Swiss Belresort Watu Jimbar

We enjoyed our stay at Watujimbar, largely thanks to the fantastic staff. The service was excellent and everyone we met was genuinely friendly, helpful and welcoming. Unfortunately, our room seemed to have enjoyed rather more years in Bali than we have. The furniture and fittings were tired, and several floor tiles in our room were actually loose. The ground-floor rooms towards the back are also rather gloomy, with very little natural light. A few more power points would be welcome too, especially in these days of phones, tablets and assorted electronic travel companions all demanding dinner at the same time. The hotel itself is big and busy and runs like a well-oiled tourist factory. If you are looking for a small, peaceful and intimate Balinese hideaway, this probably isn’t it. The location in Sanur is very convenient, though, and the hotel generally functions efficiently. Wonderful people and excellent service, but the rooms (at least the one we stayed) could certainly use some of the same care and attention the staff give their guests.

I stayed as part of a group of ladies all in separate rooms across the 5th floor of this hotel. Rooms were nice with outlook over the swimming pool and comfortable king size beds. The air conditioning worked well in all rooms and amenities provided included the basics in-the bathroom and fridge, safe in room. An ironing board, iron and a clothes drying rack was available from house keeping. Room cleaning staff were always quick and efficient. Drinking water is available from huge water chill stations located near lifts on all floors and jugs provided in rooms.

Breakfast was a good selection of western and Indonesian foods including rice, curries, noodles, bacon, egg station, pancake and waffle station, fresh fruit and bakery section. You won’t go hungry.

The pool is a challenge with limited sun loungers. Some lounges are located in the pool which made getting in and around the pool difficult. The pool floor surface was slippery in spots and had rubbish floating in it. Some of the decking around the pool also was loose and needing repaired.

There is a free shuttle offered by the hotel concierge staff to the Icon shopping centre. Good central location in Sanur.

We were extremely disappointed with how the hotel handled a serious accident involving my 76 year old aunt, whose finger was severely crushed by a hotel room door and required surgery.

We had to repeatedly insist that the hotel pursue the matter through their insurance. The GM eventually met with us only after we repeatedly requested and begged for a meeting.

We strongly believe the hotel’s door mechanism was at fault and that the hotel was aware of the issue. Throughout our stay, we repeatedly heard doors slamming heavily, particularly in the wind. The doors closed very quickly, and our own room had the same issue. This raised serious concerns about the safety and condition of the hotel’s door mechanisms.

The hotel eventually waived two nights for our two rooms as a goodwill gesture, but this was not offered initially and was not compensation for my aunt’s injury. About a week later, after we had already left Bali, the hotel informed us that the insurance claim had been denied and that they were unable to provide any compensation.

We were left feeling completely at a loss.My aunt has had to endure surgery and ongoing medical treatment, while the hotel was ultimately able to avoid any financial responsibility.

We appreciate the staff who assisted us during the emergency, but we are deeply disappointed by the management’s handling of the incident and the outcome for our family.
