Malaysia Travel Advice

Entry requirements differ by country. The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) issues country specific travel advice including Health, Visa and Vaccination requirements.

We recommend that you check this page regularly and the FCDO advice here https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/malaysia

Entry requirements

General For a UK citizen travelling to Malaysia, passport and visa requirements are enforced by Malaysia authorities. Unsure travellers should contact the UK embassy, high commission or consulate in Malaysia

Passport validity Passports should be valid for 6 months from the date of arrival in Malaysia. Any damaged or missing passport pages could lead to refusal of entry and detainment.

Visa requirements

General UK nationals do not need a visa for visits to Malaysia up to 90 days. Visas for longer stays or non-tourist purposes should be obtained from the nearest Malaysian diplomatic mission before travelling.

Declaration form You must fill in the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) to enter Malaysia. You should complete this within 3 days prior to your arrival. The forms need to be filled in, and the registration email/letter should be printed for presentation at the customs gate. See the Malaysian Immigration website for further information, including exemption details.

Illegal immigration penalties Please keep within your visa timeframe. Overstaying or violation of visa terms can lead to penalties such as fines, detainment, deportation to UK and even blacklisting. The individual bears flight costs upon deportation. Conditions in prisons and immigration detention facilities can be poor with limited healthcare services.

COVID-19 rules

There are no COVID-19 vaccination requirements for travellers entering Malaysia

Customs and prohibited items

Before travelling, check the Malaysian Customs Service website for information on restricted or prohibited items. A maximum of US $10,000 in Malaysian Ringgit can be imported or exported without prior approval. Import or exports involving amounts more than US$ 10,000 must be declared. Penalties for non-compliance include a fine of up to RM 1 million and up to 3 years’ imprisonment.

Other regulations and advices

Drug Abuse Visitors might be subject to a urine test if suspected of drug use prior to visit. The penalties for any drug offence including possession of drugs and presence of drugs in bloodstream are severe. Visit Local laws and customs for more information

Yellow Fever Travellers should visit the TravelHealthPro website to determine if a yellow fever certificate is needed

Dual Nationality Malaysia doesn’t recognise dual nationality. Any individual found holding a Malaysian passport and another of a different nationality can be refused entry. It is advisable for dual nationals (not including Malaysian) to use the same passport when entering and exiting.

Irish Passport Holders

Please note that this information is for British Passport holders only. If you hold an Irish passport then please visit the Department of Foreign Affairs for travel advice
