect.

We stayed for 12 nights during September 2026 in a club level room booked on an all inclusive (AI) rate through Hyatt directly. The rate we booked was a special offer ‘Grand Escape’ package which was much better value than the standard hotel AI rate. I have noticed this offer runs a couple of times a year.

It is worth noting that a well known online ‘luxury’ travel agent offers very competitive AI rates but you can only book a club room when you book direct with the hotel or via Hyatt. This agent does offer something called a Veranda Club room but this is NOT a club room and you DO NOT get access to the hotel Grand Club Lounge or Club Pool. The Veranda lounge is a lounge which any hotel guest can access it is not exclusive.

This is actually our third visit but the last one was in 1998 so it has been a while ! Check in was perfect and we were upgraded to a club deluxe room close to the club pool.

The room was huge, more like a junior suite and in good condition, although a little dated. Plug sockets are really in the wrong places and only on one side of the bed which is something that needs rectifying during the next update. There is also a complete absence of mirrors in the bedroom and living room.

The room was absolutely spotless and housekeeping kept it spotless during our stay. We had a problem with a tap in the bathroom and this was fixed within 20 minutes of reporting the issue.

The Grand Club Lounge was lovely and the staff simply amazing. The evening food was decent but if I am honest it was not the most varied selection I have seen at other hotels, and you may struggle if your intention was to eat your dinner here. The drinks were very good with good quality wines (mostly Australian) and spirits and a large choice of cocktails. The barman Sanjaya would attempt to make anything not on the menu if he had the ingredients and I have to say the cocktails were among the best I have enjoyed in any club lounge anywhere. The club pool was just lovely. It was very quiet and never overly busy during our stay and we never struggled to get a bed. You also get the full pool menu food and drink service at the club pool. The team at the club pool are exceptional and work extremely hard. They are very proactive and regularly walk the pool asking if you would like food or drink and moving non club guests to the correct pool. They also enjoy a chat and the opportunity to practice their English. In my view it was well worth the extra paid on the room rate for a club room just to use this pool. We did not use any of the main pools as they were very busy, loud and a lot of families. There are two other pools which were much quieter the adult pool and the Balinese pool but neither serve food or drinks.

The grounds are beautiful and very well kept with a team of gardeners constantly maintaining them. The beach is lovely and is kept clean other than for the usual debris washed up with the tide which is quickly cleared away. Other Hyatts we have stayed in have provided a ‘collection bag’ in the room for guests to take with them on a beach walk to pick up plastic from the beach which is something the hotel could adopt here.

The food and drink on the AI package is of a very high standard. Unlike some hotels, there is no ‘special’ food menu for AI guests. There is a AI drinks menu but this is of a high standard with good quality Australian and Spanish wine and good quality spirits. It includes all of the popular cocktails. The beer is Bintang which I enjoyed.

I strongly recommend you book your restaurants prior to your holiday, indeed this is also recommended by the hotel as the restaurants are very busy. As we witnessed more than once, you will struggle if you just pitch up - family of 10 forget it! The booking process is really simple just go to the hotels website and look on the dining page and the link for booking is there. We used our reservation number in lieu of a room number and had no issues.

The menus are also shown on the hotel website which is really helpful. There are a couple of things not included on the AI rate and these are clearly marked.

Salsa Verde, Nanpu and the Water Court were all fantastic with very high quality food, plenty of choice and perfect service.

The drinks service in the bars was excellent with the staff being very proactive and recognising when guests needed a refill as well as clearing empty glasses and tables.

There were a couple of minor issues which were service related and were quickly addressed by Nico the guest relations expert after giving feedback so I will not repeat them. The hotel is very proactive in seeking feedback as well as acting on it.

Some areas which could be improved. I felt the Garden Cafe was the weakest out of the restaurants. The dishes were not replenished promptly and you often had to fish about looking for the contents.

The Western dishes were quite limited in choice and you would struggle if you did not eat Asian or Indian cuisine. The drinks service here was unacceptably slow (20 minutes) which was a real shame as the general service was exceptional and let down by the drinks service. The salad bar was very good however, as were the deserts.

The hotel really does need to have designated smoking areas outside as it is not acceptable to be seated next to guests either at a restaurant or a bar who start to smoke. I was honestly staggered when the guests at the next table lit cigarettes at the veranda bar and the staff informed us it was ok as it was outside.

The hotel also has no live music during the evening which is a significant weakness for a resort of this size. The Veranda Bar had virtually no atmosphere which was a shame as it is a lovely place to sit and drink cocktails after dinner.

The club pool needs more umbrellas as there are not enough and an over reliance on shade from the trees.

We had a really superb holiday and will definitely return here.

Grand Hyatt Nusa Dua is a beautiful hotel set in wonderful gardens. Rooms are nice and our ocean view room had a wonderful view of the beach and the pool that is not part of the Veranda Club deal. Everything is pretty much as you would expect for a 5 star resort. That said there are a couple of things people booking through Luxury Escapes should be aware of. The Veranda Club is not the Grand Club. Paying the extra for Veranda Club for us was a disappointing waste of money. That however may not be the case for everyone. Veranda club provides a nice space for people to spend their days with access to tea and coffee and cakes, evening snacks with drinks (this we did not see as we were on an all inclusive package.) Breakfast is also supplied in this area, it is a beautiful place but the arrangement of the smorgasbord is challenging. The Grand Club pool and lounge are not part of this deal. So if you have the all inclusive package the Veranda Club is simply a nice place to be, that offers in our opinion very little extra and certainly nothing that should attract the significant extra daily cost. Would we stay again? Absolutely but we would book with the hotel and have a Grand Club Room. Would we do the all inclusive again? No we wouldn’t, we probably had good value with this deal but feeling you have to get your worth from the deal stops you enjoying the multitude of other restaurant choices around you.
