- Alila Ubud

Set in a secluded hillside position above the Ayung River and surrounded by lush verdant vegetation, the beautiful Alila Ubud boutique hotel is situated in the traditional hill village of Payangan in central Bali. Contemporary architecture meets traditional Balinese style, as guests may admire Indonesian art in the hotel's art gallery or in the sculpture garden. An emerald infinity pool seems to be floating above the valley and guests may sample authentic Balinese cuisine in the hotel's restaurant. A truly unique travel experience.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We stayed at Alila Ubud for three nights as a family of three while celebrating my husband's 50th birthday. The hotel and its location were recommended as part of our Bali holiday, which we booked through Destinology, and it's safe to say that both exceeded our expectations. Being surrounded by rainforest, we expected to encounter plenty of wildlife and insects. Apart from the monkeys around the area & the squirrels—which is only natural, as you're in their habitat—we hardly saw any wildlife at all. In fact, we didn't notice a single insect, either in our villa or around the resort. The entire property is exceptionally clean and beautifully maintained. We stayed in the Terrace Tree Villa (Room 502), and it was absolutely stunning. The villa was spacious, spotless, bright, and beautifully designed. If your budget allows, I would highly recommend booking one of the villas—you won't regret it. Our villa also felt more secluded and enclosed, which helped keep any unwanted insects outside. The staff were incredibly warm, welcoming, and attentive, always going out of their way to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. One of the highlights of our trip was the cycling tour with Patrik. We visited a local market, explored the beautiful rice terraces, and finished the tour with authentic Balinese coffee at Patrik's home. It was such a wonderful experience to meet local people and gain a glimpse into everyday life in the area. We dined at both of the resort's restaurants, and every meal was delicious. The quality of the food consistently impressed us throughout our stay. For most of our visit, we chose to relax at the resort, which was exactly what we were looking for. The peaceful surroundings, exceptional service, and stunning setting made it the perfect place to unwind. Alila Ubud is truly a special place, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone visiting Bali. It was a memorable stay that exceeded all of our expectations.
A beautiful property nestled in the heart of the jungle. The service is incredibly kind, helpful, and top-notch. Everyone goes out of their way to ensure your stay is comfortable and beautiful. The peace and quiet there truly allows you to relax. And the monkeys are an added attraction. Thank you, and we will definitely recommend it.
The hotels amenities, service and staff are very lovely and the Balinese cooking class with Suasti is a must do!
A beautiful resort set in a lush, peaceful location outside of Ubud. The monkeys were very cheeky, but the resort, staff and facilities were exceptional. A special mention for the wonderful food and spa treatments. Friends and I stayed for a week, which may be a little too long for those people looking for more to do, but we loved it. The town of Ubud isn't close enough to walk into - you'll need to rely on the complementary shuttle or other transport. For a unique stay in a gorgeous location, I would definitely recommend.
We absolutely loved this hotel! Would thoroughly recommend. The room was beautiful with a fantastic view over the valley. The staff were so very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Free activities every morning which we enjoyed. A free evening meal which was absolutely delicious. Only downside is alcohol is expensive.
