Grand Mirage Resort and Thalasso Spa

After our first night at the Grand Mirage Bali, my overall impression is unfortunately quite mixed.

Let me start with the positives. The staff are welcoming and friendly, and the hotel is absolutely huge, giving you an immediate sense of security. The rooms are comfortable and equipped with everything you would expect.

However, there are already several issues that are difficult to overlook, particularly when it comes to cleanliness. We found several long hairs in the bathtub, as well as a used Band-Aid behind the bathroom door. Two bottles of water are provided because the tap water is not drinkable, but both bottles were literally impossible to open — the caps simply spun without unscrewing. So unless you want to pay for water from the minibar, you are essentially left without drinking water in your room.

The biggest problem, however, is the lack of soundproofing.

I could not fall asleep until 2:15 a.m. because the guests next door were watching television at an incredibly loud volume. It genuinely sounded as though the television was playing inside our own room. On top of that, people on the surrounding balconies were talking extremely loudly late into the night.

Needless to say, I woke up exhausted — not exactly the experience you hope for when you are on holiday.

The size of the resort is also a bit of a double-edged sword. It is undeniably impressive, but when you first enter, it feels more like walking into a huge shopping mall or an airport than a relaxing resort. There are people everywhere, and the atmosphere can feel crowded and rather impersonal.

We also tried the main restaurant located underneath the lobby, and unfortunately, this was another disappointing experience.

There was virtually no welcome or acknowledgment when we arrived. Despite the restaurant being almost empty, we were seated next to the swimming pool, where several families with children were being extremely loud. The cleanliness of the furniture was also concerning, with armrests visibly covered in dirt.

There were also a lot of flies, and perhaps the worst part was the fabric napkins, which were visibly stained. This is really not what I would expect from a hotel of this category.

The food also took a long time to arrive. When you are staying at a resort, particularly on vacation, you don’t expect to spend an unreasonable amount of time waiting for your meal.

We still have three nights remaining at the hotel, so I genuinely hope the experience improves considerably from here.

The Grand Mirage clearly has a lot of potential, and the property itself is impressive. However, for a resort of this size and standard, the issues with cleanliness, noise, restaurant service and overall attention to detail are difficult to ignore.

So far, unfortunately, the experience has been considerably below our expectations. I sincerely hope the next three nights will give us a reason to change this review.

Definitely not a 5 star we got a premier updated ocean view room and it did not start well. We realized we had to live out of our suitcase on the floor because no room to put your clothes just some hangars and 2 very small drawers. The beach is terrible and you can only go in the water at high tide so if you want to swim in the ocean this is not the place. We did not get the all inclusive thank god just breakfast included. If you’re looking for a quiet place this is not it it is a family place with lots of kids. On a better note the place is very clean and everyone is very helpful and willing to please

We had the most amazing time our room was amazing and the front desk staff moved us to a room we wanted Pande looked after us by the pool his service was exceptional we can’t wait to bring our family back to this hotel
