Entry to Uruguay
Visitors aged 18 and over must have medical cover in Uruguay or travel insurance. It is recommended that this insurance covers any expenses due to coronavirus related illness. More information is available from the Uruguayan Ministry of Health (Spanish only).
Entry requirements for children
Children aged 17 and under residing in Uruguay need written permission ('Permiso de Menor') from non-accompanying parents to leave the country. Non-resident children of the same age who have been in Uruguay for a year or more are treated similarly. You can apply for this permission here (Platform is in Spanish).
Your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay. There's no requirement for any additional validity beyond this.
General British passport holders don't need a visa for visits of up to 90 days. For information on extensions or residency, visit Dirección Nacional de Migración (Spanish).
Strict customs controls are in place that prohibit visitors from importing animal and dairy products, as well as fruits and vegetables. Expect your baggage to be x-rayed and possibly checked upon arrival.
Visitors aged 18 and over must demonstrate that their insurance can cover any coronavirus-related medical expenses. In case of symptoms, the Uruguayan authorities ask you to request home health care and not visit health centres or hospitals. Home visit or drive-through testing services are available and generally return results within 24-72 hours. These tests are at the visitor's expense unless ordered by a health professional. A list of providers is Biofast, Clinica Preventiva, At gen, Genodiagnosis. Fast tests are available at most pharmacies. Further information can be found on the Uruguayan Ministry of Health's site.
